Good News – Rafa And Ashley Agree On What’s Needed In January

This saga of Mike Ashley supposedly wanting to sell Newcastle United is dragging on and on and on ……..

Ashley is up against an expert financier and negotiator in Amanda Staveley and her PCP Capital Partners group.

Ms. Staveley has put in a decent offer for the club of around £250M – but no surprise here – Ashley wants more.

It looks like he wants at least £50M more.

He wants more for a club he has decimated over the ten years of his thrifty ownership of Newcastle where the playing staff was always secondary to money in the bank.

Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley

Rafa Benitez is putting up with this delay with extreme patience, and he still doesn’t know what transfer funds he will have available in January.

However, a piece of good news today in the Mirror is that when Rafa and Ashley talked recently it seems the owner agreed with Rafa that the squad needed strengthening this month.

So if that’s true why the delay?

As usual, Mike Ashley seems to be dragging his feet just like he did last January when he refused to fund the two players Rafa Benitez wanted, and we ended up spending nothing.

Rafa is doing all he can to quicken up this process and has given Lee Charnley a list of transfer targets.

The manager is now said to be waiting for the go-ahead from Ashley to implement his transfer plan and aggressively go after his targets.

We hope Mike Ashley gives the go-ahead quickly so we can get some good players through the door who can help us remain a Premier League club come May.

We assume that’s what Mike Ashley also wants because a relegation would knock around £150M off the price of Newcastle United.

Take it with a pinch of salt. Pretty sure we heard the same back in May for summer window.

We all know what’s needed, we’ve known from day one and I’m sure that Ashley knows what’s needed…………..issue is we know that he doesn’t give a damn and that’s why nothing has or will change under his ownership

    Ding-ding, fares please.

Pitmatic, maybe the journos DO know, but they’re forbidden from publicising the info because if they did their entire publishing group would be banned from all press gatherings/interviews etc. Don’t forget that’s how the Arab world works – only print what we tell you you cam.

nufc -why do you think we’re looking at loan signings? Ah yes, because the press says so. See above.

Can I just say, Ed’s post above is basically click-bait.

Dubai – I would assume that if it is MBS – he himself will not be put down as the owner – but maybe he will nominate others to “front” the company.
    What do you think?

I can wait another 7 to 10 days to see if it finally happens. We’ve only waited 10 years to get rid of the day controller.

PEA and Sanchez – nobody is going to get them for £100 million.
PEA is valued nominally at £60 million.
I think his value would jump significantly from that figure during any transfer business.

Whoever it is – as long as it’s a single person – they’ll want their name above the door – if it’s a consortium they’ll want a figurehead.

    Repost…

    Mister Tuff

It appears to be an open secret, so how on earth could they not have got a sniff of it?

My sense, as a complete outsider, is that a deal is more or less complete. Rafa seems very relaxed, in a way that he wasn’t last January, for instance. But we’re a long, long way from safety, and even with a big injection of cash, getting the right players in this month will be difficult. And what does a £100m transfer kitty mean, exactly? That’s now the going rate for a single elite-level player. Even if we’re in the market for £25m players, their wages are likely to be double that of our current top earners. If this is really going to push us towards clubs like Man City, it would require billions rather than millions in transfer fees and wages, yet they’ve been haggling for months over a few million to conclude the deal, all while the team slides down the table and is now at serious risk of relegation. None of this makes much sense.

I’m yet to read anything here that I haven’t read elsewhere….If you really believe the postman…the window cleaner and the joiner on here has the inside track on this takeover deal and the fully bonafide sports journalists [who aren’t anonymous] don’t have a clue what’s going on well….YOU…yes YOU… really are a bloody thicko. Sorry fellas.

Pitmatic – posted the other day about this and how astonishing it was how tight the whole negotiating was – just no leaks.

Might be that PCP laid the law down along the lines of any leaks and the deal is off.

Currently, I’m in the “deals done” camp and news is imminent. With any delays down to the fit and proper person test by the PL.

    I think we’re nearly there.

Just a thought, Rafa mentioned awhile back that he was hoping Ashley would provide the club with new players by the 15th, or the latest the 20th, to give them time to bed in. I think this may have been a joke, knowing that the takeover was underway and a parting shot at Ashley for being so tight fisted. Rafa was actually giving a nod and a wink towards the new owner being in position by the 20th, which ties in with what some have said earlier.

It just all sounds so fishy and the phrase too good to be true it probably is doing the rounds in my head. Can’t wait to see the end to this dismal, depressing decade we have had under Ashley.

I will eagerly wait with baited breath for positive news of the takeover in the coming days. Can’t say that my patience ain’t running thin with all this uncertainty though.

That’s kind of what I figured. But then why write anything at all. Why keep regurgitating nonsense? Silly question I suppose, since they do it all the time, but it’s interesting how something like this can go unreported. It’s like those Bilderberg meetings, where the UK Chancellor will fly off for talks with the world’s leading financiers and alien reptiles, yet no one even mentions it…

What’s happening in this transfer window so far is pointing to Ashley being very much still in charge of operations…. No money in the pot until the television money lands in the bank this summer…. I fear all our eggs are in the one basket here and Ashley doesn’t believe these guys are serious bidders.Swanning off on holiday suggests as much.

I also believe that we will be run by a consortium rather than 1 person. Amanda will habe her seat at the table and investors will buy a stake into making us a good premier league side. Afterall Amanda did say she wants to own a club

    RE: Kenedy

    1) Does he actually have a right leg? I ask because I don’t think I’ve seem him use it in the couple games I’ve seen him play.

    2) Is he at risk for a retrospective ban for the head shot he put in on that Norwich defender yesterday? Looks like the same thing Mitro did to Lanzini and was banned for.

Even if the deal was completed today there is not a chance in hell we would be able to entice the likes of Sanchez and PEA during this window, at best, even with massive money behind us we’d be looking at mid level players simply because of our league position.

Our best hope will be to simp,y survive this season and start rebuilding from top to bottom next season

Do you really think British journalists care what a rich Arab says to them? They will print what they believe they know or rubbish stories but they will never be gagged by any country or person. We openly print about human rights when China come to town and that affects the type of investment the UK gets…..thats an example.

If the journalists know they’ll print. I’m willing to see what the next 10 days brings but I’m siding with Christian purslow on this one. To many unknowns for us to be bought mid season and more likely to see a sale go through in summer……but I’m more than happy to be surprised

Ed suggests that Ashley is holding out for £300m which is supposedly £50m more than Amanda has tabled.

However if relegated the valuation drops by £150m which puts the value down to either £150m ( based on Ashley’s £300m price ) or only £100m ( based on Amanda’s price)

Either way that would leave Ashley holding a very impoverished baby and it’s not rocket science for him to understand that spending what’s necessary now to protect and secure the sale of the club is essential.

Knowing your place in the squad could be easily replaced with an expensive player will really give those in the current squad a kick up the back side. Or the reverse?!

I think the deal was agreed when Ashley and Staveley met face to face three weeks ago and now all the legal aspects of the deal are being worked on.

Even Ashley at his worst, knows that without investment this window we are down and he personally stands to lose over one hundred million and by Raffa not being given a transfer budget from Ashley tells me that the deal will go through in the very near future.

I thought they banned journalists from Forrest not gagged them. The ones that were banned still wrote about them though. Try telling the British media they aren’t allowed to do something……they’ll do it more because they are told they can’t do it.

More importantly this is arguably the biggest story in the north east for sometime, are journos going to not report it because they’ve been threatened with a gagging order……highly doubt it. We aren’t in the middle East or China or Russia

My thoughts exactly when I watched a few clips of Kenedy. It actually looks weird, like it’s a training routine where you can only use one foot. Maybe it’s more transparent because he’s a lefty.
