Pundit Finally Gets Unbreakable Bond Between Rafa And Fans – He’s A Champions League Winner – They Are Proper Fans

Newcastle had a vital win yesterday to make it 7 points from our last four games, and we continue to beat those in the lower half of the table – and that’s one way we can keep in the Premier League this season.

Most pundits have had a go at Newcastle and at Rafa Benitez this season – so what’s new?

They have to criticize somebody and something to earn their money.

But for once we have a pundit – BBC 5Live’s Pat Murphy (now there’s a good old Irish name for you) – who seems to understand the very close bond between Rafa Benitez and the Newcastle fans.

Rafa Benitez – on the sideline at Stoke

If he can do that and we get new owners in – which seems likely – then things will be really buzzing at Newcastle in the months ahead.

And especially this summer when we expect some outstanding players to be signed.

And why Rafa did the unthinkable 18 months ago and stayed with us even after we were relegated to the Championship.

Pat Murphy – BBC 5Live pundit

Not there’s some commitment to Newcastle United!

Rafa brought us straight back up, and after not getting the players he wanted last summer it will be a huge success if he can keep us in the Premier League this season.

That’s if we can stay up.

BBC 5Live’s Pat Murphy covered the game yesterday, which turned out to be an excellent 1-0 win for us, and this is what he said about Rafa and the Newcastle supporters:

“They love Rafa Benitez anyway. Their fans are fantastic. They play in front of 50,000 plus at home and Benitez is very, very good with the crowd.”

“He is the star, more than any of their players on their payroll. Benitez is the man who will keep them up. He got them up last year, he’s a terrific manager.”

“He’s a Champions League winner,  for heaven’s sake.”

“That’s why the Geordie fans love him so much. He’s batting below, if you like, his average, he’s that good.”

“He should be at a bigger club than Newcastle – although Newcastle’s potential is fantastic, of course, it is.”

“I think any fair-minded football fan will hope the takeover goes ahead and Rafa Benitez gets the money he deserves.”

“Because apart from one or two coded messages he’s kept his head down and orchestrated a very, very important victory at Stoke.”

“It’s a classic example of someone who respects the fans – as he did at Liverpool, and Liverpool fans love him as well.”

“It’s a long way back from the Potteries to Newcastle but I’m delighted for them as an objective football reporter.”

“They are proper football fans.”

Great words there from Pat Murphy.

The thing we like about Rafa is when he talks about what he wants to do in the future he sounds exactly like a fan – he wants everything the fans want – namely a very successful football team at a very well run club.

And the facilities and infrastructure that top clubs in Europe have.

Now we need Mike Ashley to fund Rafa Benitez in this transfer window and the owner needs to move quickly to do that.

Comments welcome.

And I just missed the bus again! 🙂

Watched the Sky highlights and re. the Murphy pass, it turned out to be a great cross but I reckon it was a hit and hope, mainly cos he didn’t look up to see if there was anyone following up in the middle. Still worked out good for us and I aint complaining. Don’t think he’s going to be an automatic starter at present but I reckon he’ll get there

I’m wondering if Diame’s twin brother has turned up for us as the present version looks to be a different player compared to some of the stuff we’ve had from him in the past. Just hope he stays and keeps up the new look him.

Watching the game In real time I was very critical of Diame, perhaps it’s engrained, but looking at the stats and highlights he put a shift in.

Perhaps I shouldn’t be so hard??

Apart from Micky Quinn, the rest of the ex pro pundit community on Sky and Talksport don’t rate the team or the fans. Neither does Ashley and his PR Machine for that matter!

It’s all good, we can use that to our advantage, creating that siege mentality, which only strengthens that bond between Rafa, the fans and the players.

The pundits always under estimate our fans – they still think the majority of us are cloth cap wearing miners whereas in reality the majority of us are professional, intelligent people. Yes Rafa makes some frustrating team selections and substitutions but most of us know he is working wonders with the squad he has at his disposal and that is why we stick with him (except for one or two on here) especially after he stuck with us after relegation.

Just watched a French season review and I feel like crying watching Thauvin. He has more technical ability in his little toe than any of our current players and I’m sure will end up at a major club for huge money. ?

Nezza – i do hope your right but the theory it’s done and we are not saying anything in case other clubs hike up the price is more of a machiavellian theory / hope than a reality

I don’t think for 1 minute we could go out and real Everton for Cenk Tosun if we had been taken over.

We would only have to bid 1 Million more and it would be accepted by besiktas

It’s sounds like a great idea but I think the reality is Ashley still holds the purse strings , we are in negotiations, and we will only get loans in (if Ashley remains in January)

I know it’s early but if it was pcp/ rich owner then we would have a few lined up as soon as the window was open

Thauvin wanted away, Rafa was told he had to sell and reduce the payroll costs before he could buy. So, among others and Thauvin’s showing promise – in the French league, not the Prem. Had Ashley not been so tight, there was the possibility that Thauvin could’ve been moaned out.

    Hello everyone,

I have been reading this blog and the comments for years but this is my first comment; I just wanted to say Happy New Year to you all and that, despite the odd squabble, this is the best place for getting NUFC news. Thank you firstly to Ed Harrison who clearly dedicates much of his time and effort to this blog. Secondly, to all the passionate Geordies across the globe who contribute their opinions. I look forward to discussing and debating all things NUFC with you lot soon.

    Peace, Love and Ashley’s a C***,

    Matt

Taken a long time to step up to the plate – but in the last three games he has started looks like the player he was at Hull and West Ham.
Need him playing well with his power and ball carrying as we have no one else at the minute

You’ve hit the nail on the head when you say it’s mainly the ex-player pundits who are the main Rafa critics. Add to them the trouble-making headline-seeking morons employed by Murdoch’s media outlets and you have the full set.

Manx, please skip this post. On Ritchie, I think he’s just not up to it in this league. Good at dead ball delivery, hits the occasional good cross from open play, and chases about a lot (also very good at pointing). Not fast, doesn’t beat his man, just looks to come inside and shoot; short, slow. In the championship, where many teams sat deeper against us, he could cut inside from more advanced positions and be more in range with his shooting. People remember his song/assists/goals and IMO hold a falsely high view of his abilities. I don’t think he has lost any form, we just haven’t scored any more from corners. If he really is the player many on here think he is, then Bournemouth would have never sold him.
His cutting inside and shooting is what really winds me up. Lost count of the times he’s tried and he’s yet to score (yes, I know he hit the post). I can recall two of these situations when the simplest of passes was on, to have created a one on one chance.
To sum up, just not got the attributes for a successful winger in the premier league, Bournemouth knew this. Don’t dislike him, got a bit of fight about him, not the worst player in the team, but if we want to stay in this league, he’s a player who gets replaced.

And frim the previous thread relating to the mooted takeover:

    Ed

I’m sorry but with respect, I don’t follow your reasoning that safety’ll seal the proposed take over.

Ashley’s still owner and I don’t think he’ll sanction any significant spending this window. You can bet your boots that if he did spend some serious money, he’d increase his asking price and if PCP won’t pay it, he’ll take the club off the market. He certainly wouldn’t spend and accept the current PCP offer – even without the reported relegation clause.

If PCP really want the club they need to seek a mutually face-saving deal that’ll be a win-win for both parties.

If Ashley is desperate to sell, he’s not showing it.

To be fair to Thauvin he gave an
interview on Canal Plus to Ginola
where he said his head wasn’t in
the right place when he came to NUFC.
That he’s as much to blame as anyone.

It gives the lie to folk who said
Graham Carr was a bad judge of a player.

Well I hope Pat Murphys positive words make up for same of the rafa criticism I posted recently! Good on you rafa, I just hope we can see more stuff like West Ham away. I keep banging on about Leicester and was watching them again last night t check on Slimani – lovely football on the grass, pace all over. I have a baaad feeling rafa aint gonna see any funds though. He will have to shift Mitro ( pity, still worth a chance but I aint the manager) to pay for the wages of loanees. Shocking stuff. Give the man some money Fats ffs!!!!
