The Predicted Team To Start At Stoke City Today

This is our fourth game in the last nine days so some Newcastle players could be weary.

In the last three games, we have taken 4 points, so that’s not too bad, given our previous poor results.

If we can top it off with a win this afternoon at Stoke that would be great!

Rob Elliot, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Jesus Gamez and Florian Lejeune are still injured and will not play today.

Rafa Benitez – doing calisthenics on the touchline

And Rafa must make some changes to the side that played only two days ago.

Here’s the team that could start the game this afternoon:

Yedlin Lascelles (c) Clark Dummett
Shelvey Diame
Ritchie Perez Murphy

That’s four changes to the side that drew 0-0 against Brighton on Saturday.

The defense is unchanged, and that could be the best defense we can put out with Paul Dummett finally back and gives us some balance at left-back.

We expect Diame to start to add some height and power to the Newcastle team against a physical Stoke side.

But looking at that starting eleven, we don’t see many goals with Dwight Gayle not in.

What would your team be for today and what formation would you play?

Another clean sheet is important today as goal difference could well be what keeps us up this season.
So, no change to the defence.
Shelvey and Hayden to start in midfield, with Ritchie, Gayle, Atsu and Joselu, hopefully netting a few.

Actually don’t think Dummett helps the dynamic at all. He’s used to better players in front either to cover him or receive his hopeful non-sighted long punts.

Happy New Year. What will 2018 bring.
Perhaps relegation. If so just remember that poem by Kipling ( not the fella who makes the cakes ). Triumph and disaster we’ll treat those two imposters just the same.
We would grace the Championship as we have the prevoius two times and if the present owner goes we would be a proper club again and have some dignity.
It’s been the fate of Leeds, Forrest, Sheff Wed, Derby and others. Some of the biggest clubs in English football over the years.
As for most of the last 60 years we would be the club with everything apart from the right owner.
If there is no Sheik and no take over we will take that as well.
Born Toon, we live the Toon, we will die the Toon.
We will still be here when a certain Michael James Wallace Ashley has done one, however and whenever that may be.

Hopefully we’ll know this week what the future holds with regards to the takeover, if we actually start to sign some decent players.

Transfer window 9hrs 40 minutes old and not a scooby – could this be what we are in for until 31st Jan
No one in – 2 or 3 out
    No take-over

Dummett is a strange one indeed.

I am one of his biggest critics as I don’t know how a player has made it so far with so little technical skill however defensively he is really solid. Manquillo is obviously better going forward (still not great) but is so poor defensively especially in tracking runners that I think I would have to go with Dummett.

The winger on the left side needs to stand up and realise he is responsible for getting at his man an attacking and giving it to Dummett is not the answer. I don’t know how many times Atsu passed it to Dummett when he only had one man in front of him (I did post my frustration but nobody could see it haha). Our winger needs to be on form on that side and it would work out ok for now but if he isn’t we will have a weak left side offensively (like we have had for seasons tbh).

With the way of the football world these days it’s not difficult to think that the controlling money men in their secret hideaway are setting up their Elite European League with the cooperation of Sky and other “global partners”

That means a F1 style franchise of brands that are only invited to join if they meet certain criteria.

Super stadia ( Spurs are building, Chelsea set to redevelop , Liverpool have rebuilt, Arsenal, City , Manure, etc already there)

Fan base of 50,000 plus Chinese tourists to sell merchandise to

    Uber rich owners

Probably a maximum of eight English “brands” invited so top six plus Everton and Newcastle if they meet the criteria.

We end up with the football equivalent of Bernie Eccleston dictating our stadium needs and a City Council enviously eyeing up SJP to build some monstrously badly designed tower blocks designed by wannabe architects for their Science Park and student world flats project.

    Something fishy in the air.

There is nowt wrong with Dummet he keeps us solid at the back which is what we need, he is just back from a long term injury and his forward play will improve with game time and fitness.

That’s the spirit. New year and all that. Always look on the bright side, if your corn flakes don’t choke you.

    Mag 52

Not sure how many times now. AP was / is a s–t manager who had Tiote, cabaye, Cisse, HBA, BA, Krul all in their prime and he was still s–t most of the time. RB has who exactly who is PL standard? Even Brighton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield have got 15 / 20M + players. The answer is no one, except maybe Lascelles on a very good day and Merino in a few years perhaps.

I know you don’t pay a lot of attention to actual details and facts, but we are not in the bottom 3, yet and we did actually beat WHU away.

For all those saying Mitro is the saviour, it all seems to be very quiet on offers coming in for him.

lochinver – that’s the way things are going, and that’s why the big money boys want us. For NUFC, if we aren’t in that group of 8 or so, then all revenues will dry up as no-one will pay to watch the matches when they can see Barca – v PSG etal

We needed this takeover to happencos without it we’ll be nothing in the global scheme of things.

Having Dummet and Diame is a bit negative. Double indemnity. With that pair and no Gayle, where are the goals going to come from? Richie better play a blinder in this line up because corners are our only hope.

yeah agreed there, its the way its going, super European elite clubs in there own league, we need grass roots teams though its been our way through out the decades and when that goes we could probably wave goodbye to the England team not producing top class players will make things a lot worse in the future don’t think they see that though do they
