There’s a report in the Croydon Advertiser today which has a headline that says the Newcastle takeover is complete.
We know there were some Newcastle fans who thought (hoped?) the deal was all but done and it could be announced today – Christmas day.
But the Croydon report is misleading and it never really addresses what is in the headline.
Their reporters say what they think may happen over Christmas and in the new year in the Premier League.
One talks about how the Newcastle potential takeover by Amanda Staveley is dragging on and has affected the Newcastle results.
And they go on to say how things at Newcastle will only get worse with the takeover hanging over the club.
Merry Xmas to you too.
Ms. Amanda Staveley – potential new owner of Newcastle
We agree the takeover is affecting the performances on the pitch and it would be much better if there was more certainty on what’s going on – if a deal could be agreed.
So most Newcastle fans will think the deal has been done today if they see the Croydon headline – but as far as we can tell there is no new news on the takeover today.
But things have been advancing over the last week or so with Staveley raising her offer closer to the £300M that Mike Ashley wants, but relegation still remains the problem with no agreement on what happens if we get relegated.
What we need is a winning run soon and move up the league table and that may entice Ms. Staveley to drop the relegation clause that she has in her current offer.
That could do it.
What do you think?
