Freddie Woodman Makes Debut Against Luton Town In Very Strong Side

Manager Rafa Benitez has just announced his team for the home tie against Luton Town at St. James’ Park this afternoon.

Luton currently have 54 points from their 26 games and are 4 points ahead of Notts County at the top of League Two.

Freddie Woodman makes a deserved debut today for Newcastle today in what is a very strong side.

With Newcastle’s next game being next Saturday we thought Rafa would field a strong side following his comemnts yesterday at his press conference.

Freddie Woodman – makes debut for Newcastle today

Here’s what Rafa said about Luton Town in his press conference yesterday:

This is what Rada has said about Luton at his press conference:

“We will try to win this game and see if we can progress.”

“We have experience in the cups in England, and every game is difficult. You cannot go into any game with overconfidence.”

“We are playing against a good, well-organized team with lots of confidence so we cannot underestimate them.”

Three fans in four think we can win this game this afternoon – it would be another very welcome win if we can do that.

Benitez was not joking about putting a strong side out. That is probably the strongest 11 available.

BUT.. perez and gayle cant play together it just doesn’t work!! Then again it is a league 2 side. rather keep atsu and perez as that was the first link up in a long time that worked well last game

I see the two Lee boys are not the only sons of ex toon players involved in todays action. Andy Coles son Devante is currently trying to score against Liecester for Fleetwood. Anyone know of any more?

Great to see woodman get game time. Jail I was only winding u up ré rafa, but there is no way his name wud be drawn to the top euro clubs now. Not that that’s a terrible thing but perspective needed as usual. If arsenal got him, there would be war. We are lucky to have him but I would hope that we would look to a younger coach in a short few years, if Amanda comes. Rafa for president, but some hot European coach as manager.

i would say winning back to back la liga titles with valencia and breaking the barca – real stranglehold was even better or as good as winning the CL, UEFA cup and Europa league. SAF proved that at much older than 57 you’re not ready for the scrapheap. If Amanda comes in I would think Rafa would be all guns blazing to show what he can still do.

On another matter re – Beardo, my all time favourite player and he comes over well but you do have to wonder why we don’t produce anyone.

Not the starting striker partnership, but the Stoke goal came only when Gayle came on for Atsu…..not that he had much to do with it.

hope AYOZE proves a point today and stake that striker role for himself assuming mitro will play no more, which i believe is his natural position. Here’s hoping.

    Rotonda

That feat in Spain was 15 years ago if not longer. No doubt it was great for him but I don’t think he’s won the league since. Might be wrong but can’t recall it.

Valencia had some seriously talented boys back then, not sure if the likes of Silva, villa etc came through the youth system but no doubt it was some achievement by rafa and his team

Wow, truly surprised by the number of 1st teamers in this side.

So pleased for Woody not just that he’s making his competitive debut, but that he’s doing it in a strong side (well, strong for our squad). Often think having 3 or 4 kids with a reserve side for the cups hinders rather than helps the youngsters.

Have a solid debut with good distribution, Freddie. There’s a chance to be grabbed here.

Glad Woodman is getting his chance with the usual suspects in front of him in defence instead of a makeshift back 4. More difficult to get a clear assessment when a GK is thrown in and the defence is jumbled up.

Hopefully an easy, relaxing win for once.
