Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez knows all about football – all the facets of the game.
On the other hand owner Mike Ashley knows very little about football.
We have to give it to Ashley that he’s been very good at having Newcastle’s financial position in a healthy condition.
But that has come at the cost of the team on the field – which is one reason we have been in the top nine in the Premier League only once during his 10 years as the owner and also suffered two relegations in the Premier League.
Ashley has shown very little ambition for the club.
Rafa has revealed today he has not only talked to Lee Charnley but also to the owner (this week) about the upcoming January transfer window.
Rafa has been talking to Ashley on how the club can move forward.
The triumvirate running Newcastle at the moment
The manager seems confident about things, and this is what he said as reported in the Northern Echo:
“I am talking with Lee Charnley every day,” “I was also in contact with Mike Ashley.”
“We have been in contact talking about how to move forward. We are progressing and I have confidence we will do well.”
“Exactly as I’m expecting? I don’t know, but I have confidence we can do something that will be important for the team.”
“We have seen the consequences of not doing business in the way we wanted to do business in August.”
“So it’s obvious when we talk about January how important it is for the city, for every fan, for everyone at the club to stay in the Premier League.”
“We will try to do what we have to do.”
“I hope that Mike Ashley is clever enough to understand” “What I say is that it’s his team, his business, he wants the best for the team.”
“We have been progressing and talking about names and the way to move forward.”
“I think we are going slowly trying to do things, but I think we can have some good news in the next couple of weeks.”
It looks like Rafa will try to bring in some loan signings to strengthen the squad.
And maybe some of that good news could be on the takeover?
Just a thought.
