3 Changes – Darlow, Manquillo, Diame, Perez, And Gayle All Start At Chelsea – Joselu Rested

Newcastle manager has just announced his team to play at Chelsea in the early kick-off game this afternoon.

Shelvey, Hayden, and Yedlin are all left out of the side but we are surprised to see Diame starting for Hayden in central midfield.

We thought Rafa might rest Yedlin after he made quite a few defensive mistakes in the last couple of games and in comes Javier Manquillo at right back.

Mbemba rightly keeps his place at left-back and that looks like 3 changes from Tuesday night with Karl Darlow keeping his place in goal.

Dwight Gayle – gets a start at Chelsea

This is going to be a very tough game for us but we have to think about taking something out of every single game since the heavy Christmas schedule of games is coming up.

By the time we have played at Stoke City on January 1st hopefully, we will still be in mid-table.

Three in five fans think we will lose this game.

Looks like Benitez is hoping to keep things tight and use pace for the counter-attack. Hazard can give the ball away cheaply at times, Perez and Gayle have the pace to break. Then we have game changers on the bench should there be a stalemate at 60 minutes.

    Possibly toon taff.

This selection does make Rafa look like he thinks we have no chance lol.

Saving players for easier games. But that’s why you have a squad! Let’s hope they do us proud.

That’s quite a miserable team.. Our squad on paper is surely the weakest in this division. Let’s pray for a miracle.

Terrible side that. Manquillo is god awful and much worse defensively the Yedlin and is poor going forward. Diame well don’t need to go into much detail as every fan will agree. Perez and Gayle are not going to hold anything and we are going to be under pressure and have to play long ball for periods of time in the game. When 12:30 comes I will support them to the hilt but not sure what Rafa is thinking!!

Good call on Yedlin. The side couldn’t carry on leaking goals in that way. You cannot keep blaming, Ritchie, Lejeune, Clark, Hayden, Elliot, the wrath of God for Yedlin’s misgivings anymore

Newcastle United: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, Florian Lejeune, Ciaran Clark, Chancel Mbemba, Matt Ritchie, Mikel Merino, Mohamed Diamé, Jacob Murphy, Ayoze Pérez, Dwight Gayle.

Substitutes: Rob Elliot, DeAndre Yedlin, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Rolando Aarons, Aleksandar Mitrovi?, Joselu.

Diame, oh dear, hope it’s the footballer one and not his evil non footballing lazy twin, it’s going to be a long afternoon.

    Having said that.

No Sideshow Bob for them today so it’ll be marginally less scary to watch but Perez and Gayle will exploit that do HWTL

5 out of 13 conceded either side of half time – seem to lack concentration in this period

Rafa obviously thinks the only way to get Gayle into the action is to inject some pace in the centre but dear oh dear all we have is diame. I expect if this goes awry (as it probably will tbf) we will see the same subs in Mitro and shelvey and revert to the Hollywood launch tactic.

I suppose you can’t say Rafa is afraid to mix it up !

Ancient go over the goals we have conceded recently and tell me which ones specifically were Yedlins fault. There is not many I can tell you that. He is one of our best attacking outlets also. I could understand if someone like Dummett was in his place as at least he is defensively sound yet manquillo is utter garbage both ways and much worse than Yedlin both ways.
