The Guardian are reporting that Newcastle are after 23-year-old striker Firmin Ndombe Mubele of Rennes in January.
Other Premier League clubs said to be interested in the 43 times capped DR Congo International include West Brom, Swansea, and Bournemouth – all clubs who currently lower in the Premier league than Newcastle.
The player only moved to Rennes in January of this year from Qatari club Al Ahli SC.
He’s played 32 times for Rennes with 8 goals and 3 assists in total including 16 times this season with 5 goals and 2 assists.
The Guardian says the players is rated at around £10M and he has significant speed which is some of what Rafa Benitez is looking for at Newcastle next month.
The players can play on the wing or up-front as an out-and-out striker.
But Newcastle need to bring in some proven goalscorers in the side, and he’s not exactly that.
Benitez may also prefer to bring in players with proven Premier League goalscoring experience like Daniel Sturridge or Danny Ings from Liverpool.
Newcastle have also been linked with a move for 29-year-old Islam Slimani who plays very much like Joselu in that he can hold the ball up and is a target man up front.
But Islam is also an excellent header of the ball.
The big Algerian scores a lot more goals than the Spanish striker and he could be a big success at Newcastle.
We expect Rafa to bring in two strikers next month with Aleksandar Mitrovic likely to leave permanently next month if we can find a buyer.
What do you think?

Comment #241Did someone mention that Southampton would start to spend some of their £75m accrued from selling Dick Van Dyke to the Scousers ? Well looks like some of it might head back to Liverpool as a rebate or loan fees.
Southampton want to bring Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge, 28, to the club on a loan deal until the end of the season. (Telegraph)
And Stoke now have their eye on Ings which Is just down a pit stop down the road on the M6 for him.
Better hope that Charnley has Rafa’s targets already in the bag or they are off the radar of other clubs in the lower half of the League otherwise it’s going to be a familiar transfer window and failure to add to our squad could have dangerous consequences.

You must be on shifts or can’t sleep posting this nonsense.
Anyway my contribution to this nonsense would be bring in Darth Vadar as a midfield enFORCER and put Blair on the bench as he’s undecided on being left or right sided and makes a mess of everything he touches anyway.
Manager and Coach clearly needs to be Ashley and Nero who you need to ask Roma for permission to talk to . They might be flaming mad about it but hey that’s infamy for you.

Comment #245Folks here is a little more depth to what we are looking at in Man City. Have a read, then a quick walk down the Ashley Memory Lane and see if we can compare at all, and what it would take to be able to compare.
It goes way beyond what we are seeing on the pitch, it has been going on for a while. I’ve been hearing they are pressing Pep to sign a 10 year deal involving much more than just managing football related stuff.
I don’t know who our prospective new owners are but in the best case scenario I bloody hope they have much more than buckets of money to throw. If we are to compete against the top clubs, they need to have a plan and expertise on top of pure Abramovich style ambition!

Comment #246Brilliant article Kevin, and it ties in with Saudi king to be MbS’s vision 2030, which, and I quote:-
Living healthy, being healthy
A healthy and balanced lifestyle is an essential mainstay of a high quality of life. Yet opportunities for the regular practice of sports have often been limited. This will change. We intend to encourage widespread and regular participation in sports and athletic activities, working in partnership with the private sector to establish additional dedicated facilities and programs. This will enable citizens and residents to engage in a wide variety of sports and leisure pursuits. We aspire to excel in sport and be among the leaders in selected sports regionally and globally.

Hopefully MbS’s thinking (and he makes the Mansours look like paupers), is similar to Globalisation aspirations of Citeh’s.
We can only hope, imaging having the iconic black and white stripes as the top teams on each continent, a constant supply line of new talent, already trained in “The Toon way”, hell we can already start with buying up the clubs around the world already called Newcastle.
IF this is his plan – and I firmly believe it is – then the Toon fans/supporters wondering why the takeover will take another few weeks thinking that is a negative is laughable.
Open your eyes to the big picture guys, this is the future.

like yourself i’m 100 % sure this deal is in place but i can see why so many people are having doubts and are getting so frustrated as the days pass
i have no doubts it’s going to happen but till it does the key word is patience. when the window opens we will get the first indication of the kind/price of players Rafa is going after till then we just have to wait and be patient

Comment #252Indeed hibbit, when Citeh wanted Pep, Pep replied he wanted a year off, they said OK, we’ll come back in a year, then pep wanted to do 3 years at bayern first, Citeh said fine, we’ll come back after that. And they did, the rest, as they say, is history.
I didn’t realise Pep is the only manager ever to win all 6 of the trophies available to one club in a year. Wow.

Comment #253what’s the point in saying Rafa has a cheap championship squad and then linking us to cheap championship players? everyone of you rafa clappers complain he has no quality to work with and yet boom we are linked with a 10 million pound striker who hasn’t really set the french league alive.
playing the numbers game how is a 10M striker meant to beat a 75M defender ?
what value will a 10 M striker add to our squad?
surely at this stage of the season every player being brought in should be a nufc record breaking player that walks straight into the first team.
10 M is nothing for the most important part of the team.
10 M is what you pay for a kid these days to fit in your squad and develop.
how can anyone be happy with this?

You don’t do yourself any favours man. Your reasoning is frequently so flawed it’s laughable. Be honest man, are you on a long winded wind up?
You link simple ten a penny media speculation here about a player we are supposedly interested (but probably aren’t) to ‘Rafa clappers’ – no idea what point you are trying to make.
