Rafa’s BBC Interview – Bemoans More Defensive Mistakes – Just One Point In Last 6 Games

Rafa seemed disappointed after the game at Stamford Bridge today when we thought that three clear mistakes in Newcastle’s  defense led to Chelsea’s three goals and that’s after we had taken the lead with another goal from Dwight Gayle.

The worrying thing is that it is now happening in almost every game now where we gift teams a goal or goals.

Since we have trouble scoring goals ourselves – we have scored only 14 goals in 15 games – that makes it difficult for us to pick up points.

We have picked up only one point from the last 6 games.

Here’s what a disappointed Rafa had to say after the game today and yes – he doesn’t look too happy before the video plays.

!?1The thing is the premiership has changed a lot no one can have a perfect defense and teams are figuring out ways to force errors and break teams down

I feel not enough is being done by our team to break teams down or force mistakes consistently !!

We were hounding Chelsea until we scored the goal and then we just allowed them to play !?!? WHY?!!?

Yes, but only when we attacked. Which we barely did.

    It was basically a 5-4-1.

I would hate to think that this take over happens and Rafa is given Millions to spend and he buys the type of player he has bought up to now, regardless of the price of them i don’t see any positives from Murphy Lejeune today one bottled a header and the other runs down blind allies.
Diame made no sense as a buy in the championship never mind the premiership.
the only 3 i like have been clark Ritchie Merino. the rest are poor imo

I am not blinded by Rafa and I honestly believe he is the best manager we could hope for at this time.

Part of me thinks he has one eye on the takeover….Giving Ash a slight push out the door.

I understand why he won’t play Mitro.. .1 can’t trust him 2 he is worth the most to us if we need to generate funds (no takeover by January) so won’t want him injured. Just an opinion.

I would like to see what type of player he can attract given the money.

Failing that I would Love it…KK came back !

Other than KK I am happy with Rafa.

Best time of my life when KK was manager and I still think he could do it again if backed. But that’s just my opinion.

    Here comes the wrath ……

    Lee at the party
Spot on mate score one then out game plan seams to change – hounded chased Chelsea played football higher up the pitch score and seem to sit back . Start going sideways backwards conceding possession and space.

Sadly the premiership has moved on since Rafa was last managed

Toonluvva there is no doubt unless both a good quality striker and no10 is brought in then we will be battling in the bottom 6. Think that’s obvious for most to see.

Painful to see Everton move above us after their start to the season but other teams results over the last few weeks could have been so much worse and those teams don’t have the posssibility of funds to compete with us in January. But so much will depend on Ashley’s departure and the right sort of combative goal scoring players been brought in courtesy hopefully of Amanda

Jane – could you soften the tone of your yellow Avatar , it’s way to bright for the current situation. Perhaps you could change colours depending on our league position. Never want to see red. Green for go would be good and of course black and white stripes for a calming tonal effect.

hayden is all but a peen player, he came from a top top team. but i don’t think he is good enough to be that box to box player
Gayle was injured half of last season and is not strong enough for the prem, but he is a good finisher, not many teams can carry just a good finisher, i don’t see him running channels or or holding the ball up.
    Diame is just pants
Lejeune is a tricky one, tricky time to come into the team but today he bottled it.
yedlin, great going forward but poor defending
    manquillio just poor
merino has loads of potential and could be a top top player
    lazar who?
    Gamez Who
    Ritchie good player
Atsu, could be good but hides for long periods in games.
murphy is finding his feet, but it was a lot of money for someone who is poor at making decisions, doesn’t seem to know when to pass
Joselu, what can i say , i thought it was a good signing, but wow i was wrong, he seems a donkey.

mclaren had 25M wijnaldum, 30M sissoko, 25M Townsend and some others like Janmatt.

a half fit merino apart, what would our top player whoever that is be valued at now?

yes we bitched and moaned about pardew, carver, mclaren etc, but pardew had tiote, cabaye, ba, cisse, ben arfa etc in their prime.

who the f— has rafa got? Yes there are times when I get frustrated as much as the next fan, but if you can’t see there are mitigating circumstances for Rafa you clearly don’t understand football.

    Just watched the game…

Ritchie is probably the worst LB ive ever seen play for newcastle. Just horrible. Surely Manquillo/yedlin is the better option.

Having Shelvey/Ritchie in the lineup causes problems with possession, because theyre pathological direct players.

Merino is the player who Shelvey thinks he is. The difference between the two is that Merino allows other players into the game & Shelvey has this need to be the focal point of everything. Also, Merino can defend.

Newcaslte desperately need two competent cm’s in the transfer window. Diame/Hayden are just not good enough.

Cabaye, Ba, Cisse, Tiote and Ben Arfa cost less than £20m combined. Rafa spunked that on Joselu, Murphy and Manquillo when we already had better here.

Yes the market was different then, but there’s always bargains to be had. Stop trying to alleviate it him of any responsibility.

    Just a bit of perspective

rafa only lost 3 games at RM and the team scored a lot including a record 10-2 win and Rafa enjoyed a near 70% win ratio. Rafa was basically sacked because they lost a home game to Barca (messi, Neymar and Suarez et al,) which in Spain is a big no-no. Let’s not let the facts get in the way though. Somehow can’t imagine Fat Sham, Pulis, Carver, McLaren, Pulis, Moyes etc been asked to manage the biggest club in the world.

Why is it taking so long for fans to understand our predicament??
No matter if Mitro played or Shelvey got a full 90 minutes we would have lost end of.
And this season was mapped out as early as the summer through lack of Investment and Ashley hiding in the shadows counting his pretty pennies p@ssing off yet another manager.
I genuinely fear for Nufc if Ashley was to stay because there is only one direction we will head under his tenure.
We are where we are because we’ve got what we’ve got

I’m hoping Rafa will be the man to spend wisely, attract big players quickly and get us in a good position quickly after the takeover.

However under this ownership Rafa is no better than Pulis, Allardyce, Hughton and co. We play extremely defensive boring football and are still teetering around the relegation zone.

This Mitrovic stuff is beyond a joke. Just listened to his interview again this morning, I hate to say it but I hope Mitro gets a move in Jan. It’s far better for him. Can see him doing great things in the World Cup.

Aye, still doesn’t alleviate Rafa of buying 3 players that haven’t improved the squad for £20m and playing 2 of them just about every match regardless of performance and the most expensive – lacking in confidence – being thrown in once the team is struggling.

He’s managed a lot poorly this season. As I also said earlier, his judgement on CBs isn’t great either. He started the season with Lejeune and Clark and it was a blessing in disguise that Lejeune got injured and allowed Lascelles to reassert himself.

Rafa’s job is to optimise what we’ve got, resources and players – he isn’t doing that currently.

Rafa does not seem to like a player that is larger than life/loved by the fans more than him
ie: Ronaldo, Gerard and now Mitrovich.

Man Utd second goal came from Martial chasing down Musapha

We did that until we scored then sat back and let them carry the ball out

Richie was played completely out of position today and we paid the price twice and it could have been a lot worse. They tore our left side apart. Diame was appalling and every time he got the ball I was waiting for him to give it away and for them to be straight on goal – which happened a few times. To be fair though, Merino dropped him in it a couple of times but overall would still prefer Hayden to Diame.
Overall I am not too negative about the situation. It will improve and I do think we will get some additions in Jan – if nothing else when Mitrovic goes which he must do. I do not know what is happening on the training ground but he’s on the wrong side of Rafa and it can’t be for a footballing reason given the terrible performances of Joselu and the ineffectiveness of Perez.
Success for me this season is simply survival and I still think we will.
