Cenk Tosun Looks A Bridge Too Far – Is This Newcastle’s New Target?

With Real Madrid even reported to be interested in the player it seems very doubtful that Newcastle can sign our top striker target Cenk Tosun in January.

The Besiktas striker has 11 goals and 3 assists in all games this season including 4 goals and 2 assists in 6 Champions League appearances.

We doubt we will be able to sign the striker – although we haven’t given up hope completely – it just looks doubtful now that some big clubs are interested.

There is report today out of Germany that Newcastle are interested in 27-year-old 6 ft tall striker Dominick Drexler who plays for German second-tier side Holstein Kiel.

He moved there from VfR Aalen a year last summer.

Dominick Drexler – in center – looks a bit like Jamie Vardy

He has been in good form this season with 10 goals and 5 assists in 18 total appearances for his club.

But at this lower level, it’s always tough to judge how good a player is.

German magazine Kicker is reporting that Newcastle scouts have watched the player this season several times, and if there’s not much money to spend in January, maybe Rafa will make a move for the German?

Indeed, his record is good this season, and he has helped the club to the top of the Bundesliga second division with 32 points from their 16 games.

Remember that Rafa wants to bring players in who can help us in the second half of the season to stay up;  they are not necessarily long-term buys for Newcastle.

What kind of fee would this Drexler fella require? A second division German club. Hard to know…… Transfer Markt says 800k euros! He’s probably not worth a bid then. And Mikey wouldn’t like it because he’s already 27. This would be more transfer fluff like Hoser Loo.

We need to be in the 20M pound or more range to get a true impact striker. Not some German worth 800K euros. What kind of silliness is this?

Bambams, if your sources are true it’s not what I’ve heard and it can only be a Saudi. Reasons being, every Saudi Prince born is given a number of barrels of oil a day as their “income”. I’d still rather have a proper businessman run the lub (MAF) than a Saudi upstart who only has money because of his parents and (sadly like so many of them), is fickle and will move on when they want, they don’t care about the loss, they can handle it.

So, having dispensed with the transfer fluff let’s discuss more realistic options shall we? It has to be someone decent, worth a fair bit to signal our intent to stay up. I personally don’t want Sturridge. Far too injury prone but if we could get him on a loan with Liverpool paying his full wage and some tasty snacks I wouldn’t completely snuff at it.

And people keep mentioning Danny Ings. I’m just not keen. And not Fernando Torres either. Let’s bid on someone in their mid twenties or a bit older with a decent upside but then put a really competitive bid in, even if it’s the majority of whatever laughable transfer budget Mike offers.

Oh, and another thing. What are we going to do with our current fluff? After this start to the season who would buy Hoser Loo? No don’t tell me, it would be far too depressing….. It’s going to be hard enough to sell Mitro after this miserable few months.

That’s the thing about making it clear which players you don’t rate at all as Rafa does. So then MItro steadily loses valuation. And what is Colback worth now? Some Brillo pads and dental floss? How can we amass a vast transfer wad with these lot to sell?

I have not got the knowledge about Middle East you obviously have. I cannot say 100% sure the backer is a fact and again this is the issue you have when sharing info.

What I will say is after 48 years on this earth, Toon supporter all those years like many others on here – I will happily take a ‘mega rich little upstart’ who uses us as a hobby for 3,4 or however many years IF it gives us a chance to win something rather than relegation battles each year.

Sorry if that is not sporting but that’s my opinion mate.

I want the much more solid Amanda and her group as wor new owners. They show persistence and common sense in their approach. We know now they won’t overpay (let’s just harken back to the fact that Ashley overpaid didn’t he?), and Amanda appears to be a real person (unless virtual reality technology has suddenly vastly improved). There may not even be (and I would say most likely isn’t) a second bidder.

This is getting down to the nubblies now. I would say it’s less and less likely that we will be sold before next summer. The deal has stalled. Let’s face it. But this should focus Mikey on the January window. If we go into it with less than 20 points (or even in the low 20’s) Mikey will have to spend or face the prospect of relegation again. So it’s very, very important that he focus now, avoid the Champers and stay away from advice from his brilliant pals like Kinnear, Llambeezee, Wise etc. If you want a few laughs Mikey hire Llambeezee to caper about scratching his armpits and entertain your kids but get proper advice for the club.

I can’t see a Saudi take over the toon. This deal will be for Staveley and PCP only with investors taking a % and a seat on the board. If the takeover happens it won’t be a mega rich individual, it’ll be a group with Staveley heading it up.

On ings no thanks utter shite

I think the key players for us over the next few months will be Lascelles, Clarke, and Lejeune, Ritchie, Shelvey, Atsu, Merino, and Gayle. And whoever we keep in goal. I think it will be Darlow. He looks generally quicker than Elliot. He will make the odd mistake however so be prepared lads.

I lived near Jesmond Dene in my early teens. My school was Heaton Grammar School (no longer there, I looked a few years ago). I was born in Wallsend lo those many years ago. My dad is the true Geordie. His brothers died in the war so the family presence is gone sadle.

Ings utter shite? Danny Welbeck was somehow bizarrely linked with us and people came on here and said he was shite, Arsene Wenger didn’t think so. Looking through some old posts earlierI seen that a few bloggers, won’t mention their names, were very underwhelmed by the signings of Ritchie and Gayle, who on earth were they honsestly expecting to join a championship club? Ross Mccormack signed his first ever big money contract to help Villa get promoted and then just decided he didn’t want to be a footballer anymore but will have the money instead.

“”This time the discussion will not merely concern the merits of squad rotation as a concept, but of the ability for Benitez to do so given that his first XI appears to lack genuine Premier League quality, never mind the dearth of class within his squad as a whole.””
