Newcastle Have 4 Crucial Games In 9 Days Coming Up – During Festive Period

It will be interesting to see where we stand a week on Monday – New Years Day – after we have played at Stoke because that will be the end of a four-game stretch taking place over a short nine days.

We must start picking up some points with the team 2 points worse off after 18 games played than we were under Steve McClaren two years ago.

But we’ve seen in the cases of both Everton and West Ham that it only takes a few wins and those clubs have moved up the league table.

Newcastle are 4 points from going 12th top and above Southampton in the league table – but we must end this terrible run of one point from the last 27 played for.

Jamaal Lascelles – back in the side – steadying influence

Here are the four games coming up.

Date Fixture KO time
Sat 23 Dec West Ham vs Newcastle 15:00
Wed 27 Dec Newcastle vs Man City 19:45
Sat 30 Dec Newcastle vs Brighton 15:00
Mon 1 Jan Stoke vs Newcastle 15:00

And here is where we stand after 18 games after being 6th top after 9 games played when we had a good 14 points.

13West Ham38-2042

Here’s how the team compares with Steve McClaren’s side of two years ago.

We need to win tomorrow to start steadying the ship.

I thought i’d read it all, until Ians post a couple if articles back

“Rafa’s relative failure at Liverpool was MASKED BY WINNING THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE” !?!?!?!?!?!?
Really? So the UCL is not proof of success, just something you win to hide how sh1te you are.

Just give up. And using “cara” as backup? I doubt many put much belief into what that phlegmy scouse biscuit says.

    Away to West ham?

Doubt it but even a draw would do to get some points on the board.

Stoke again lose as they are always tough on their own turf.

Brighton? Got draw all over this has Houghton will take advantage of our losing streak.

1 point from 12 I can see with our next 4 games, if we pick up some confidence we could get 6-9 points but I think the West ham game will provide what we could get realistically.

If we lose to them then get pounded by Man City, players moral will be more down along with nerves about the takeover.

One point from the West Ham game would be good but as we have recently been losing by a one goal margin, I doubt we could see out a drawn game.

It really is the last throw of a managers dice when he has to win something to mask his failure.

It’s amazing the lengths people go to. Apparently the Spurs team we beat last year were already on the beach. Not looking for the win that would have seen them finish above their bitter rivals for the first time in thirty odd years.

I find it really funny to look at the Goalscorers list on this page, to me it shows how pathetic the players that Rafa puts on the pitch game after game really are! Mitrovic is tied for second in 192 total minutes of playing time and Aarons is tied for third in 142 total minutes(totals include Prem and Cups). Neither of them rate according to the Messiah. His two co-leading scorers who have 1 more total goal than Mitro have played a total of 1134 and 761 minutes. I think that says alot about the decisions Rafa makes without even giving some players a chance, PATHETIC RAFA!

Rafa Benítez has been speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s trip to @WestHamUtd.

Here’s what he had to say…

Rafa on training plans over Christmas: “We will train before the next game. We will have time on the pitch (on Christmas Day), then give the players some time to spend with their families.” NUFC

Rafa: “We were doing so well that everyone was expecting us to be towards the top of the table. We have had a bad run but we are confident that we can do well.” #NUFC

Rafa: “Some of these games are one-goal margins. We have to be sure we don’t make the same mistakes.” #NUFC

Rafa: “We have to keep the team spirit. Against Arsenal, we were pushing and making chances at the end. The players are giving everything. They care and they are trying.” #NUFC

Rafa: “We create a good atmosphere in the training sessions. We create competition between the them. If we win one game, it will change everything. The confidence will come back.” #NUFC

Rafa: “In terms of transfer window, we don’t have any agreements with anyone. We have to keep focused on football. The scouting department are looking at players and are working hard.” #NUFC

Rafa: “We haven’t received any offers for our players. We have to do things as quickly as possible but I have the confidence and belief that we will do it.” #NUFC

Rafa on @WestHamUtd: “We are talking about a very good team. They have some good players. Maybe it was the confidence. Now they are reacting and doing well.” #NUFC

Rafa: “We have to put all of the effort in to make sure West Ham have a tough game. I am confident we can win.” #NUFC

Rafa on injuries: “Mitrovi? still has a problem with his back. He will be out for around ten days. Jesús Gámez has had an operation on his ankle.” #NUFC

Rafa: “We have some injuries and not too much experience. I have to see if the players are fit and available and pick the best players for every game.” #NUFC

Mark- You need to read the book or do some research. Benitez replaced Houllier in 2004. Benitez spent massively post winning the CL
The book albeit written by a homegrown star makes it very clear that the best performers were Gerrard, Owen and Carragher. Rafa lost the club £8 million over six months in 2008 on the signing and sale back to Spurs of Robbie Keane.
Virgin Trains placed a newspaper advert “ A Liverpool to London return faster than Robbie Keane”.
I was talking to an elderly L’pool fan recently who is a big Benitez fan but
he felt that during his time as manager there wasn’t much sign of a correlation between transfer spending and class quality signings.
He likewise sees him as an excellent tactician and developer of young talent.

Another recruit to Catchy’s merry men – or could the name be another one of Catchy’s names? It’s easy to get confused when one’s got so many names on the go!

Give the anti Rafa drum banging a rest, you’re wasting your time and effort.
