Newcastle Player – What It Will Take To End Manchester City Run Tonight

With Florian Lejeune injured, Ciaran Clark has slotted straight back into the Newcastle defense and showed the understanding that exists between him and captain Jamaal Lascelles.

It helps they had a season together down below, and they were two of Newcastle’s best players in our promotion back to the Premier League.

And they both had good games in the excellent 3-2 win at West Ham last time out.

Now there comes a much more significant challenge tonight when we welcome (if that’s the right word) a very powerful Manchester City side to Tyneside.

There will be 52,000 fans at St. James’ Park, and we are likely to see the crowd again pay homage to our manager Rafa Benitez.

Ciaran Clark – in action at the London Stadium on Saturday

The game plan he put together for the West Ham game was exceptional, and we will need the same again when we play Brighton and Stoke in the two games after tonight’s tough test against the league leaders.

It will be interesting to see what game plan Rafa has tonight, but we can look forward to some quick counter-attacks from the Newcastle team, and they may just catch the opposition off guard.

To get anything tonight from a team that has won their last 17 league games in a row,  the lads will have to be close to their very best form.

It’s possible to get something out of this game even if it’s unlikely.

This is what Ciaran has said today about the game tonight as reported in the Chronicle:

“We’ll have to be at it right the way through,” “When you’re playing against a team like City, you know they’re going to create chances.”

“It’s going to be one of those games where we have to try to keep it tight, and maybe if we can do that, we can create a couple of chances and catch them by surprise.”

“For a start, it’s going to have to be hard work and concentration. They’ve obviously spent a lot of money on talent, and the squad they’ve got is unbelievable.”

“But we’ll go out there and give it our best shot. We’ll work as hard as we can.”

“And hopefully if we can take confidence from the game against West Ham and take it into the City game, who knows what can happen?”

“It’s game after game at this time of year, and we’ll take the win against West Ham into this run,”

“Hopefully, the confidence will be high now. In the dressing room at West Ham, everyone was buzzing after the game and we’ll be looking to take that into the next run of games and come out with some points.”

“It was a massive win at the weekend.” “We obviously haven’t been on the best of runs of late, and we wanted to get that win so desperately.”

“We know it’s going to be tough against City. They’re an unbelievable side, as they’ve shown all season, but we’ll go out there and give it our best shot.”

“And who knows what can happen? Hopefully, we can be the team that’s going to stop their run.”

Benitez will have Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, and Mikel Merino available for tonight’s’ game although we would like to see Henri Saivet keep his place and be given additional opportunities in the Newcastle first team.

His attitude is just superb and he played really well on Saturday and scored a terrific goal direct from a free kick.

Mo Diame also played very well and admitted after the game that he had not been happy with his previous form this season.

Saivet and Diame dominated the central midfield on Saturday in London.

But that will be difficult tonight, whoever is selected to play in the middle of the park for the Magpies, against some world-class players in the City side.

    Haha Catchy

Here is a poster comparing Rafa and Mitro’s relationship to his own with a ex-supervisor

Didn’t realise you knew them? what role do you have in the club? haha or is all this made of blind assumptions in that little brain of yours?

Posters should stop reacting to this guy, he’s delusional

    Haha resort to name calling

But you still haven’t enlightened everyone with how you personally know Rafa and Mitro and their relationship within the club?

    Legeune or clark?

    Atsu or Murphy?

again my point is to prove we are getting more out of so called championship players than we are out of his summer signings.

Legeune went right down in my estimations when he ducked out of the header to allow Morata to score.

run a poll and ask who thinks there is a problem between them two, and i bet you will find most people with 2 eyes can see it.

and if you are really asking that question, WOW just WOW.

God I love Fray Bentos pies. Only steak and kidney though. I always try to have a sneaky one when the missus is away. Nightmare getting the bloody lid off though – they should really think about updating those for the twenty-first century.

I much prefer Clark to Lejeune for now – we don’t have the luxury of time needed to bed new players into a tough league.

I think Lejeune will become a solid player for us, with better players in front of him and less pressure on him I think he will improve.

Run a poll, with who? the posters on this blog?

They don’t work within the club or know them personally either so I don’t know how you expect that to prove anything

You really are the epitome of the modern football fan, massively delusional, believes everything they hear in the papers, believes they can do a better job than trained experienced professionals and is unbelievable fickle with no ability to reason or see the larger picture

23% think we’ll win?! Clearly still drunk from Christmas then.

I think if we can keep the loss down to three goals or less then that’s an achievement. Man city are a juggernaut, and our weak and under talented squad don’t stand a chance against them. Hell their women’s team would give us a difficult game never mind this team.

Not only did psg sign Neymar but signed Mbappe on loan as well to avoid breaking fair play rules. Baffling!

Good man ibiza. Hibbitt, what’s the problem with catchy feeling mbemba shud play etc? What is it about this blog and rafa that we cannot question him. Rafa will never have Fergie’s récord, so I presume on that basis man u fans would have been exorcised for questioning him?

oh Hibbit Frey i’m loving this one. you are just making yourself look very silly.

no i cannot tell you what the problem that Rafa appears to have with Mitro, not can i tell you why he seems to have a problem with Mbemba or Saviet or Gamez or ginger pirlo, and i’m not the only one to speculate this either,
and why i say Rafa has the problem is because Rafa has the power to select them to play, by he chooses not to, and yes they could have a problem with him, but it would appear that the players seem to be acting more professional about it, as when any one them have appeared on the pitch they seem to me to give 100% and going of what fans think in Ed’s Polls they seem to get a good amount of points. so again i’m not the only one who thinks this.

what i find very strange about the whole thing is, most on here point the finger at Ashley after every loss, lack of investment the no one thing said, then with a weaker team we beat west ham and Rafa gets the credit. it’s a head scratcher.
why do we not win often when a rafa has a full squad of “his better” players to pick from.

This is a football blog, I case you’ve forgotten!

Posting your comments, regarding the working relationship between a manager and a staff member, (Rafa and Mitro,) based simply on your fanciful assumptions, or relating this relationship to your own experience with your own line manager, ( because you were more ‘popular’ than your manager!) beggars belief.

Stick to factual evidence, stop posting your amateur phycologist theories. If you are personally concerned about your popularity status in your work-place, you can request counselling, it may help you in other relationships, (social media for example.)

Why does Rafa have to an have a personal problem with these players? just because he’s not picking them doesn’t mean he has a personal issue but that is what you are suggesting despite no evidence, this is the problem with fans like you, you make stuff up to fit with your narrative.

Rafa is an experienced tactical manager, the reason he doesn’t pick players is likely due to their efforts and performance in training, their attitude towards the rest of their teammates and their ability to fit into his style of play, it’s likely that some managers will sometimes dislike certain players but I doubt it would stop them from playing when there is so much on the line, after all Im sure Rafa would pick Mitro if he thought it would get him a win, everyone in his situation would

Stop making stuff up to fit your narrative, you already look stupid enough
