News today that England U20 striker Adam Armstrong has joined Blackburn Rovers on loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old local lad has spent the first half of the season at Bolton, but he has not been too successful playing on the left wing and in 23 games he scored only 3 goals.
This follows last season’s loan at Barnsley where he scored 6 goals in 35 total appearances.
League One side Blackburn are managed by Tony Mowbray who was the manager at Coventry in the 2015-2016 season.
Adam Armstrong – in Bolton colors
When he last played under Mowbray at Coventry City he scored 20 goals in 40 total appearances, so let’s hope Adam can start banging those goals in again – this time for Blackburn.
But these last two seasons have not been good ones for Adam and it now looks unlikely he will be able to make it at Newcastle United – his hometown club.
A couple of years ago Adam looked to be a great player in the making but he hasn’t come through as much as people had hoped over the last couple of seasons.
This is what Adam has said today on sealing his loan move to Coventry for the rest of the season:
“It’s been a bit of a crazy day, but I’m happy to be here, happy it’s all sorted and really can’t wait for the challenge ahead,”
“It’s the right move. I’ve come here to get games, score goals and do well for the team.”
“It’s the right stage to come to Blackburn and try and help the team get promoted.”
“I’m fit and ready to play.”
Blackburn are in 3rd place in League One just 7 points behind leaders Wigan Athletic, and they have a good chance of being promoted straight back to the Championship.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Either Rafa was getting noshed under the table at the presser or something’s happening. Not the reactions of a man being shafted by Ashley again.

Comment #82Sturridge supposedly wants £90k, we’re only willing to go up to £70k. That loan ain’t happening. In other news, a championship team bids around £30m for one player. Expecting to place a second bid.

Comment #84On a serious note, beardless shouldn’t return as u23 coach regardless of outcome. Great player but nothing to do with this right now. If guilty then he should have nothing to do with football. If not guilty he shouldn’t return as his record speaks for itself. He’s done a poor job.

Comment #85Sorry ignore my post about Sturridge, read it wrong and got mixed up. Sturridge is in £120k pw, our highest earner is supposedly shelvey. Don’t have wage budget apparently despite cutting massively in the summer and in the last few days of the summer window.

Comment #87If we showed any sort of ambition we could have gone out and got Andre schurrle. He’s wanting to leave Dortmund as he’s not getting games.

Comment #88I’ll not go into detail but I did mention a few days ago about how Pedro made Yas feel and know of a couple of incidents that allegedly took place. Pedro will not survive this and if he does I will be very surprised to say the least. I won’t discuss this matter going forward

Comment #93I read a few comments by posters this morning. I found it funny that there were some posters who often like to label and criticise mitrovic as a liability yet some of the same posters are more than happy to defend shelvey and not tar him with the same brush.

Comment #107Not going to happen for Armstrong here. Rafa clearly doesn’t rate him. He hasn’t given him a sniff, and failing to get game time at Bolton hardly suggests he’s wrong in that judgement.
Who then, I wonder, is most likely to make it from our youngsters? Woodman is probably the obvious candidate, but he’s clearly a long way off. Gilliead seems to have been progressing well for the past two seasons – he always gets picked at least, and has been talked up a bit by his managers. Toney and Longstaff doing okay also. Long odds on any of them though.

Comment #109I don’t think the transfer window is badly managed, I think it is well managed by fatty.
Told his new fianance man that no one is coming in whatever Rafa wants either signing or on loan block everything except outgoings.
As Ashley is gambling on the Toon staying up with the squad we have.
And if his gamble pays off he will be able to get his £300 million selling the club plus the TV payment this year £100 million plus.
If they get relegated so be it he doesn’t give a shit about the Toon or Rafa just MONEY fu**in’ MONEY

Comment #110Don’t think Armstrong was ever given the right basis to be good enough for the Premier which is a shame, but sadly he joins a very, very long list of players who stood little chance as our youth setup is a total failure.

Comment #112Badly managed from a supporters view I meant
However ….he could invest £50 Million in this window and take all the tv money at the end of they year and ask for £380 Million+ for the club
Also potentially more if the February tv deal is gigantic
So actually it is badly managed by him as well

Comment #113It’s quite simple, if the teams below us spend and Ashley gambles we go down.

Comment #114I think if beardo gets the push it could be a golden opportunity for Colback to do some good here. If the Academy Coach position does become vacant it will be Jacks chance. He can run down to the gazette and put the advert in Sits Vac.

Comment #115Not sure it’s fair to write off a young lad at 20 years old. So far his loan spells have been inconsistent. He had a very good first spell, second one not so much and this year at Bolton on the wing. He’s been quality through the England set up throughout his career. The kid is not a rounded striker but he has certain qualities that need to be played to in order to see the best of him. He’s a quality finisher, clever mover and is quick, particularly over the first few metres.
Not sure Benitez could give him a chance pitmatic since if he played he would then be ruled out from playing for any other team thus wouldn’t be able to go out on loan.

Comment #118Can’t really judge him when he’s playing in crap teams ie bottom of the league. If he was playing for man city he’d be banging them in and called up for England. Football is a team game, there are some positions where good players can look good in a bad team, but midget striker is not one of them. Alan Pardew and Tevez. Most managers like a big fella who can hold the ball up and bigun/littleun isn’t so fahionable these days. I would say it is only real footballing sides who play with a lone midget, like Sunderland with Defoe, doh, scratch that argument.

I’ve been trying to keep my head out of the sale story. It does look like something’s happening, so I’ve decided to not torture myself and wait for something official. Can’t wait for him to be gone. Could we be so lucky?

It’s hard not to write him off at NUFC to be honest. He’s twenty and struggling in the championship so I can’t see him making it in the Premier anytime soon, though I’d love to be proven wrong.
The bigger issue and my main point is with the way our young players are coached as right now our academy is where potential goes to die. It provides absolutely nothing to the first team and never has and needs to be ripped apart and rebuilt correctly.
