Lascelles, Diame, Atsu, And Shelvey Return For Everton

Rafa Benitez had just announced the team to face an improving Everton side at St. James’ Park tonight when we are hoping we can get the first win in eight league games and only our second win in the last twelve games.

And Rafa has made a few changes with both Jamaal Lascelles, Jonjo Shelvey, and Christian Atsu returning to the starting line-up

Jamaal Lascelles – captain returns

Mo Diame also gets another chance, and Ciaran Clark drops to the bench.

With the news breaking a few hours ago that Amanda Staveley has increased her offer for Newcastle up to £300M and a deal is now (very) likely – the fans will be upbeat tonight.

Amanda Staveley and Ashley have also agreed that transfer funds of £30M will be made available to Rafa Benitez in the upcoming January transfer window.

The deal is expected to be completed towards the end of January, and a transfer meeting will be held tomorrow between Lee Charnley and Rafa Benitez to identify which players Newcastle will go after in January.

Newcastle fans are not too confident of a win tonight with the majority of fans expecting another defeat – but a win and 3 points is what we need.

Hopefully Lascelles brings some stability to the back line. Glad to see Shelvey and Merino together in the midfield. HWTL!

No Joselu in the starting eleven…and no Mitro on the bench!

…it seems times up for the lad sadly!

Another one of those lineups that makes me shiver

    Interesting to basically a 433 then ?

Would like to see Shelvey further forward just behind Gayle for quick through balls

Last word on potential takeover ahead of the match:

We were a football club on its knees when Rafa arrived. We are why he stayed. He took us back up. And now, as @MsiDouglas says, he’s played a big part in attracting Staveley.

He has saved us. Now howay the lads! #NUFC

Diame? someone tell me what he’s done all season? why is lejeune still in line up he was at fault for a lot of our goals in previous games. ritchie should have been dropped too for aarons and play atsu on right. and no mitrovic on bench.. feel sorry for the guy

I do like he has went 3 in the middle for this match. Diame over Hayden seems sensible since Hayden has been a little out of form. Saying that, it’s diame lol. Interesting if it is 3 in the middle or whether one is playing in a #10.

Would probably have been a good game to drop both Lejeuen and Richie!

Gayle probably deserves another start and Perez doesn’t work with him…

Regardless of anyone’s opinion on mitro, I hope he’s out of the door 1st jan. kept his head down in what will have been a frustrating period for him. Deserves more game time and hope he gets it elsewhere, especially during a World Cup year.

Great to see lascelles, shelvey and atsu all back into the team and great to see the joselu sitting on the the bench.

Now that lascelles is back into the team our back line should be capable of defending much better and with both shelvey and atsu back into the midfield we should be able to be able to create more chances, the only thing left now is for our striker himself to score the chances and when you think how much better they’ll be thanks to our best possible midfield then I can’t see us not being able to score atleast once.

I myself predict a win. If this win does happen mind I demand rafa remains with the same line up again at the week end.

Clark dropped instead of Lejeune when our best pairing, proven by performances and results is Lascelles/Clark. Had a chance to restore the defence that looked good together and was a major reason for our good early run.

Diame I’m not against if he’s further up the pitch. Since Lascelles gave him a whack he’s looked more committed.

Ritchie has looked knackered and been in poor form for a good 4/5 matches. Along with Yedlin they really need to do better together, in both directions.

Becoming more and more likely now that Mitrovic is as good as gone I think.

    As ever, let’s see.

I wish i could have seen the following line up before mitrovic gets sold but dont think we are now. Darlow. Yedlin, Lascelles, Clarke, Mbemba. Ritchie, Merino, Shelvey, Atsu. Gayle, Mitro. Ideally would have preferred atsu on right and aarons on left. Shame we wont see this. Mitros gone in jan. if I was mitro id tell rafa to fk off right now this treatment of him is so bad. mitro got sent off once under rafa and got banned for 3 games for using elbow. Shelvey got sent off twice under rafa last season and this season also he got 5 games for racism but rafa still picks him so whats his beef with mitrovic? im not the biggest mitro fan club im just saying hes not a bad player i remember his work rate against man utd and arsenal his 1st season in premier lge he wasnt as bad as others like riviere, facundo etc. mitro is only young and im sure would have got much better with regular footy.

    it’s a hochpoch team again,

but we knew legeune was starting when rafa came out and defended him yesterday.

Diame? how he fits in this god only knows, even Joselu is better then him

Ritchie over Murphy, tricky one as all three with Atsu,Rafa signings

    pretty much picks itself really

We all wanted him to succeed.

But Benitez has had his say.

We’ll all wish him luck internationally and wherever he lands.

Its bad how young players get treated, i remember roeder didnt use giuseppe rossi well but after he left man utd he became a top player in spain and italy. i bet when mitro leaves he will become one of those forwards we crave for in future cos i can only see him improving i dont see him as a journeyman.

I hope we aren’t chasing the game as we will have to turn to joselu to get us a goal.

In all seriousness I’m buzzing about the takeover but this team selection and bench options has me scratching my head. Hopefully we haven’t caused ourselves to much damage by the time January comes round

I like the look of this. Feeling a win. Diame is pants but he tries to carry it forward. Mostly looses it but no other center mid in our squad even attempts it. If he has a good game I think we win. Special mention to Rafa for dropping Josiére. Your my boy.

What’s funny, we persevered with Joselu during poor games. Finally he scored and gave an ok performance but then gets dropped. Not advocating his selection lol just trying to figure rafas thinking. Obviously needed to reinforce the midfield so one striker had to drop so gayle deserves to play. However, can gayle lead the line in the premiership?
