Rafa Confident About Mike Ashley – Expects To Get Support In January – Wants Players Signed During First Few Weeks

Rafa Benitez has just completed his press conference today for the game at the London Stadium tomorrow afternoon against West Ham United.

Since our long-suffering fans haven’t had much to celebrate since we hammered Crystal Palace 1-0 at home on October 21st – with the late goal coming from Mikel Merino – we are hoping for a win tomorrow to bring some Christmas cheer to Tyneside.

Rafa has talked about the upcoming transfer window and he talks about being confident he will get the support from owner Mike Ashley – something he didn’t get in the last two transfer windows.

Rafa Benitez – press conference

Here’s some of what Rafa has said on the transfer situation:

“In terms of the transfer window, we don’t have any agreement with anyone. We are progressing and trying to make things happen.”

“But I don’t know the budget I have, whether players need to go first yet, or what”

“I don’t know how much I can spend. Or how much we have.”

“Am I confident we can get what we want? In some cases yes, in some cases no.”

“But I have confidence in Mike Ashley that we can get what we want by January 20 so we have lots of time to work with them.”

“Some of these ‘names’ (we have been linked with) are impossible but we’re working hard to get players and I’m in contact with Lee Charnley.”

“We have to do things as quickly as possible.”  “I have the belief and confidence in Mike Ashley that by mid-January we will do it”

We were hoping Newcastle were making progress on some loan deals – but Rafa seems to say we haven’t made too much progress yet – maybe it’s all paper talk?

I don’t believe for one minute Benitez doesn’t know what’s going off behind the scenes .He’s gonna be kept in the loop and with only 9 days left until the transfer window opens plans are going to be in full swing with targets hand picked.
There is no way we are going to go into the January transfer window in another shambolic mess like the last window when Ashley offered another false dawn which in turn has left us in this mess

Ok so I’m not confident at all we will get what is needed now. Some of the names not possible. For me that sounds like rule out any big names linked. Just a guess but if put a line through Shaw and Slimani.
