Injury Update From Benitez – Mainly Good News – Saivet To Be Given Every Chance At Newcastle

Rafa has given an injury update for the game against Manchester City tomorrow night at home.

And it’s good news in that both Mikel Merino and Isaac Hayden will be fit for the game and of course, Jonjo Shelvey is also available after missing two games through suspension.

It’s going to be interesting who Rafa picks in central midfield, but it’s expected that Rafa will keep Henri Saivet in the team and possibly Mikel Merino will come back into the side to partner Saivet.

Mikel Merino – should be fit for tomorrow night

Although Rafa may go for the experience of Jonjo Shelvey tomorrow night against the excellent and in-form Manchester City side – we shall see.

This is what Rafa has said about the injury situation as reported in the Shields Gazette:

“Merino and Hayden will have a chance because it was little problems.”

“Lejeune? It will be more difficult.”

Mitrovic and Gamez are also out of the Christmas games with slight injuries.

There’s a report in the Northern Echo today that Rafa will give Henri Saivet every chance now to prove he is a Premier League player.

And Rafa was hugely impressed by Henri’s attitude after not getting a look-in under Rafa so far in his tenure.

Newcastle fans were also hugely impressed, and Saivet is an excellent technical player who can provide a threat from free kicks as we saw on Saturday at the London Stadium.

And he worked his socks off in the second half mainly in a defensive role as West Ham came at Newcastle after we went 3-1 up.

Saivet should be given every chance to shine, and we should keep him until the summer to give him a chance to prove he should be staying at Newcastle.

What do you think?

It’s hard to see how a player frozen out for so long will just come back into the team on the strength of a free kick.

What’s laughable about Munsters “demoralisation” theory is that it’s a professional sportsman’s life to be judged on performances and to live or die by his capability.

There’s no such concept to a professional as being upset by the horrid manager over his nasty words. There’s just shape up or ship out. I believe its why they get paid enough, even the utility players, to buy a terraced house every month. It sort of dulls the pain. If a player like Coalsack can’t fathom it, guess what happens? Exactly.

Just wonder if Lejeunes injury and fitness can be traced back to Chopper Kane’s tackle earlier in the season. He should have had two Red cards by now and should be on the Naughty boy stool next to Precious Alli but then again the FA and Sky wouldn’t want that to happen would they ?

If Rafa gets the players he wants then I can see Shelvey being reduced to a squad player or like some others leaving to go back to the smoke if West Ham want him.

Looks like Goalkepper, Left Back, Attacking Midfielder and Striker are the main targets , all need to be on board early January before Swansea on the 13th.

    You’re completely missing the point.

It’s based off of his attitude, which has been superb to say that he was told he was 5th choice. Even after a mistake he had the balls to try and make something happen.

    Then look at Colback.

Saivet deserves his chance at the club now.

The lad obviously showed a lot of bottle for the free-kick and tackled quite well but I thought his passing was poor. Probably good backup for Hayden type player.

Merinos passing was awful when he first played, got caught on the ball a lot. Reverted to that form when he came back. I dare say saivet will sharpen up after some torrid beatings ha ha

You never know he might turn out as well as this guy –
