Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player Against Leicester City?

Newcastle seem to be in free fall at the moment and we were again beaten at home yesterday – this time by Leicester City 3-2 and it was a late goal that beat us.

The Foxes scored the winner on 86 minutes and it happened to be an own goal from Ayoze Perez.

That means it was Newcastle’s sixth defeat in seven games and we are now one point worse off than we were when Steve McClaren was the manager of the team relegated two years ago.

Newcastle have now lost 9 games of the 16 games played so far in the Premier League.

Ayoze Perez scored own goal on 86 minutes – Leicester win the game

We are shocked about what’s happened since late October and to think we were hoping for a season around mid-table.

But a small investment in terms of funds in the summer transfer window is coming back to bite us, and it seems with every defeat Newcastle’s worth in the open market is decreasing.

Not sure what happens now with Mike Ashley trying to sell the club but he will not get £300M for it.

Maybe he will accept Amanda Staveley’s offer of   £250M and put us all out of our misery.

Always a danger trying to compose a worthy comment at this time in the morning – repost it is!

I didn’t even realise Mitro was used!

There attacking midfield were all over us and our defense has gone to pot, along with any former solidity and organization. The change in system that people had been calling for has left us exposed, however I do think the responsibility is with Rafa as the team are often out of shape. Our early form seems to have been thrown out with the bath water and against the teams in the top half.

The full backs are proving to be a weakness, Lejuene and Joselu have not shown why they were bought and Murphy looks a prospect but without actually being really effective. So all the players need to look at themselves and consider if they are contributing to the team or just holding on to their place.

OneAlanShearer with a great post st least there is some sensible fans out there. Can’t believe I read someone suggest we have a better squad than Watford lol that shows the level of knowledge on this blog. Brighton and Huddersfield have pretty equal squad strengths to us and will be at the bottom scrapping it out come end of the season. If Rafa goes who do we get? Pullis?? No thanks. Give Rafa money and judge him when he has had a chance to bring players he considers Orem quality in. Most he has bought so far were to get us out of championship. Joselu, manquillo etc was to get a body through the door as otherwise we would have had nobody.

To give Rafa some leeway you might say we have suffered from injuries, been knocked to the boundary by the big teams and suffered narrow defeats. I was pleased that we fought back yesterday and with better finishing could have had a result. For some reason, perhaps a lack of confidence, there was a lack of man marking and tackles which Rafa will need to address.

Rafa seems to have drilled the full backs to play deep and close to our penalty box but that leaves a acres of space out wide which attacking teams exploit. It’s almost if it’s ok not to allow goals through the middle as a trade off for stopping wide crosses leading to goals – but that’s where they come from players cutting across from wide or back post knock ins.

Lovhinvar you are a confused fan as you know nothing about football it’s that simple. Have you played the game at any level? If you had you will know that as a defender you are told to stay inside and cover the priority area of the pitch which is inside. If you are on the opposite flank to that of which the ball is then you should be almost like a 3rd cb with our wide player getting back to mark the opposition winger. Tell me one team who you see with their rb/lb marking the winger at the touch line? You won’t find any it’s that simple.

anyone who thought this season would be anything other than a fight for survival need to give their heads a shake and look at the championship squad we have.
the simple fact is the players/squad we have are not good enough

Our wins came against woeful opposition (2 of them are in bottom 2 of league and I tip Stoke to go down) and even then they dominated possession round about 65%

Didn’t Mbemba start in all three games? Even if he didn’t he’s done more to justify starting than Manquillo.

I was sceptic to Benitez in the first place, due to his defencive approach to games.
That doesnt fit Newcastle at all.
I mean, a possesion on 35-40% against Leicester at home?
U mostly doesnt win games when u dont have the ball.

And over the autumn, seeing his strange stubborness in keeping Joselu, Perez, (The list could go on and on) in the team is baffling to say it least. And things like that makes me even more convinced that Benitez aint our saviour by any means.

U dont need an Einstein to see where and why the players confidence has gone.
Looks like whatever u do on the pitch, ur destined for either be in the team, in fringe of it or not in Benitez thoughts at all.

And why keep picking Darlow and Elliott? Both has their weak sides that often cost us.
Woodman is the future, and should be picked week in and out.

I guess he has lost the players by now, which isnt a good combo with the struggles we know will come.
U could see it on Mitros face when he entered the pitch yesterday, he wasnt excactly smiling.

Would love to see Benitez shake things up wednesday and deploy a team aka:

But I doubt it. Someone has a free ticket into the games it looks like, no matter what.

Guess Ill have a lot of stick for this post.
But fotball is more than numbers. And I want to see a team that atleast tries to win something. Better loose with the flag up.
