After the positive news yesterday from Sky Sports that the offer of £300M from Amanda Staveley was close to being accepted by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley there is news today from the Telegraph that there’s still plenty of work to do.
The next step has to be that Mike Ashley accepts the offer and then with the general agreement in principle agreed to – there will be a period of exclusivity of about 30 days during which the deal can be completed.
So this tweet from Luke Edwards is accurate in that there is still work to do – further due diligence and getting the Premier League to approve the potential new owners of Newcastle.
But that was said to be possible to complete in about 30 days – but could be delayed by the upcoming Christmas holidays.
Mike Ashley – is he going to throw up?
The next piece of news has to be Ashley accepting the offer, and he’s said to be on business over here is the US at the moment.
Here’s Luke Edwards’ tweet.
UPDATE Still plenty of work to do before deal agreed regarding #nufc takeover. It’s not as close as some thought. Talks ongoing. Blah blah blah. I’m going on holiday. So is Ashley apparently. This is getting rather tiresome.
— Luke Edwards (@LukeEdwardsTele) December 14, 2017
That’s not good that Ashley is going on vacation unless somebody is in place to represent him so the deal can keep moving forward; he should also be reachable wherever he is on vacation.
We need the deal completed as soon as possible so Rafa can bring in some of the players he wanted to bring in last summer but couldn’t because Ashley withheld transfer funds.
Now, look at where we are through this particular demonstration of short-sightedness by the Newcastle owner.
It’s not good – in fact it’s starting to become a little alarming.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41it is possible that PCP/ Buyer have a football chairperson waiting in the wings ready to take over the negotiations and the financial and commercial side of the club
could Charnley do a better job with the chains and shackles removed he has been working under extreme conditions with very tight budgets and a very hard task master

We are on dangerous ground at the moment, not only are we arguing amongst ourselves here on the blog and some of the comments are more than unpleasant, looks like p!ayers are doing the same, ?
How are we going to get players to join us whilst we are plummeting towards the foot of the table after a run of 7 defeats in 8 games, even with a world class manager, we are rapidly becoming a laughing stock, dark times.

Wasn’t sure how serious you were as some Blogs/forums do indeed have a human Moderator(s) but I doubt they wear long coats with round classes pinching their nose whilst perched precariously on a rickety high stool in front of a slowly dying fire in the gloom of a winter twilight 🙂
Ed would of course need an army of moderators to keep this Blog functioning in real time given it’s poularity

I do not think investing in January in a couple of players for 30million is gonna save us from relegation this season. Nope.
where did you get that figure £30m everyone’s seems to be quoting that number but no one seems to know where it’s come from ??

Thought had crossed my mind but not sure of the protocol in business deals.
Presunably if it is simply the proverbial dotting of “i’s” we are stuck on, it won’t be beyond the wit and abilities of both sides to see the business wisdom of initiating such an arrangement?

With all these positives from last game, who do u want to see starting vs Arsenal?
My pick would be:
Goal:
Woodman.
Both Darlow and Elliott are useless.
Defenders:
Sterry-Lascelles-Clark-Gamez
Sorry to say, but both Yedlin and manquillo hasnt convinced in a defencive aspect of the game. And we need to shore up things.
Midfield:
Atsu-Mbemba-Merino-Aarons
I think Mbemba can do a good job in midfield. He has done it well in that role on his national team.
Hayden hasnt convinced at all this autumn.
Attacking midfield:
Richie or Murphy
Forget Perez or Joselu. Both are useless going forward. Cant rely on an odd goal here and there, cause as long the other team score once we have to score two. And I just dont see that happens with those 2 on the field.
Richie on the other hand can do things. Just free him from tracking back too much. Thats a part of the game hes not so good at.
Murphy can also have an impact on this slot, as he can get past a man or two on his day.
Striker:
Gayle.
In normal circumstances I would put Mitro here, but I reckon him for gone. Which is sad.
Joselu just aint good enough, so that leaves us with Gayle.
So, how many hits do u think Ill get coming saturday on Rafas team sheet?

Comment #53Is it not plausible that if the deal between the Club and PCP is legally agreed before January that Ashley can release the necessary transfer cash from his pot and then recover the amount from the PCP funds when the deal is ratified by the FA after the 30 day period.
These rumoured transfers and loans need to be in place fast in early January as it takes time for players to bed into the team, prove their fitness and ensure that their families are settled into homes nearby as we need happy people not miserable mercenaries.
Bonus is that our FA Cup Winning run starts then to coincide with our move up the table.

I agree with Hibbit, there will already be a team set up by Stavely for the transfer window and early running of the club.
I also think Rafa will have a big involvement.
Long term you never know what the set up will be.
I liked the comment by (Luke Edwards I think) one of the local scribes that Stavely wants a set up to rival Man City in PL and Champions league.
Let’s just keep the faith

I think my posts are stuck in moderation somewhere 🙂
Apart from hibbit ( I think he was responding to me?) no one seems to be interested in addressing my query as to who actually sources and completes the deals assuming somehow the requisite funds are made available if sale is not complete and no changes in personnel are yet made. This is arguably as if not more important than the funds? Must just be me 🙁
Presuambly someone could be added to Board by agreement of all parties to participate in transfer deals (Chris Mort?)

Comment #60Absolutely agree with Luke Edwards. Murdoch has just done a deal for 50billion+$ which appears to have happened quicker then this on going takeover soap opera, which at the end of the day will come to nowt. Totally resigned to relegation, also its worth saying that Rafas record would have gotten him sacked at any other club. Man management motivation and orginisational ability seems to be totally lacking. 56 year I have had of this rubbish, from my first game in the old second division when Alan Suddick pulled down a Bury players shorts to the current nightmare of Ashleys tenure. Wake me up when its over

Comment #62Ashley isn’t stupid here, he says yes to the deal, he then has in the agreement he will give the amount needed for Rafa to get new players he needs. This of course would be a loan at some % interest. Newcastle stay in the Prem, they receive a big amount of cash that goes back to Mike, they get relegated with a parachute payment and that help pay back Mike. Either way Mike would get paid stay up or go down, this money would 100% be a loan if Mikes gives it over, he off course would only do this if the club is 100% sold to Amanda’s group and written into the sale.

Comment #66Can’t really add much to whats already been said to last nights disappointing result, especially as we should have beaten them. Have only watched the extended highlights on Sky but from them as far as I could see we were far the better side.
Shelvey would probably have been criticized for not trying to tackle their player given the state of the match at that moment. It was a lose lose situation for him.
As for HT I’d rather see Woodman playing at number 10 than him he brings nowt to the team. Why Rafa keeps picking him is totally baffling. It must have cost us points!!!

Comment #69Ultimately our poor running is down to the lack of quality in the squad but Rafa has cost us points, he’s made as many mistakes as our inexperienced players. We would not of won last night but our best Goalkeeper was warming the bench, Why.
Starting Diame, baffling.
Another point lost down to Rafa.
I’m sure Rafa will pull us around with the right investment, hope it’s a substantial budget because 30 mil won’t make a lot of difference to us.

Not really what I would characterise
as a battering
We were still well in it until Yedlin’s

We were then chasing the game and
paid the price
In my opinion

I get what you are saying with regards to Watford game, chasing it or not we still conceded a massive amount if chances and didn’t create a massive amount ourselves. I still think the Watford game was by far our worst performance
