One way Rafa Benitez can raise funds to buy new players in the upcoming January transfer window is by selling some players we already have, and the Chronicle is reporting six players will be made available.
One of those is Freddie Woodman, our young goalkeeper who will be will be available to go out on loan for the rest of the season to get much-needed first team playing time.
The other five are goalkeeper Karl Darlow, midfielder Jack Colback, defender Chancel Mbemba, striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and striker Dwight Gayle.
There’s not too much of a shock with those players.
Chancel Mbemba – a good and versatile player – why sell him?
We like Chancel Mbemba a lot and the fact he is so versatile would seem to make him a good squad player at Newcastle – but Rafa wants to sell him.
Mitrovic and Mbemba for some reason don’t fit into Rafa’s plans at Newcastle and it’s been clear since Rafa arrived at the club early last year that he doesn’t rate either of the two former Anderlecht players.
Jack Colback is out in the cold and the sooner he leaves Newcastle the better for everybody concerned and it could be possible to get £5M for Jack to a Championship club.
But if Rafa wants to sell Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic he needs to bring in two new strikers first – so hopefully, we have those lined up to buy in January?
If Rafa wants to sell Karl Darlow, who got a recall to the side only last night at West Brom, and also send Freddie Woodman on loan then he will need to bring in two new goalkeepers.
That could be difficult.
So as far as goalkeepers and strikers are concerned – we need to have new players lined up to bring in before we can sell the players we have.
That could turn out to be very difficult in a short four weeks of transfer activity.
What do you think?
