The news from Spain is that Real Madrid are all set to pay the €20M release clause in Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s contract.
He will become a free agent in the summer, but Real want him in during the winter transfer window so he can immediately compete with Keylor Navas for the number one jersey.
That’s now likely to happen according to Madrid publication Marca, and that could make Kiko Casilla available this month – since he will drop down to number 3 goalkeeper at Madrid.
Marca are reporting that Newcastle went after Casilla in the summer, but Real would not sell, and the report is that if Newcastle return for him in January, he will be allowed to leave the club.
Rafa Benitez signed Casilla in the summer of 2015 when he was the Real Madrid manager, and he seems to rate the goalkeeper highly.

He also wants a new first team goalkeeper in the ranks which would allow young Freddie Woodman to go out on loan.
Kepa (full name Kepa Arrizabalaga Revuelta) is 23 years old, and one of Spain’s top young goalkeepers and could be in the Spanish squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.
Casilla is 31 years old and started his career at Real Madrid and is well liked at Madrid and the feeling is they would allow him to leave for Newcastle if Rafa comes calling this month.
The news in Marca is that both Real Madrid and the player himself would be willing to sign for Newcastle if the world-class Spanish manager goes after the goalkeeper.
Kiko has played 36 times for the Real Madrid first team and once for Spain.
