Newcastle Miss Out On Top Transfer Target – Another Target Looks Doubtful

Danny Ings was one of our top striker targets this month but news today that Liverpool manager wants to keep the striker at Liverpool and says that Danny will get some playing time through the end of the season.

It seems like Ings also wants to stay at the Reds to try to get into the first team and show the Liverpool manager what he can do for the side.

So that’s one player we will not get on loan in January.

Our other top striker target is Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, but Watford coach Marco Silva also wants him at the Hornets.

Silva could provide an advantage for Watford over Newcastle in his bid to sign the big Algerian striker.

Danny Ings – staying at Liverpool this season

Slimani played for Marco Silva when he managed Sporting Lisbon for one season from 2014 to 2015.

In that season Sporting finished 3rd in the Championship, and also won the Taca de Portugal by beating S.C. Braga 3–1 on penalties after a 2–2 draw in the final.

In that season Slimani scored 15 goals in 33 games for Sporting Lisbon.

It could be that Silva even signs Slimani on a permanent deal which is what Leicester want.

Who would have thought smaller clubs like Watford, West Brom, Stoke, Bournemouth, Swansea, Crystal Palace and others would have more financial clout than Newcastle?

It’s currently a sad state of affairs.

But on the positive side of things – come the summer and if we remain in the Premier League and Amanda Staveley finally buys the club – then things will definitely be looking up at Newcastle.

That’s the hope at Newcastle.

Ed…that’s because those running these clubs have more financial clout than the one running Newcastle!

Our Toon, home or away, we’re still a Championship team, West Ham aren’t. Come the end of the season, let’s see what not getting battered does for our position. Our GD is better than most around us. Fact. That might be the difference between going down or staying up. Back the gaffer, he knows football.

I watched Armstrong at an FA Youth tournament back in 2011, he was unreal and 2 levels above the rest with clubs including Man City and Chelsea U15’s. He got player of the tournament and top scorer.

Really hope he can make it with us, he could be a better version of Gayle with a bit of time in his position in a better team. Merino and Shelvey would have a field day with his runs and pure pace.

Beginning to think this whole takeover is just bo***x.
If it were serious we would have had money given to Rafa by now one way or another. The transfer clock is ticking and our wonderful owner is still out of the country. You couldn’t make it up.
Ashley may go down in history as the man who finally killed Newcastle United.

I’m not holding my breath for a takeover I don’t know nothing no inside information I just can’t see it happening the deal appears iffy to me. I’ll keep supporting newcastle n the team manager but I don’t have high hopes for us.

If funds were really being injected Barkley for £15 mill would look like a great signing. Wonder how much Chelsea will be paying him.

As much as i would appreciate a good cup run, our squad is not capable of winning it, i think this season has and will always be about staying in this league. People saying its 5 days in and there has been no business, compare that to other clubs Jan window has and always will be slow.

Just looking at Ings’ Wikipedia page, and it was four seasons ago when he had that one OK season, getting 11 premier league goals. Also says he got 5 of those in six matches about this time four years ago. After missing 2.5 years through injury I wouldn’t have bet on him getting back to his best, or even getting back onto the pitch that often. Maybe by next year he’ll be OK if he stays fit. I’d rather take a risk on Sturridge if it was between these two.

If we’re looking for big strong strikers who can hold it up etc, then so is every other team in England these days. Maybe we should buck the trend and go for a Torres in his prime type.

On a different day we might well have knicked a point. Bottom line is West ham got a point and we didn’t. I had no issues with how we played for the past 60mins. I did have an issue with shooting from the halfway line and essentially retreating. Citeh on a better day created enough as spurs did yesterday to win by 3 or more.
