Fans Trying To Stay Positive During Difficult Period – Supporting Rafa

We were hoping for a “normal” season in that we would not be fighting relegation and be around mid-table most of the season.

That’s a lot different to most seasons under current owner Mike Ashley who has never invested enough money in the side to make Newcastle into a really good side.

We were unlucky to get an English  Billionaire who didn’t want to invest in the club he bought.

When he did invest and we finished 5th in the league in 2012 he refused to improve the team that summer and lo and behold we were fighting relegation the next season as we struggled with the extra Europa League games.

Ashley cannot seem to understand that he needs to keep spending money (investing) to keep the team good and competitive.

But Ashley seems a lost cause in that he will never be a good owner of any football club.

If he eventually goes to Rangers FC – the best of luck to their fans.

His personality seems too stubborn to be a successful owner as he has admitted he knows very little about football.

But enough of Mike Ashley – this article is supposed to be positive.

In this difficult time for Newcastle, fans are trying to stay upbeat and positive and discussing things like players who could help us in January.

The vast majority also support our manager in these difficult times.

We are relying on the skills an experience of Mr. Rafa Benitez to keep us in the Premier League this season.

And the FA Cup draw is tonight – let’s hope we can get a decent draw.

Remember McLaren bought 2 quality players in the January, Shelvey & Townsend but still not enough to avoid the drop.
Hope Rafa can get the funds to buy a min of 3 Premier League quality players.
Also move on some of the deadwood.

    Hibbit,

Yes, I hadn’t thought about that.

There must be players like Mitrovich who are languishing in the reserves or on the bench because of some unknown transgression between themselves and their managers.

For Mitrovich he should have no worries as he is a consistent scorer for his national team and if he continues his track record at international level will bump up his price and much to the puzzlement of other managers as to why he is never select at Newcastle.

Looks like Allardyce wants to keep Ross Barkley at Everton. Probably more about his own and Everton’s self preservation in not allowing a rival team to gain advantage by signing him. Doubt the player will see it that way but expect Barkley back in the Everton team at a match near Goodison soon.

For me if you look at the start of him not being played it was mitro missing that got rafa upset BUT the one thing that stood out was at the end of a match on sky rafa was face to face with mitro explaining something to him and mitro rolled his eyes petulantly and looked away. I think mitro doesn’t listen to rafa. As a manager how can you manage someone who doesmt listen. Look what happened to colback for allegedly refusing to play with the u23’s when asked to step in by rafa. No leader can have descent in the camp. Not saying I’m right but it looks that way to me. For rafa’s system to work everyone have to be part of the unit.

@OneAlanShearer: Just to play devils advocate for a moment – I don’t remember the game you’re referring to, but I do remember Mitro demanding to be let back on the pitch after being knocked clean out against Sunderland.

I agree with caution around dissent, but you can’t focus on one negative instance and disregard the more positive ones.

Oddly, he always seems to have poor games where he starts. The lad seems to be a lot more effective as an impact sub. I just wish he’d be brought on earlier so those around him have some energy to move into the spaces he creates with his hold up play.

Thump I don’t disagree I think it must be bigger than one event I just meant that’s perhaps a glimpse of what might be the cause of it IF it’s a consistent issue.

I do totally agree on him being better as an impact sub as it seems to drive him to play better. I also agree about others getting opportunities from that. I think we should be trying 352 as we can’t rely on our full backs anyway and I think yedlin I’d better as a wing back with his pace anyway.

However I’m hopeful that dummet returning in a 4231 will make is harder to break down with lascelles organising and motivating the team as well. I want to see Murphy and atsu as our wide players with Ritchie played at number 10. He has to be better than Perez surely

Re your theory about MA taking the Prem money and doing one.
    Perhaps some logic in it.
It’s been rightly pointed out that a relegated team would not be worth 200 odd million.
    Wolves were sold for 45.
    So 125 Prem money and 45 that’s still 170.

Would he take that. Well if there are no buyers and he really wants out, may be he might.
He and Ellis Short now realise they are not rich enough to compete.
Even if they do have 1 or 2 billion.

The blog has reached that part in the cycle where those who will not have a bad word said about Rafa are back in the majority.
They have a go at supporters for having a go at Rafa or saying anything critical.
All I would say is the comments on here after a game are typical of what I hear at the match.
At half time against Watford an older supporter near mean went into a rant. He’s sat there since 92 and is normally very placid.
What was the gist of his comments. He was saying that was no better than Carver, Pardew or SM. Any other manager would get pelters for that.

I don’t know how it is paid.
I do know that if he wanted to MA could take the lot and pay off the 100 plus million he is owed by the club.
It was reported the other day the average player wage is 1.7 million per year.
So, whats that a wage bill of 45-50 million.
Revenues from TV etc gonna be 145 million.
What’s he got planned for the surplus if he is not going to spend it on players.

Jib Before you start on google those figures are straight off the top of my head, but I think they do make the point.

SM spent 12 mill on Mitro and Mbemba was 7 or 8.
Shelvey and Townsend bought when it was too late. Both were not fully fit or playing regularly for their teams. Also had Wini at 12-14 mill, but not massive money spent.

I said. Ritchie against Moses. A player with pace and power was stupid. Not only was it stupid but he watched it for 90 minutes and did nowt about it.
Now tell me what is incorrect about that.

I said. leguene. Too slow and a liability. Bought by Rafa for 9 million. He will be on the scrap heap by June. Stuck on the wage bill like Lazaar and Sels.
In what respect do you disagree.

Those not around yesterday were lucky. The blog featured a guy online from a tag wrestling team.
His timing was poor and his appearance hindered rather than helped team members. A complete disaster for him and the team. Glum online thereafter and a team left wondering what his MO was!
If it was cricket and not tag wrestling he wouldn’t have troubled the scorer.

Optimistic Panda @18 – I agree with you about the squad – although you could argue that quite a few have been Rafa buys but he has been severely restricted by finances.
Purely hypothetical I know but I wonder how much better a manager like Mourinho or Guardiola could do with this squad – maybe Mourhino could have squeezed out another point or two but I don’t think much better!

Its a joke slating Rafa when our “star players” are a winger who gets credit for his hard work and a young lad who’s barley played a dozen games in the Premier league.

The squad is shite! Everyone is entitled to there opinion on players but it’s not like we have Rio Ferdinand and Alan Shearer on the bench whilst playing Joselu and Clark.

No one, but at least Pardew had tiote, cabaye, cisse, ba, ben arfa etc in their prime and maclaren had wijnaldum, sissoko, townsend, janmatt and a few others. who does rafa have, other than the potential of a half fit merino and an injured captain in Lascelles?

Sissoko – Didnt want to be here. Boosted his value to 30 million at the Euros. Was poor 2 games out of 3 for us.
Cisse – The casino man. Left for 1.5 million. Contributed little to SM.
Debuchy – Left in 2014. Was replaced by Janmaat. Where is he now. Another none tryer.
Toite – God bless him. Was finnished by the time SM came and we had to give him away.

    My one comment for today.

Ronaldo rolls his eyes for everything, but would a coach drop him for decent? Obertan refused to come on and play one match, was he dropped, no, Mitro might have rolled his eyes and im sure everyone reading this might have rolled there eyes at there boss, but his treatment is disgraceful. if it is for decent, leave him out of the squad, but by putting him on the bench and not using him is disrespectful to him and the fans esp when you have a guy on the pitch pretending to be a footballer at the moment, and Gayle was injured, those of you who are defending Rafa are also the ones asking for Mitro to play becasue of joselu’s form, and in my opinion it is having a massive affect on team moral too, players dont seem to have confidence in Joselu.

and for those who say it was chelsea, its not just the chelsea game, we are currently bottom of the form guide for last 6, and many hold Lascelles as the key, we have scored 4 goals and conceded 14, so that one player is going to “knit” the team together as some say..

Rafa can be the bigger man in all of this, and use his assets until his first opportunity to change them. thats what i expect from a world class manager

To be fair on that Moses – Ritchie dual, just a clear indication we didn’t have the players to cope with Chelsea’s set up. I think ideally Rafa would have matched them up but we lack a left wing back so that’s not an option, Ritchie is our hardest working wide man, just didn’t have the pace to keep up with the overlaps. Rafas doing the best with what he’s got in my opinion, Dummett and Atsu back soon, lascelles maybe the week after will see us stronger by a lot

Disappointed to see people writing off Lejeune..looked decent alongside Lascelles and its early days. For me Clark is getting an easy ride at the moment and isn’t helping Lejeune. His positioning, marking at corners, picking up runners has been unbelievably bad when you watch the whole games hes got quite lucky in the fact a lot of his mistakes have gone unpunished so haven’t been highlighted as much. We are definitely missing Lascelles communication and organisation.

Sels only cost 5m as a Belgian international keeper, in comparison Pickford and Ederson cost 30m.. Benitez had to take risks as 5m and 30k a week doesn’t get you a proven top keeper…
Rafa has had nearly no backing in the summer to put together a premier league team and is having to work with what we have.
Just who do you think is going to come in if Rafa goes? It’ll be Tony Pulis! that really what you want to watch?

Well, other then Ritchie what choice did he have? Haidara? Who hasn’t featured for years. Come off of it hahahha.

Mbemba, took the position of RCB because he was our only other CB available.

Manquillo took RWB because Yedlin was saved for the next game, or just dropped.

Because of the thread bare squad we have Rafa’s options are limited. All the blame should point to one man yet fans are just deluded half the time.

Let’s blame the man who has shit tools to work with, not the man who gave the aforementioned shit.

Said before, really Rafa is working with a starting 11 that has probably 8 or 9 players in it that just wouldn’t get into other EPL 11’s. Ritchie is one of our better players and he couldn’t get into Bournemouths (a lower half PL team) starting 11.
Ashley blocked us signing Abraham early and the hesitation cost the deal and he blocked us signing Caballero and by some chance we now have a problem in the striker and goal keeping areas.
We’ve had no fit left back..
We just don’t have a squad to deal with injuries or suspensions so losing Merino for those few games, Shelvey for 3 games to suspension, Lascelles etc just decimates us because what comes in (clark, Diame etc) just isn’t premier league standard

Wini and others were sold for about 75 million in the summer of 2016.
    Rafa spent about 63 million.

The surplus probably went on buying out the contracts of no hopers like Riviere.

Much of what Rafa spent was wasted.
