Alan Shearer started the New Year by saying that he hopes the takeover happens – and that’s what all Newcastle fans are hoping and praying for right now.
If that happens soon and with our uptick in form of late, things could be rosy again for Newcastle, and we now need only six wins in our final 16 games to get to 40 points and almost guaranteed safety from the drop.
If we do have to beat the bottom teams to do that – so be it – but Rafa wants to win every game he manages, and he always has a game plan to do that.
And remember – with a little bit of luck – we could even have had a draw at home to Manchester City – we weren’t a million miles away from getting something out of that game.
Mike Ashley and Ms. Amanda Staveley
This is what Alan Shearer said when he was asked by Coral about the potential Newcastle takeover:
“That’s what everyone hopes and if you’re a Newcastle fan, that is what needs to happen because this has been dragging on for a while now.”
“Mike Ashley has made it clear he wants to sell and doesn’t want to be at Newcastle, so the sooner it happens the better for everyone connected to Newcastle.”
“There’s no doubt about it, Mike Ashley needs to go and a new owner needs to come in and give funds to Rafa Benitez to spend in January.”
“I always expected it to be a long hard season,” “That is what it is turning out to be, so Benitez needs to get players in January.”
It doesn’t look like new funds will be available from the prospective new owners this month – but Mike Ashley MUST give Rafa some funds to ensure we remain a Premier League club,
From Ashley’s viewpoint that will help to protect his investment of about £263M in Newcastle United.
In the Big Toon survey conducted by the Chronicle last month, 96% thought Rafa was the right man to lead Newcastle forward as the manager.
As for Mike Ashley, over 96% did not want Mike Ashley to stay on as the owner of the club.
So it’s clear what Newcastle fans want – new owners in the form of lead negotiator Ms. Amanda Staveley and her PCP Capital Partners Group, who has said she will support Rafa in the transfer market and wants to make Newcastle great again.
And maybe once we get six more wins and are safe in the Premier League, Amanda Staveley should be able to do the deal knowing that Newcastle will be a Premier League club next season.
But most fans want that to happen as soon as possible – it’s typical Mike Ashley stuff – things are dragging on with nothing much happening.
Mike Ashley needs to sell the club, and then it will be Upward and Onward.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #1Unfortunately Ed there is a way back for Ashley as he is the owner therefore still holds the aces, as much as it urks us…
PCP need to get on with it if they are to keep the public on their side, because a protracted take over helps no one..

Comment #2Who are the 4% who do want Ashely to stick around? Sunderland fans? Or Ashely himself getting in on the vote. Suppose Pardew might have voted for MA to stick around in the hope he’ll get another job when the Baggies sack him at the end of the season.

Fantastic win at stoke and we have climbed the table (great for the fans but great for Ashley )
Ashley still here and calling the shots via Charnley
Scrapping around for loans
Ashley rubbing his hands at 13th – he loves a gamble
If we stay in and around this position , pcp need go step up the offer if not Ashley will sit on his fat hands

Comment #7We will soon find out what the plan is, if we buy a player for 20 million plus the takeover is in the bag.
2 loans and Big Mike is still behind the wheel.

Comment #12It would be suicidal to sell your captain and lynchpin defender at this stage. You’d have to not only get big money but have it released in time for replacement. It would be a first.

Comment #15At last I feel like I have common ground with Ashley.
He wants to sell, I want him to sell
He wants to leave quickly, he couldn’t leave quickly enough for me.
It’s only taken 10 years for some common ground, I hope the door doesn’t smack him in the back of his head on his way out.

You couldn’t be more wrong on that subject, just because Rafa brings in 2 loans doesn’t mean Ashley is staying, it simply means Rafa is being smart about the transfers and not becoming a cheque book manager as all owners dispise when first buying the club.

Comment #18Let’s get 1 thing straight, Rafa won’t be buying over priced players because he has the funding of the new owners, both will be looking for future progress so the smart way would be after the season has finished to make better purchases and improve the squad significantly.
This window is about survival and adding more experience quality to the squad, Rafa brought in Merino on a loan deal and is now purchased for what 6 million? This is what the new owners want to see because Merino has been our best player this season and he’s only getting better.
Don’t expect wonder players coming through the doors unless they jave the same ambition as Rafa and the new owners.

Comment #19Not sure what the problem is.
If they want to invest big in he club … they are haggling over 50m that’s about 2/3 of a decent full back at current prices.
Get on with it.

Not saying it won’t be done or might not get done in the future , but it’s not done yet that’s for sure (we 100% would have seen a few decent signings 15m/20m if it was ) and a few very good loans
Ashley will want 350 Million if we win a few more

It’s only the 2nd January, already we have all the media, pundits and now fans expecting players just to come through the door ASAP! It simply doesn’t work that way.
Rafa has his list and it will take time to get players in with us still in a relegation battle regardless of the win.

Ahh that’s a bugger, the chap seemed so certain ha!
If it wasn’t for those last couple of worldwide saves by Darlow I’d have had Lascelles as MoM .. read every challenge and was rock solid!!
Also agree with the Ritchie criticism however let’s not forget he was one of best players early season, everyone has a quiet period!!

Comment #24I still believe the deal is done but the new owners will be announced after the window as other clubs as we all know are greedy when it comes to billionaires with money to spend.
This window as I stated a few days ago will be the one that answers our question as in who is in control but again Rafa or the club will not announce the funding, again unless the new owners make an appearance before hand.

Comment #26Situations like the Kennedy deal will postpone potential deals for us and it’s been said by many people it can be tough to get players in – in January.
But time will tell though.

Comment #27Am I missing something? Surely the more we look like we will avoid relegation, the easier will be the negotiations between PCP and Ashley? Arguing over relegation / survival payments will become less of an issue. For those of you who say that if survival looks likely Ashley will want to stay to cash in, of course you can never trust him, but when he announced that he wanted to sell, I’m sure it was before our big slide towards the drop zone. If we assume that he did want to sell when he announced it, and also that PCP are keen on buying the club, then the less the relegation threat, the more attractive the club becomes.
Of course I’ve not discussed funding the January window – another big issue.

Comment #282 loan deals in Kennedy and ings (or someone better like Batsy)
A quality number 10 and a workhorse winger ( probably be right footed) who cal also play an inside forward role on both sides and a goal scorer striker with experience.
Could be enough to keep us up and move forward.

Comment #29Watched the Sky highlights and re. the Murphy pass, it turned out to be a great cross but I reckon it was a hit and hope, mainly cos he didn’t look up to see if there was anyone following up in the middle. Still worked out good for us and I aint complaining. Don’t think he’s going to be an automatic starter at present but I reckon he’ll get there
I’m wondering if Diame’s twin brother has turned up for us as the present version looks to be a different player compared to some of the stuff we’ve had from him in the past. Just hope he stays and keeps up the new look him.

I’m sorry but with respect, I don’t follow your reasoning that safety’ll seal the proposed take over.
Ashley’s still owner and I don’t think he’ll sanction any significant spending this window. You can bet your boots that if he did spend some serious money, he’d increase his asking price and if PCP won’t pay it, he’ll take the club off the market. He certainly wouldn’t spend and accept the current PCP offer – even without the reported relegation clause.
If PCP really want the club they need to seek a mutually face-saving deal that’ll be a win-win for both parties.
If Ashley is desperate to sell, he’s not showing it.

Comment #36Wouldn’t be surprised if Ashley still has the club at end of season. We have seen it all before remember the fiasco of “we have 4 acceptable offers on table”. Ashley has lied to all his previous managers including Kev & Shearer why does anyone think this is any different? I hate the man
