Rafa’s Calm Demeanour Even Though No Transfer Funds Available – Does He Know Something?

We were hoping to hear some good news about the January transfer window at Rafa’s press conference this afternoon – but we did not hear any.

It’s still the same in that Rafa did hold a transfer meeting last week with the Newcastle hierarchy – assume it was with Mike Ashley on the phone and Lee Charnley.

But he is still waiting for news coming back from Mike Ashley – such as how much will he be allowed to spend in this transfer window.

Rafa Benitez – cool, calm and collected today

Here are some comments Rafa made relating to  transfers this month:

“I don’t know exactly what is our budget, so I don’t have any news. “We have to keep working and try to make sure we have our targets, because I don’t know.”

“I have to prepare the team. “We had a meeting last week and had conversations, and I’m waiting now for news.”

“We had the meeting, talking about options targets, and I am waiting for the numbers. I can’t say nothing, no more.”

“We don’t talk about names. At the moment, we don’t have any movement so we are waiting.”

Rafa seemed very relaxed in his demeanor this afternoon given the current confused situation, so we wonder if he knows something we don’t.

Such as the takeover may be close to happening and he doesn’t want to upset the apple cart.

The manager cannot be pleased with the way things have been handled in the last month leading up to the opening of the transfer window.

But he seems remarkably calm and confident given he didn’t like what happened last summer and last  January in the previous two transfer windows – and let everybody know it.

It’s wishful thinking yes – but we hope something is about to give, and that Amanda Staveley can agree on terms to buy the club and quickly too.

Rafa needs some funds from somebody to strengthen the squad before the end of this month.

Rafa is being a little disingenuous about
    the game tomorrow.

In seven days time we have a 6 pointer vs
    Swansea at SJP.

This is way more important than Luton
    tomorrow.

He will not risk a key player getting knacked
off of some League Two clogger

If Barkly has gone to Chelsea, can Rafa please persuade Fabregas to come to us for the rest of the season.

Ed he didn’t say there are no transfer funds available, he said he doesn’t know what the budget is. AND he still has a target list. 😉

I don’t think Hibbit is attention seeking, he wouldn’t steal Welshies crown.

    Pot kettle springs to mind.

Just a thought….. IF Rafa does know what’s going on why doesn’t he say
“I hope to get some players in before the end of the window” as he knows nothing realistically will happen inbetween now and 15th/20th ???

We aren’t going to sign anyone before Monday so that leaves 7 days up until the 15th or 12 days until 20th

    Rafa’s secret transfer list:

    Michy Batshuayi – ST
    Lucas Moura – RW
    Javier Pastore – AMC
    Kiko Casilla – GK
    Juan Bernat – LB

Maybe that is why is trying to hide a smile 😉

It’s probably because he has to sell before he can buy and he hasn’t sold anyone yet.

    That’s my theory anyway.

No way would a business guru of Amanda Staveley’s calibre give an exclusive to the BBC for such a significant announcement as the acquisition of NUFC. Surely that would be a major press conference to the worlds media.
If I’m wrong then all I can say is yippee.

I don’t think we will sign anyone or even bring anyone’s in on loan.
Both nowadays cost money signings and loans you have to pay wages and even a fee for some loanees

Newcastle United have hit a stumbling block in their pursuit of Watford’s Troy Deeney as the club are demanding £20million for the striker, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper claim that while the Hornets will listen to offers for Deeney, the Magpies will find his transfer fee and his £70,000-a-week wages a problem.

And Watford have said that they don’t want to sell the 29year old.

    Thank goodness.
