Our Man Of The Match – The Quality Signing Of Last Summer

Newcastle started the current bad stretch when both Jamaal Lascelles and Mikel Merino were injured after both had been playing well for the side.

Our defense quickly started to fray, and we conceded too many goals – 15 in a five-game stretch – and that from a Rafa Benitez team was surprising.

But in the last two games – although we have lost both of them against Everton and Arsenal the score was just 1-0.

Both Lascelles and Merino are back again and starting to play well again.

And for the game at the Emirates on Saturday 21-year-old Merino is our Man of the Match with 49% of the vote.

Mikel Merino – beating Jack Wilshire on Saturday

And Jamaal is second in the voting with 14%.

We need these two to stay fit, and we could start to pick up some wins soon – which we need badly.

Merino has class, and he was a steal for around £6M from Borussia Dortmund.

He doesn’t have a lot of experience, but the good news is he will improve as the season progresses.

Earlier comments about Ashley needing cash in a hurry for the Camden market deal make no sense as that deal is only for £30m which is pocket money he has lying around in old milk bottles. Funnily enough £30m we could do towards the transfer kitty.

There was suggested a much bigger property or land deal elsewhere that had a deadline date of pre-Xmas attached to it for the preferred bidder otherwise the deal went to other bidders. Clearly a load of bolllocks unless Ashley sells NUFC this week and surprises us all with an early Xmas present. Not really his way is it.

The media are dying to see us sack rafa. It’s ridiculous.
The only think I’m desperate for is Ashley to see and new owners to invest. This club is a sleeping giant.

Nezza from a couple of threads back..

Who said PCP’s dragging its heels?.

No less than Shirebrook, previous thread post 397….
‘Jib is spot on with that. PCP are the ones that are dragging their heels.’

    Hopefully a typo where,’are’ should’ve been ‘were’.

    Shire?

Some of our youngsters are the only saving grace with this current squad. If and it’s a massive IF, we get major investment, I can only three players being good enough to make the grade. We are simply carrying too many championship standard players, players Ashley knew were no where near food enough but still went back on his word and allowed us to struggle until sheer panic set in

It seems to me had we managed to sign a decent (not even top notch) goalscorer we would not be in the position we are in now – I recon we would have been a solid mid table team if not a bit higher. No one really expected wins away to the likes of Man U, Chelsea or Arsenal but with a decent centre forward we could have taken draws from some of those games! We could also have won some of the games we have lost. Bournemouth & Everton come to mind and those six points alone would have put us in mid table. If we can find a decent scorer we will be OK!

If you were in the middle of negotiating a purchase of a pl club that in the meantime decided to plummet towards relegation, wouldn’t you be waiting for the vendor to blink?

There’s quite a bit of difference buying a car with full MOT and one which is just about to run out.

Ashley’s policy gamble is biting hard now. How he doesn’t learn after two costly mistakes in the same manner is beyond arrogant.

I’m being told there’s supposedly an announcement today. All we can do is wait. Mike Ashley has really met his match with PCP.

Just want it completed now so we can get on with the task in hand which is survival

Yeah I am pragmatic as well. We know what sort of fan we are now it’s just haggling over the price ( to revamp an old cliche) 😉

Does everyone feel the same though or is a step too far?

Ineresting if it does happen for FFP reasons.

If Ashley’s proposed land purchase deal has gone Southfield this mean that his time pressure has relaxed so he can drag out negotiations?not sure that would make sense because it commits him to spend in January to protect his sale price. I can’t see any scenario where it’s a good idea to draw this one out. It seems his ideal window has passed

JohnJ, 100% agree mate, the amount of chances we create in,ymto find our strikers are simply not good enough.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results.

By this definition, Ashley is as mad as a box of bloody frogs, and while xmas is a time to be with family and friends, to relax and enjoy yourselves, at NUFC it signals the time to panic and run around like a headless chicken trying to out right what you should have done in the bloody summer.

Hibbit @15 aye those “chicken feed” comments always get me. I don’t think people get the mentality of the rich. They are either born with the mentality of entitlement or they have acquired those riches through good old fashioned greed and avarice. Try asking one of them to buy you a £80k house. 🙂

it’s funny just how much 3 players could totally transform your team. I would have absolutely no problem with some quality loans at this stage. I would take finishing 17th right now.

I see “The Many Faces of carl” has got another season. Blackley has come out of hibernation since his brother has emigrated to the moon and left him to argue with himself. It’s all happening.

Rotonda, we’ve had some massive January’s but this one is without doubt the biggest, some quality loans can change everything, especially as we are going into a World Cup year where players want game time and want to earn their place in their respective squads.

Get this next window right and it’s a potential game changer for NUFC’s long term future get it wrong and I dread to think what can happen
