We have lost five home games in a row, and it’s the worst we have done at home since way back in 1953 – which is one year after we had won two FA Cups in a row and we would win another one two years later.
But with also losing 8 of the previous 9 games before we won last Saturday at West Ham these are not records Rafa Benitez wants at Newcastle.
But such is the craziness of owner Mike Ashley – he has managed to turn a very favorable situation back in early May into what seems to be yet another relegation battle for Newcastle this season.
Rafa Benitez – we can do well
But we have Brighton, Stoke, and Swansea as our next three league games, and if we can win those three games things will very quickly be looking up at Newcastle.
This is what Rafa Benitez has said about the upcoming games:
“I think it is an opportunity to do well.”
“If we want to stay in the Premier League we know that we have to get results against these teams close to you.”
“We have to approach it with confidence that we will do well but if we don’t, we have to go again against Stoke to win.”
“We need to be sure that we are calm. We know our level and we know that we can really compete and we have to try and win these games.”
“Some games are more winnable than others.”
“We have lost some games 1-0. Brighton was an example. At Brighton we lost because they blocked on a free-kick.”
“They do the same on corners. They block. A foul and a free kick.”
“The margin is very close. Little things, little details can make a huge difference.”
“I want to make sure my team has the opportunity in the last half an hour, and are still in it to compete.”
“I am really pleased with the comments of the players when you talk with them in the dressing room or when we are training.”
“The reaction and the feeling after the West Ham game – which was very difficult for us.”
“And then the reaction on the pitch and after the game against Man City, so we are in a very good mood now.”
“We have to confirm that by winning against Brighton. Of course, it is football and you cannot guarantee anything.”
“At least what I say is we are doing everything, competing and making sure we are there.”
