If we look at our situation now, it looks dark and gloomy but as manager Benitez says it’s a long season.
We have to hope things can change but it’s apparent we have missed captain Jamaal Lascelles, and the defense looks a lot more solid with the former Nottingham Forest in central defense.
In the last two games he has started, we have lost only 1-0.
That was the score in his last two games – we lost at Burnley and at home to Bournemouth when h had to leave with an injured ankle.
And then we kind of collapsed with letting in too many goals – in fact, 15 in a five-game stretch before Jamaal returned.
Rafa has reminded everybody it’s a long season and we still have 20 games to play:
“The fans know what the situation is from September.” “The main thing for me is to be sure that the team continue working like today.”
“It’s a long season. We are having games where we are losing by one goal now, but they will turn into draws and wins.”
“The difference between some teams in the table is not too big.”
“If we continue doing that we will have a couple of games where we can get better results and gain more confidence.”
“You can’t complain about the work-rate of our players. They’re giving everything.”
“We are where we are and we have what we have.
“They are working so hard in terms of effort and trying to do things and you can’t complain.”
“The only thing is, sometimes in the final third we aren’t lucky enough.”
“We had chances at the end and we stayed in the game and worked hard.”
“To do that means this team is still fighting and the fans appreciated that.”
To have a third successive relegation season in the Premier League is depressing and it’s the fourth in five PL seasons.
But we must support Rafa – he’s the only hope we have of surviving this season.
It’s still possible.
