Really great news today about the potential takeover and it’s that Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners Group who have increased their offer from £250M to £300M and the deal is said to be close to being agreed.
Mike Ashley is expected to accept the offer, and that’s why we believe everybody was upbeat after the meeting in Hampstead last Wednesday night when Ashley and Staveley met for the first time.
The news is being reported by Sky Sports (Keith Downie) and Amanda Staveley and Mike Ashley also agreed last Wednesday night to ensure money is available for the January transfer window – that’s said to be a cool £30M.
Rafa will also be able to use any funds he gets if he sells players in the January window – so this is excellent news.
Amanda Staveley – the new face of Newcastle United
It seems that four weeks of due diligence is still necessary to complete the deal and Premier League’s fit and proper persons test is also required.
It will still be tough for Amanda to be the new Principal owner of Newcastle by the end of January but that’s not now impossible.
It was the right thing to do to ensure Rafa has the transfer funds he needs to bring the players in he wants in January.
That’s because Staveley is a little worried about relegation.
Aren’t we all.
The Guardian is reporting it was Ashley who (finally) opened up the coffers at Newcastle and will provide the transfer cash of £30M.
Remember that compares to the £19M net we spent in the summer so the manager should be able to bring in some decent talent.
Once Amanda is in place she could become the Chief Executive of the club and her first action will be to sit down with Rafa and give him a long-term contract so the manager can plot the course needed to make Newcastle great again.
Phase one of that course is to ensure we do not get relegated this year.
But with Rafa getting the cash and Amanda buying Newcastle we should be able to paint an exciting picture for new recruits who we go after next month.
This should also help our players since the uncertainty will soon be lifted on who the new owner will be.
And Mike Ashley will soon leave the club – presumably when the deal is complete towards the end of January.
It would be a great time to get our first win in 8 games tonight against Everton – that’s the urgent need at the moment – points on the board.
The atmosphere should be terrific.
It also appears that Rafa may have known the deal was close during his press conference yesterday – because he said people could be happy after tonight’s game.
Well as it turned out people are happy before the game – so let’s get the win.
Did I say this is excellent news?
