Dwight Gayle made the opener for Joselu for the Spaniard’s third goal of the season, and Dwight equalized in the second half to set us up for a point that we didn’t take and ended up losing again.
That was Dwight’s third Premier League goal, and he’s coming into some good form at a crucial time of the season for Newcastle.
Dwight got 63% of the vote for his assist and goal yesterday.
There are reports he will be sold in January but why sell a player who can score goals when we are so short of natural goalscorers in the team?
Second in the voting is 21-year-old Mikel Merino (10%) who is slowly getting back into the form he showed before his back injury.
Dwight Gayle – one goal and one assist
Third in the voting is 22-year-old Jacob Murphy (8%) who started the game brightly but then tailed off before being subbed in the second half.
But Jacob has shown he can become a good player at Newcastle once he gets more games under his belt.
Next up for Newcastle is an in-form Everton side who have been buoyed by the experienced Sam Allardyce coming in as manager.
We must try to get a win on Wednesday night at St. James’ Park.
Why Jonjo Shelvey is not being played these days is a little bit of a mystery – maybe he will get a chance on Wednesday night against the Toffees.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Somebody earlier saying Rafa spent £30m in the summer, all Spanish, all rubbish.
Just shows what they know. Murphy(English) and Lejeune (French) are decent if not quite prem ready, Merino (Spanish but definitely not rubbish) could be our new Rob Lee.
And 30m doesn’t even buy a decent left leg of a defender these days. Hence it being Ashley’s fault.

Comment #82Looks like the refs are having an influence again. Chelsea push Mwemba and goal allowed. Touch on Everton player going away from goal and penalty.

Comment #84If Ashley’s playing hard to get over incidentals like SD advertising, club shop, image rights not being included in the package, could that be the reason Stavely values the club at £250m. Maybe he’s expecting £350m or whatever for the club plus incidentals which any buyer would reasonably expect.
Include the add-ins and he may get a better offer from PCP.
The greedy git’s really made a complete mess of our club and the sooner he buggers off the better.

Comment #85When this ‘club for sale’ fiasco reaches its conclusion, sale or on-sale, it will be fascinating to forensically review the ‘information’ that has been published/ posted, as to what was true and what was pure speculation.
I for one will not be surprised to find that the so-called ‘facts’, as published by the media, Twitter, fanzines and blogs, were at its simplistic wishful speculations, or malicious fabrications, designed to damage the club.

Comment #91It was on the 23 May 2007 that Ashley announced his intention of buying NUFC. John Hall sold his 41% share, and 15 days later Freddie Shepherd sold his 28%. Ashley had by that time over 75% of the shares, he was able to take the club out of the Stock Market, and buy the remaining shares.
The whole procedure took place over a 3 week period!
If the club has been sold, and just the fine detail requirements needing agreement/compromise, then we are on schedule for the coronation of the new owner/s before the end of the year.

One of the best squads we’ve ever had. The defence not worth mentioning, by our sacred tradition it was awful.

Comment #95Well what a turn up for the books, jmiley, the most depressing twat on the blog, or at least one of them is a closet Ashleyite and has just come out. Yes who could blame ‘Mike’ for wanting his money back and a whole lot more on his original investment as he sits twiddling his thumbs watching as we slip closer to the abyss. Anybody who hates Ashley as much as jmiley has claimed to over the years would be praying he just got rid at the amount offered, not absolving him from any blame for our current predicament.

Comment #96I’ve noticed that the people calling for Rafa’s head most are the ones that stated with such authority last year that the team could not survive in the PL without serious investment. We didn’t get serious investment so what’s changed. Was the manager expected to preform miracles no matter what happened.
He wasted 30M, btw miley, Lejuene is French, Murphy is English and Atsu is Ghanian. Remember we needed five quality players annd squad fillers, we got six players in total because we had no money to spend. Ashley knew we’d struggle but like every season before this he was happy to gamble that we’d pull through in the end. Unfortunately for us it’s looking like a third relegation in his ten seasons could be on the cards, not forgetting the two seasons where we avoided it with two and one games spare. Yep miley, who could blame ‘Mike’.

Comment #99I don’t think for a minute we deliberately sit back after scoring and expect to hold on for 86+ minutes. Like any team short on confidence the cliche scoring to early comes in to play. We score, get jittery and the other team not being happy about being 1-0 down so early up their game. How could you expect to cling on to a lead for 90 minutes by hoofing it up the pitch.

Comment #100Taken this quote from the Chronicle Live that someone supplied a link for a few threads back.
“Benitez hasn’t even got time to reassess the club’s youth system and struggling reserve set-up because every hour on the training pitch counts this season.”
Not trying to belittle Rafa, but if he hasn’t got time to look at the youngster then he might be missing out on some of the kids that could be doing a good job for us.
As an example LPool had at least two of their kids on the pitch and it was one of Evertons that helped get them the draw.

Comment #101Yeah I think that is part of the natural ebb and flow of a football game. When a team is losing 1 0 they tend to push on for the equaliser. It is not a deliberate ploy by the team winning 1 0 just seems to be what happens but exaggerated when low on confidence. If Gayle’s second chance had gone in it would have been a different game!

Comment #105on TV last night, Saturday, a Ranger’s player was interviewed, the backdrop displayed the club sponsors, one of which was Sports Direct!
I thought that Ashley had relinquished his interests in Rangers. I can’t see the ‘gers giving the branding exposure free gratis, especially with his history in Glasgow. He must be paying, if he thinks the exposure is beneficial.
Let’s hope we have see the last of Mash, and the SD pollution…

Comment #108I’d be very surprised if Rafa spent enormous amounts of time faffing about with the perennial underachievers at a time when it’s all hands to the pump wringing a modicum of quality out of the first team squad. Nor would I want him to. There are no answers in the academy right now, never was really. That’s a project for another season.

Comment #111He needs to tighten it up again. Classic Benitez side. Don’t let the opposition play between the lines, and certainly don’t give them any space in our half. Defend from the front. Joselu up top, if he can’t trust Mitro, and Gayle off the bench if we are chasing a goal late in the match. Gayle has looked good at times, but he can’t lead the line, he needs a big man behind, or alongside, leaving us short in midfield, and we are conceding more than we score. We don’t have the quality to afford to start with him I think. We need a genuine target man, who’ll defend from the front and also score goals, and we don’t have one. I hope Rafa has been working hard with Mitro, to give him his shot, but it does look as if he’s been earmarked for a sale in January to help fund a centre forward to do what Joselu and Gayle and apparently Mitro can’t, lead the line AND score.

Comment #116A lot of work still left to do for Ashley to get out of this with his skin. He has surely made an even bigger mess of things than usual. Look at what’s happened since summer. Surely nobody can think Ashley took the right approach? Lack of support for the manager who brought up a Championship club with a few decent players but no real stars. Then the owner goes into his pauper routine again. It’s as if there is a part of Ashley that wants to fail and it keeps coming out with his actions regarding the club we love.

That strikes me as a very defeatist, short term answer, I’m sure that there’s gold in them there youngsters if they had a chance.
But I agree that we’ll not see any until he’s got some decent mileage from the front line players and some more quick points on the board.
Actually i’m getting a strong sense of deja vu, as if the club is in a time loop.
