Newcastle have been linked with a move for Joe Hart currently on loan at West Ham, but we would be very surprised if there is much transfer business done this month between teams fighting relegation.
And with only 5 points separating 9 clubs in the lower half of the league that’s a lot of clubs.
Rafa Benitez has been told to trim the playing staff by Mike Ashley, and Rafa will try to move out players he doesn’t need.
Those include Jack Colback, Henri Saivet, and Aleksandar Mitrovic – but in such a short window that could be difficult.
Rafa Benitez – no transfer funds – you got to be kidding me!
Rafa realizes it could be difficult to do transfer business with some of the Premier League clubs this month, and he had this to say when asked about England goalkeeper Joe Hart:
“No, we are not talking about names.” “But it’s very difficult for a team in their position to do a deal with us.”
Newcastle have still not had any firm bids for Jack Colback and one of the problems with the local lad is he’s on £40K/week.
And while a number of Championship clubs are interested in the central midfielder they are unlikely to be able to afford those wages long term.
Maybe the best Newcastle can do is to get Jack out on loan and at least have some other club pay his wages for the next five months as the loan agreement.
West Brom, now managed by Alan Pardew, are said to be interested in striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, and there are clubs on the continent also credited with an interest in the Serbian striker.
It would be a surprise if Rafa sells Mitro to a relegation candidate.
Newcastle were also linked recently with West Ham striker Diafra Sakho, but the Hammers knocked back our bid.
So it’s looking like a difficult for Newcastle (make that Rafa Benitez) to negotiate but the good news is we have a chance of signing 21-year-old left-sided player Kenedy from Chelsea.
That would be a decent start to this transfer window, and while he’s not the finished article, the young Brazilian has real class.
We are hoping for the best this month that Rafa can still get in four good players – somehow.
Strikers are what we need the most.
It’s a massive test for Rafa this month – but we are hoping he can get the job done in what looks like challenging circumstances for the manager.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #5Ashley doesn’t get football we know that. Last time in the PL two wins against Spurs and Liverpool saved Mclarens job and got us relegated. Benitez’ job was/is never in danger but those two wins might have cost him transfer funds. What a gawd awful way to run a football club.

It’s like being in limbo. The feeling that we are in the edge of something fantastic, but also having that feeling that Mash will screw it up last minute. He’s done it so many times.

Allegedly being the key word. Do you honestly think Rafa would have signed a deal that allowed him to be shafted window after window and then finding himself 5M in debt when he’s finally had enough. Howay!

Comment #14Got Wi-Fi at the beach. Woo hoo!!
I would take this article with a pinch of salt but how many times are we going to say that when we all know what type of owner Ashley is. The bloke is a complete joke, the only other reason I can think of as to why he’s playing roulette in this window is to get PCP to move quickly. He’ll make his money back whether we stay in the league or not. 100m for going down then strip it’s assets and sell for small amount……thats my fear

I’m very surprised he isn’t planning on doing that anyway. Sell every single player bar the youth teams, sack every member of staff bar the essential and take the parachute payments. He’d probably get near to 300M doing that. That is a huge worry.

That’s my fear mate. I just want him gone but the end is dragging on forever, why on earth is he still away at this critical time in the season? Clearly to me he’s not bothered about the sale or pending sale or prospective bid or even PL safety

Comment #30Don’t know if it’s been said already but someone on here called Shelvey to West Ham before Christmas. They said a taxi driver told him!! don’t know how I feel really. For a relatively young lad he’s had several clubs now and I guess he is always going to have that red mist. On his day great, but maybe not enough his days, especially when stats indicate we win more without him. Maybe 1 in every 5, he has a good game. Is that enough?

Comment #37It’s starting to look like a deal has been done – but for next
summer and on the basis of NUFC being in the PL.
So, MA is gambling – he reckons Rafa can keep us up with
pretty much the same squad as we have now, but up to Rafa
if he wants to sell/buy.
Buying clubs will probably want to pay in installments, which
won’t help Rafa get the players he wants with cash up front.
Big gamble for MA – but then, that’s what he is. A gambler.
Minimal (or NO) expenditure in January, maintain PL status,
then he gets his wanted valuation for NUFC.
Just hope he doesn’t get it wrong and we end up relegated.

Are you honestly suggesting that because you posted back in 2007 that it completely rules out the fact you have since posted under various different aliases including Ian Toon and pushy Pardew etc. I think it’s quite telling that on one of your posts back then there is a poster called Ian a few posts down who whole heartedly agrees with everything you say. Was he the catalyst for the twerp we know as Ian Toon.
