Five Changes – Manquillo, Murphy, Shelvey, Perez, Diame All Start At Stoke City

Rafa Benitez has just named his side to start at Stoke City this afternoon in a game between two sides fighting relegation this season.

Newcastle are 5th bottom of the league and Stoke are 6th bottom, just one point above Newcastle.

Jopnjo Shelvey and Mo Diame come back into the engine room of the side for today’s tough game.

We still haven’t seen Henri Saivet even on the bench after his good performance in the 3-2 win at West Ham a week last Saturday – that’s strange.

Manquillo comes in at left back for Paul Dummett and Murphy and Ritchie are the two wingers.

It looks like Perez may be playing up front in place of Joselu who is on the bench.

We only put this poll out this morning – it looks like as many fans think we will lose this game as win it.

How Will Newcastle Fare At Stoke City

We really need a win against teams like Stoke but we are finding hard to get wins with only one in the last 12 games – surely things have to improve?

That’s true isn’t it?

There are quite a few players in that Stoke squad could have been playing for Newcastle by now. Not a bad team on paper, but they are not playing for Hughes, so…

I hate to sound too optimistic but let’s say it’s an interesting selection?
Looks like Ritchie asNo 10which I think is a positive and plenty of pace down the flanks. Perez on his own up front can be no better or worse than previously so yes I’m mildly optimistic.

It is giving me a headache trying to figure out how the 3 wingers fit into the side. It would be interesting to see any out of Atsu, Murphy, or Ritchie playing number 10. Murphy at #10 is my guess.

To be fair to Ayoze, he perhaps had his best run for us playing as a loan striker during his debut season.

I really like this team. For me Perez has always been best when played up top as the lad can finish and works hard. Richie if at no10 is the best we have in that position in my opinion. Really looking forward to this now.

If I had to make a prediction, it would be a penalty
for Stoke due to Clark holding on to Crouch.

Guessing Murphy will be playing just behind Perez. Not a bad looking pairing for me.

This team selection has surprised me is a good manner. I was desperately waiting to not see Perez’s name on the team sheet. But i am really optimistic of a very good result given that he is playing in a strikers role.
To be honest, Perez has more goals playing as a lone striker in PL than Joselu. I guess this team sheet is more than enough to beat Stoke.

I guess Murphy, Atsu and Ritchie could rotate positions during the game. All have played both wings for us (I believe).

A big part of our issue, due to lack of options (imo), is we become extremely predictable. Perhaps this could help counter that predictability.

Read that somewhere, recently. (I think, could have been in a Xmas cracker,)

Well none of those forwards (possible exception of Perez) can head a ball properly. Mixture of short arses, folk with corners on their heads or who just cannot get off the ground.
Must indicate no hoof ball – but nippy attacks by our dwarf players -who will hopefully be able to outwit Stokes poor defence.
3 -1 win to the Toon.

Well at least Perez should be fresh enough. He’s gonna need to hold the ball up at times, good luck with that.
Script written for Joselu after his chances missed against them at home. Comes on after 70mins and buries Hughes at the Brittania.
    I can still dream…

    Any links on that TyneMouth?

All I could find is a quote from the City game

On Saivet, Benitez added: “We’re not resting anyone. I was trying to win this game with the players I thought were the best.”

I can see the logic of fast small players against their big defence but we are going to be struggling for markers if they get a free kick or corner!

Ed does say where the team is listed and does mention changes but never actually lists the team in full, so the answer to your question is No!
