Not too much about the transfer window in the last couple of days but there was a report in ESPN that Newcastle are interested in striker Richmond Boakye of Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.
At the very least we need to bring in two strikers in January, but maybe we also need some defenders – since the defense is not looking as robust as it was at the beginning of the season.
Boakye is in his second season at Red Star and last season he scored 16 goals in 20 appearances, and he only joined the club in January.
This term he has 22 goals in 27 total appearances.
Richmond Boakye – Red Star Belgrade striker
So he already has a massive 38 goals and 4 assists in 47 appearances for Red Star this year.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian International (12 caps – 6 goals) can score the goals.
Boakye is attracting attention from clubs across Europe with his excellent goalscoring form and the other Premier League side interested are reported to be West Brom.
Newcastle must bring in one or two strikers in January although Rafa Benitez is not sure what transfer funds he will get from Mike Ashley next month.
From his record alone, it would seem that Richmond Boakye would be an excellent signing for us.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1But if he’s that good, why aren’t any of the TOP clubs sniffing around him?….or are there?

Comment #9Everton certainly have quality but they also have a couple of kids at the back along with Martina a RB playing LB. It’s a good time to play them.
The quality they have is in midfield but stop siguardson and Rooney and we will stop them. They won’t have much threat on the wings either. This is a winnable game and one that we certainly do need to win. 1 point in 21 leaves no room for error now

There was a time when I thought low attendances and boycotts might be the only way to get rid of Ashley.
However, I had it pointed out to me that the TV money totally dwarfs gate receipts, so possibly not the effect needed from that, not alone anyway.

Was good to hear some positivity on the potential takeover last night, but could Ash not have got the alleged 300M in the escrow account from another source, rather than the sale of NUFC? Or was that explained? Sorry if it was.

Some will say they won’t but will
Some will say they won’t and won’t
Some will say nowt.
As a boy I was often told that a crowd could be guaranteed in Newcastle to watch a clothes line of eleven black white shirts. Things haven’t changed. Owners change, fans rarely do.

Comment #14That was criminal liverpool letting everton off the hook. The worst one of all was when Mane had 3 team mates square of him waiting for a tap in and he tried to beat the keeper from a tight angle. Selfish beyond belief. Almost as bad as Benteke taking the pen he missed. Shades of Mitro, before Ritchie put his foot down.

my dad used to say the same, ie folk would go to watch 11 B+W dogs.
However, i can give the lie to that as I remember going to see NUFC v Luton @ SJP in front of only 14,000.

I did explain it and did say myself he could have gotten the money from somewhere else but I couldn’t see where from as he has not sold any shares (and wud be very stupid in doing so) because large share transactions are always recorded and announced so he definately hasn’t sold any shares to raise any money.
I doubt he would have raised the money from equity from his property portfolio because property pricing all across the UK is flat and equity in property today is probably less than it was a year ago so doubt he’s squeezed 300 million out that way either.
I doubt he’s been paid for NUFC but the likely scenario is he’s agreed the deal, shown the deal to a bank, got a short term facility / bond on the money to be redeemed as soon as he receives the money from Amanda or whoever.
Mikey boy is a proper wheeler dealer…he knows how to raise money but selling NUFC is central to all his dominoes falling the right way because it’s all cash and doesn’t reduce his share holdings or property equity ratios.

Comment #17So Chelsea are sniffing around Boakye are they ? Sounds like another example of the big clubs hoovering up young talent to hideaway in their reserves and that prevents competitor clubs from improving their squads and thus protecting their own exalted membership of the European super clubs. It’s a pity their isn’t another Leicester style assault on their positions just to break up the cartel.

It was bad enough that mane didn’t pass and was greedy but he then laughed about it afterwards which would have made my blood boil.
I actually think the Liverpool lads were arrogant along with klopp and expected to roll Everton over, how firmino and coutinho weren’t starting was beyond belief!!

As for accepting 250M that would represent a loss for Ashley and I can’t see him ever entertaining that.
The factored in free advertising for 10 years is probably counter balanced by interest free loans to NUFC made over that period, so hopefully the 300M is the agreed amount.

Comment #20lets hope Ashley has accepted the amount of money for the club because if he hasn’t and in comes January and theres no money that’s us finished, we need at least 6 top quality players just to make sure we are above water this season, this has been a massive gamble by Ashley this, spends 80 million to get out of the fizzy pop league then when he gets back in the top league he doesn’t spend the money which is needed to stay there, ashleys not stupid I think hes as thick as a bit of wood if he keeps playing these games

They have CL matches as well so they’re rotating. Not too shabby when you have Mane starting and Coutinho on the bench. A million miles from what we can put out and in context getting a draw against them was quite an achievement.

Comment #22Everton truly is a must-win game. Lose against Everton and it is 4 points out of a possible 36 with Arsenal up next—that would more than likely leave the club on 4 points out of 39 as Arsenal will wreak havoc on a side in that kind of form. After that, it would take the club towards the West Ham game, already too far behind to start averaging a point a game to stay up… that means the club would not only have fallen behind, but needs to start trebling its point averages output. I remember being at this juncture last time 2 seasons go, it becomes a slippery slope.

can only blame Ashley so much but the buck stops at rafa about the teams he has picked the last 7 matches, ignoring better players for the players he has signed and played crap, ive seen kids play better on the school fields then these lot over the past 7 games, from what ive read from old players rafa has coached really top class players some of them don’t like his approach to them when they played that doesn’t look good either, what I think is this if we get beat off everton I would seriously consider sacking rafa and getting someone else in before the rot really sets in takeover or no takeover but that’s just my thoughts on it

Comment #25geordiemark, sure. Ashley undoubtedly gets the blame for the state of the squad, that being the 15th best squad in the league. But the 15th best squad should be better than 1 win and 11, and 1 point in 7 games. I just hope Benitez can rectify it soon—as this current form—could potentially scupper the sale of the club.

I’ve been a big critic of rafa recently but I don’t think we should be considering sacking him at all. Wait and see what the new year brings before making any knee jerk reaction.
I agree he needs to pick the better players but maybe in his eyes manquillo and joselu are better than mbemba and Mitro. If that is the case then maybe he is starting to lose the plot. Anyway I want us to stick with rafa but if we go into the new year with no more points added then serious questions will be asked

I think I’ve posted 2 of them who are better than the 2 we bought in the summer, Shelvey is another who’s recently been dropped. It could be argued Aaron’s as another completely disregarded.
Asking for rafa to be sacked now would be a disaster but he needs to improve the results and only he can do that. Time to swallow his pride and drop some of his favourites including Ritchie

Do you not think after 1 point in 21 points available a manager like rafa would swallow his pride and think of what the club needs ahead of any agenda he may have against players?
I can certainly see why fans are getting frustrated, if things were that bad behind closed doors I don’t think Mitro would even be on the bench, did make me chuckle though that we went behind and he turned to the Serb immediately to help get a goal!! Says it all really
