Newcastle have been linked with a move for Joe Hart currently on loan at West Ham, but we would be very surprised if there is much transfer business done this month between teams fighting relegation.
And with only 5 points separating 9 clubs in the lower half of the league that’s a lot of clubs.
Rafa Benitez has been told to trim the playing staff by Mike Ashley, and Rafa will try to move out players he doesn’t need.
Those include Jack Colback, Henri Saivet, and Aleksandar Mitrovic – but in such a short window that could be difficult.
Rafa Benitez – no transfer funds – you got to be kidding me!
Rafa realizes it could be difficult to do transfer business with some of the Premier League clubs this month, and he had this to say when asked about England goalkeeper Joe Hart:
“No, we are not talking about names.” “But it’s very difficult for a team in their position to do a deal with us.”
Newcastle have still not had any firm bids for Jack Colback and one of the problems with the local lad is he’s on £40K/week.
And while a number of Championship clubs are interested in the central midfielder they are unlikely to be able to afford those wages long term.
Maybe the best Newcastle can do is to get Jack out on loan and at least have some other club pay his wages for the next five months as the loan agreement.
West Brom, now managed by Alan Pardew, are said to be interested in striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, and there are clubs on the continent also credited with an interest in the Serbian striker.
It would be a surprise if Rafa sells Mitro to a relegation candidate.
Newcastle were also linked recently with West Ham striker Diafra Sakho, but the Hammers knocked back our bid.
So it’s looking like a difficult for Newcastle (make that Rafa Benitez) to negotiate but the good news is we have a chance of signing 21-year-old left-sided player Kenedy from Chelsea.
That would be a decent start to this transfer window, and while he’s not the finished article, the young Brazilian has real class.
We are hoping for the best this month that Rafa can still get in four good players – somehow.
Strikers are what we need the most.
It’s a massive test for Rafa this month – but we are hoping he can get the job done in what looks like challenging circumstances for the manager.
Howay The Lads!!

I was meant to be one of Shelvey’s guests to the #NUFC game vs Swansea this Saturday but it’s been cancelled, read into that what you like.

Comment #44We have some good games to play at home. Winnable ones with udders, Southampton, wba, Swansea. If we can win them 4 then we will be on 34 points meaning 6 points from elsewhere. It’s important to win them games though as they’ll define our season

Comment #45I think I missed the old trolley-bus, however;
Archives can be located on the home page of the blog.
Locate the magnifying glass icon, then type in; archive, then a date, eg, 2007/08/26

Ten years after, it was a different age, but some things never change.
Keep the faith, the darkest hour is just before the date!

Comment #47Our toon – agreed. Beating Swansea is essential though as momentum is everything. 25 points leaves us needing 15 points to be certain of staying up and for me it nails Swansea to going down.

Comment #50I seem to recall quite a few posts by Carl that were followed by Ian and vice versa. I’ve always seen them as a the same person. Apologies Carl if that’s not the case but it’s the way I’ve viewed it, especially when Ian had issues with jail, Carl would always jump in to back Ian up.

Comment #52There’s something big going on that we’re not being told – something to do with the take-over, probably agreed between Twatly and Mandy to keep people off the scent.
Even Ashley – with all his undoubted utter twuntishness – wouldn’t be daft enough to stay on holiday half way into the January window knowing it would dent the value of the club just when he’s hoping to squeeze a bigger offer out of the potential buyer.
Something’s happening – perhaps on an island somewhere – and we’ll hear soon. Rafa has said just enough to suggest that he’s in a difficult situation – but it’s speculation as to the cause of it. We all assume it’s because Jabba is on hols and being an arse as usual. But what if Rafa knows there’s a deal there but has been told to stay on message and let people jump to the wrong conclusion?
My guess – and yes, my rose-tinting kit is well-worn – is that we’ll see sudden movement next week on both the sale and on transfers.
Total guess of course. 🙂

Comment #53Our Toon, great this mobile Internet thingy innit? 🙂 Got sky go as well so never miss a game on TV. Gonna be watching the semi’s tonight wherever I find myself.
Have you been going to games again, despite protestations you’d never go whilst Ashley was there you little tinker? 🙂 I see you say back for Swansea that’s all. Or am I jumping the gun? 🙂

Comment #59Good to see Arma is likely to go to Blackburn on loan. Tony Mowbray is the gaffer there I believe and he had him at Coventry so knows exactly how to get the best out of him.
Bottom of the Championship or top of Division one? Not much difference really but the important thing about loans is giving the player experience in his chosen position.
Seems Rafa wasn’t best pleased with Bolton playing him out wide and pulled the deal ASAP.
The kid’s a striker, not a winger and there’s a huge difference between the two positions. Looking forward to seeing how he does under a manager who knows his game again. Fully expect the goals to flow again.

Aye started going back once he said he was selling the club, the big difference in mentality for me is when I’m at the game I’ll support all the way through no matter how we play, win, lose or draw. When I’ve been on my self imposed exile I’ve been happy to criticise during the game whilst watching at the pub or at home. At the stadium though any kind of negativity will have an adverse affect on the team.
Yep back on Friday night so will be back in time to go to the game. I’m not sure skygo will work out here but I’ll give it a shot tonight!! Was hoping we’d have news of takeover out here but it seems like that’s not gonna happen

Hopefully Blackburn use him correctly, he had good success with Armstrong last time so he’s going to a manager that knows him well. Hopefully of he does well the lad can pick up valuable game time in his actual position

Comment #65Yep, good news on Arma. There is talent there; he just wasn’t a good fit in his last loan spell.
As for Shelvey – I totally understand why Rafa may want rid – but it seems odd that he’s been given plenty of game time recently (despite yet another red card) and has done pretty well. I can only assume that if he goes, it’s because we need to lose one to get one and we have other options in the middle. Or that we have a replacement ready to jump in.
I dunno – but the idea that it’s all just shit and stuck and Ashley’s on holiday and nobody knows what’s going on and there’s no budget and blah-de-blah…. Nah. I don’t buy that.

Comment #67Can we not let this multiple thing go? 🙂 Does it really matter anyway? Carl has often backed me up, does that mean I’m not really me, but Carl? 🙂 Our lass won’t be too best pleased like!!
Can we not draw a line under it and move forward as from today? Let’s be honest, any one of us could be anybody on here, or in reality any two or three.
Yes, it’s bizarre if somebody chooses to post as more than one person, but there’s no definitive proof he does, is there? Or have I missed a confession? Surely Ed would know and not allow it?
It just keeps coming up time and time again and usually results in pointless arguments about anything but football.
Just an idea like.

Comment #68Woy has said he’s targeting 6 or 7 new players this window. Wow if only we could get 2. That’s another fear that we stagnate and others improve around us. Kongolo has been signed by udders and he had a good reputation before joining Monaco. I hate transfer windows

If somebody feels the need to back up their own arguments with different aliases then there’s no harm done. If agreeing with yourself on a blog makes you feel better then let them get on with it. It’s a problem though when people use different aliases to attack a poster to make it look like there are a few people having a go, then it’s out of order. Have you not heard of VPN addresses that mask ID’s, there is limitless proof over the years where he has slipped up.

Comment #77Beardo is being looked at by a grievance panel if thats the right term.
How do they decide on action.
Think the proof they need is on a sliding scale.
If you are going to reprimand someone it’s balance of probablities.
If your going to sack someone it goes up the scale to near beyond any reasonable doubt.
Thing is part of Beards’s job is to tell young men they are not good enough. Something they may not like to hear. Could 3,4 or 5 get together who have an axe to grind. Well, it has happened before in the work place. Many times.
The thing gets a bit tit for tat. You say this I’ll counter and say whatever.
Apparently the club actually has a Safeguarding Officer.
Beardo is a wealthy man. If I was him at 56 and would not allow myself to put up with a load of grief. Why would you.

I think there is a huge difference between the experience a player gets at a top of div vs bottom of championship. I understand what you’re saying in terms of quality of players etc, but the team at the top is playing on the front foot and winning whereas the team at the bottom is struggling on the backfoot. Much better for a forward like Arma to be at a ‘top’ club IMO, where he’ll receive more service and score more goals.
