Newcastle Now In Free Fall – I Said It Could Be Like This

Newcastle fans are not very happy this morning and rightly so.

With Mike Ashley again refusing to spend Newcastle’s money to strengthen the side last summer we are now a team that seems unable to compete in the Premier League.

We lost our sixth game in seven yesterday when we were beaten at home 3-2 by Leicester City.

Not sure what happens now with there being a stalemate in the takeover negotiations.

But come January 1st when we will have played six more games we will probably be in the bottom three in the league.

Not a nice place to be if we are trying to attract players to the cub.

Dwight Gayle – scores again

Rafa Benitez was interviewed after the game and again he bemoaned the simple mistakes Newcastle are making:

“I said it could be like this.”

“We just have to be sure we understand we know the only way is to keep working harder and don’t make these mistakes.”

“I can’t think about that (the takeover).” “I can only think about the next game.”

“We have to be sure we improve the team and we understand this is the Premier League.”

“We are playing in the last two or three games, making easy mistakes and we have to learn quickly.”

“We had a draw and we were fine.”

What do you think about this situation?

    What take over?!!

Another change in formation may now lead to even more confusion but I wonder why we have not gone with 433 in order to occupy the midfield and bolster the defence. With Shelvey, Hayden and Merino playing across the middle we should really be a force with some quick forwards. Although I suppose there would not be a sub in case of injury.

anyone who thought this season would be anything other than a fight for survival need to give their heads a shake and look at the championship squad we have.
the simple fact is the players/squad we have are not good enough

Could I see a list of all the posters who said we would finish top ten? Who was the person collecting all the predictions?

Freefall. Some mess altogether. Can’t believe our performances are so poor. I always expected a fight this year to stay in the league. But looks like our players have given up on us already.

Not that I want Pulis to replace Rafa, but would four cb across our defence be a bad idea?

Players have not given up they are just lacking confidence so instead of playing forward passes which may create scoring chances we play a simple pass sideways so they can’t be blamed. A part of that is playing in front of a huge crowd who are passionate. Shelvey is the only player who has big Self belief and possibly lascelles. We need big players who can ha Djena the pressure but problem is they are often the better players who cost more.

Our wins came against woeful opposition (2 of them are in bottom 2 of league and I tip Stoke to go down) and even then those teams dominated possession round about 65%

*Didn’t Mbemba start in all three games? Even if he didn’t he’s done more to justify starting than Manquillo.

Hopefully we can scrape a win somewhere and might spark them back into life. Things are not good.

Lets hope the takeover is close then at least we won’t be held ransom to the argument of who would be brought in should we at some point part ways with Rafa!

…gets a bit annoying listening to the ongoing fear of the unknown and really thinking the worse!

C dog, I predicted 16th and was told I was negative and was a bastard for saying rafa isn’t as good as people think. I was pointing out rafa’s awful defensive mindset when we were playing villa and Sunderland and being abysmal. Others were lauding a freak 5-1 v Spurs. There are many on this site who cannot analyse football. Rafa needs better players. He also needs to stop being negative and inflexible.

One thing to be said in rafa’s favour though _ Leicester are decent. Some serious pace there.

it was like three teams playing out there yesterday

The defence who had no cover or link up play from midfield

Midfield wandered around nif lost did not pick up runners track back go forward

Forwards who chased many a lost cause yesterday but had little or no help from midfield.

Did anyone see a NEWCASTLE UNITED player tackle anyone and win the ball – the tackling was pathetic no meat, on the wrong foot, shirt pulling

Hayden – awful rather of had Colback or even Goufran as to his display yesterday.

If we allow Everton that much space i midfield – sorry to say another defeat

Our Toon – no i didn’t say we had a strong squad if you do your searches you will find that i said after the poor transfer showing in the summer Benitez was stranded and it would be a long slog season. Exactly how i thought it would be. Only surprise was we started well but i said injuries would hit us at some point.

I’m just realistic, all this baying for the managers blood is deflecting the blame from where it lies, Ashley’s penny-pinching and gambling to collect TV revenue while he sorts his escape plan.

We get some also-ran manager in maybe we’ll get the dead cat bounce but it will be Ashley dragging us to another relegation most likely.

I now believe Rafa wants the sack to get his £5million payoff to give the two fingers to Ashley, so we are stuck in a power struggle between 2 stubborn people and the team and the fans are sufforing.

For all those fans wanting Rafa sacked, can they not see the bigger picture, like Pardew after we finished fifth he was not given funds, however Alan Pardew dod not ask owner to keep his word or publicly ask to strengthen the squad, he signed an eight year deal and took us to the last game of the season fearing the drop after buying five players in January, or having bought for him. Rafa should be given funds in January and time to turn it round.
Comparing the Pardew and Mclaren situations, they doine nothing at all to merit being here, one was an out of work sacked league one manager and the other, having already turned us down, was waiting to be sacked before turning to us in desperation to manage in the PL which he’ll never do again. Nobody wanted them here, let the manager buy some quality players before your hysterics.

if we had won yesterday we would have gone 10th.

Everton are 10th if we beat them we will jump above them.

Since Lejeune came into the blue four it’s been a shambles yet rafa will pick him time and time again don’t be surprised to see Clark dropped for him when lascelles is back. At 2-2 it should have been shut up shop but we were wide open its unacceptable at this level.

I was sceptic to Benitez in the first place, due to his defencive approach to games.
That doesnt fit Newcastle at all.
I mean, a possesion on 35-40% against Leicester at home?
U mostly doesnt win games when u dont have the ball.

And over the autumn, seeing his strange stubborness in keeping Joselu, Perez, (The list could go on and on) in the team is baffling to say it least. And things like that makes me even more convinced that Benitez aint our saviour by any means.

U dont need an Einstein to see where and why the players confidence has gone.
Looks like whatever u do on the pitch, ur destined for either be in the team, in fringe of it or not in Benitez thoughts at all.

And why keep picking Darlow and Elliott? Both has their weak sides that often cost us.
Woodman is the future, and should be picked week in and out.

I guess he has lost the players by now, which isnt a good combo with the struggles we know will come.
U could see it on Mitros face when he entered the pitch yesterday, he wasnt excactly smiling.

Would love to see Benitez shake things up wednesday and deploy a team aka:

But I doubt it. Someone has a free ticket into the games it looks like, no matter what.

Guess Ill have a lot of stick for this post.
But fotball is more than numbers. And I want to see a team that atleast tries to win something. Better loose with the flag up.
