Ashley Back From Vacation – Takeover Talks Ongoing – Wins Can Help Ms. Staveley Seal The Deal

News that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley returns from his American vacation today, and maybe he’ll get more involved with the takeover talks still ongoing between Ashley’s people and those of Amanda Staveley and her PCP Capital Partners group.

But we assume that Rafa Benitez will want to talk to the owner to find out how much money he will get to spend this month – after all it is the 10th January, and we are one third the way through the window.

Most managers in the league will know how much they have to spend this month.

But this is Newcastle, and this is Newcastle under the incompetent and absent ownership of Mike Ashley.

Amanda Staveley – wins will help us reach safety and help her buy the club

Here’s a tweet from Pete Graves of Sky Sports who says the talks have not broken down and are still ongoing – if slow.

If Rafa can get some loan players in – say two from England and two from abroad and they are good players – that’s all we need.

Then he can take the squad he will have for the rest of the season and supported by the fans we need probably six more wins to be safe – and we need them as soon as possible.

Newcastle being safe in the Premier League will remove the main obstacle to the takeover – the possibility of relegation.

So if the lads can keep up their good form, they can get the wins and help make the takeover happen – sooner rather than later.

We have three wins from the last five games, and hopefully, we can make that four wins from six,  after we met Swansea at home on Saturday afternoon.

But that game will certainly not be an easy one.

It’s also good that the fans are being patient and supporting Rafa during this very difficult period for the club.

Rafa could sign a long-term deal to stay at the club once Amanda Staveley becomes the new owner – sometime in the future.

One of the main reasons he would do that is the bond he has with the fans.

We live in hope – as always.

Comments welcome.

I am not feeling good about this takeover, really hoping that the press are just guessing and we’re much further along than is being reported

    Report from previous

—From Sky Sports article which also singled out how we played against them—–

“Another former Manchester City player, Craig Bellamy, echoed those sentiments soon after when giving his verdict on the game during The Debate. “There has sort of become an acceptance that you can’t beat Manchester City or if there is a way of beating them that they have to get everyone behind the ball and wait for a mistake or a set-piece,” he said.

“There are going to be periods where Manchester City have the ball. You can’t do much about it. But to start the game like that, it was so refreshing to see. And do you know what? There are one or two teams in the Premier League, and one or two managers, who can learn something from that.”

Kind of gets my goat that pundits criticize like that. Bellamy’s point is if everyone is going to lose to them, go out swinging. But for teams at the bottle of the table the team, goal difference can mean survival or relegation. I think we were well within our right to play the way we did and come out relatively unscathed psychologically and in terms of GD.

If pundits don’t like watching it, maybe more effort from the FA should be put in to make it a level playing field. The economics of football have sadly reduced our top tier to 3 mini leagues.

It’s deja-vous all over again! He’s not going to sell, or he would have accepted the Stavely offer of funding. Like all supporters we’ll log on every day to a constant stream of false hopes about signings, only to find a last minute “deal” that isn’t one. MA is a Tottenham fan, and takes delight in messing with the Geordie public, getting his perverse satisfaction from the fact he was abused in front of his daughter when during his first year at SJP

Not that I want Sturridge here but that loan signing isn’t happening. Stumbling block being that Sturridge actually had the audacity to ask for wages and wouldn’t accept slazenger socks tennis balls. Seems he’s a mercenary and not the type of character we want or need.

We have to ask ourselves THIS… Does Mike Ashley actually want to sell the club ? Is it him just getting everyone going like always getting the fans hopes up again and again… then kick us in the teeth with the same old Bollox Year after Year… We will probably sell colback for peanuts to leeds or Aston Villa get rid of his wages of £40.000 a week … Sell Mitro for £13 million… Cant get any loan signings as we have missed the boat again and say there wages are to High. Why are we after a Left Back from Crystal Palace that hasnt played for over 12 months in the League ?? are we that Desperate… Ashley knows we want him out He knows it has to be this week so what does he do Go to America On HOLIDAY … Its all About Him NOT Newcastle United or the Fans … We ask ourselves this we get a Gate of 52000 every home game even in the Championship .. WE cant afford Players to come but how can Clubs like Swansea Stoke Crystal Palace Bournemouth afford to with a gate of Farr Less than 52000… If Ashley is the owner by the summer then i can see fans not going just to get the P”£$ taken out of them ONCE MORE !!!

Lgfaud, I wasn’t asking rafa for all out attack v City, but palace made a better fist of it, and so did Bristol City. To quote the indo ‘ assertive counter attacking’. Just calling it as I see it. We hardly laid a glove on spurs and blamed that defeat on Jane’s injury. This isn’t a ‘rafa out’ comment, despite what some of the more hysterical guys on here will say. I appreciate we don’t have great players but since when did Bristol City. And yes, I am allowing for the important goal difference issue.

Biggest indication for me a takeover is coming was Saturday’s team sheet. Fat Mike would never have allowed such a strong team to be put out. That said, there’s too much certainty on the blog for my liking. Saying it’s done and an announcement is iminent just makes people look silly. It clearly isn’t true.

As much as that, i heard it was a big shiny new mug and sports diretct vouchers.
Why aren’t we moving players out and bringing anyone in, well according to the latest podcast our wage bill is estimated to be towards 90 million. Simon Bird said that Rafa has done all the costings and has deals lined up just like he did last January and last summer but needs either of the two Muppets Ashley or Barnes to sign off on them. Penfold can’t as he has no power whatsoever. Reckons that there’s 10-15 million to spend and that rafa is adamant there’s that left to spend. But, taking all that into consideration, given the fact it took Barnes two months to sort the loan of Merino out and 6 weeks to sign lejeune with his release clause, how optimistic are we all that were going to sign anyone in the next 3 weeks..

Bellend was commenting on the Bristol city performance after they almost knicked a draw. They ended up with more possession and more shots at the etihad than all teams in the bottom half of the PL. They had a sensible game plan and pressed as a team when needed high up which resulted in a goal.

Guess the bottom line is when was the last time a team got relegated on goal difference and how often has it happened? I can’t recall of any occasions. Keep in mind he discusses teams that have gone to Etihad, we were playing at home.

Teams that play citeh lose half the battle before taking to the pitch. They aren’t beatable and will have off days, the point palace picked up is massove for them. I actually agree with Bellemy assessment

Mike Ashley is wringing us all out .

Fat twat just buggers off on holiday and is sitting in his office today grinning and salivating over our stress.

Ashley should be sued for mental torture to Newcastle fans .. its ever since we called for his head and supposedly threatned his family when he effectivly sacked Kevin Keegan. X

I think for me you need a couple players who can help take the pressure off. When we played City, we don’t really have anyone playing who when receiving the ball can take it into the attacking half or hold it up. In the case of Palace they have Zaha as their outlet, and to a lesser extent Townsend. Zaha can take on a defender and keep them more honest without a lot of support. He is also good enough to make something out of nothing. We would need to commit more numbers forward and risk exposing to their counter attack. I can’t explain that as far as Bristol goes though. They committed to their game plane, have nothing to lose in the cup competition – they already run by knocking off Man U, gave it a go and fair play to them.
