Newcastle were very interested in bringing Benfica’s Andreas Samaris to the club last summer, and there were many stories about Rafa Benitez wanting the Greek International.
The 28-year-old Greek international defensive midfielder was a top target, but as usual, the price was too much, and we refused to pay the £17M transfer fee.
Reports from Portugal suggest that Benfica will be willing to lower the transfer fee of the player.
With rumors that both Mike Ashley and Ms. Amanda Staveley are willing to fund Rafa in this transfer window, Rafa may have as much as £40M to spend next month.
Andreas Samaris – Benfica defensive midfielder
If that’s true we may see Rafa bring in two or three top players permanently and the rest on loan.
We have already been linked with the likes of Kenedy, Danny Ings and Islam Slimani on loan as Rafa tries his best to bring ion some class and creativity to the side.
Samaris has 31 caps and one goal for Greece, but he didn’t get the playing time he wanted last season with the Portuguese powerhouse appearing only 32 times, but a lot of those were late sub appearances.
If Rafa is still keen on the central midfielder, we could see him join Newcastle next month.
And in his press conference on Friday for the game at West Rafa was adamant he wants all player into the club before the 20th January, so he has time to work with them on the training pitch.
The form of our lads at West Ham was excellent, and we deserved all 3 points.
So if we can get some good players into the club in January, we could be OK this season and stay in the Premier League.
That’s the number one goal – the only goal.
