Swansea City The Most Important Game Of The Season So Far

Newcastle have come into a bit of form of late, and in our last four league games, we have taken a good 7 points, and that was after taking only a single point in the previous nine league games.

Add to that we have beaten Luton Town to progress to the 4th round of the FA Cup, and things may be looking up at Newcastle.

We hope things are looking up at Newcastle.

🙂

Carlos Carvalhal and Rafa Benitez – last season

But Saturday is a really important game – one we have to go all out to try to win.

We are at home to Swansea City who are on 16 points and bottom of the league, and if we can win the game, we will be 9 points ahead of the Welsh side.

And it would be our third double of the season, even though we will have still won only 7 league games.

It’s a crucial game – we need the win and Rafa has had all week to prepare his side and go up against their new manager Carlos Carvalhal.

Carlos was recently sacked by Sheffield Wednesday, but he did the double over Newcastle last season –  1-0 at St. James’ Park and 2-1 at Hillsborough.

Rafa will want to win this game, and there will be another sold-out crowd cheering on the lads, and hopefully, by Saturday night we will be 3 points closer to our minimum target of 40 points this season.

Hopefully after two defeats to him last season Rafa will have his measure. I was at both games so hopefully third time lucky for all concerned.

If Benitez has limited money, he needs to put all of it on a number 10. We’ve gone a year and a half without anyone that can play there while using a formation where this is the key position. We don’t even appear to be linked with any no10s. It’s all back-up leftbacks and mediocre kepeers again. Benitez’s biggest mistake was bringing in Diame, thinking he could play as a number ten and then persisting with him and Perez for 18 months. I feel sorry for them, because they’ve both took a lot of flak playing out of position. They are now both performing better in other positions. There’s a few number 10s in the championship who will at the very least be better than what we’ve got.

Fancy us to win this one leaving us 15 more points to virtual safety….surely this is achievable even at the same points per games as in the first half of the season……think Rafa will go with Ayoze up front again as he’s shown more poachers instinct in the last 2 games than anyone else has all season……2-0 the toon

why didn’t he stop whining about players he could have and concentrate on using the squad he has.
most of his problems are self inflicted, by selecting players that do not play well together. or just refuse to play some of them.

Carvahl needs to get the best out of Bony and Sanchez otherwise they are even more toothless than us upfront. I can’t see them scoring any more than one. I’m going to go 1-0 toon. Gayle to score.

Ed speaks of Rafa seemingly fighting a lone battle to keep NUFC in the premiership, but let’s not forget it’s a battle in which he has, and needs to continue to have, the support of all genuine supporters, whether they be in the ground or at home.
It’s this combination which has got to see us through to 40 points this season.

I honestly thought there would have been 30M thrown in to the hat to make sure we stayed up. It is really starting to look like that Ashley is prepared to gamble on losing 150M for want of spending 30M. This is what we are up against. Anybody who has defended this guy’s ownership should hang their heads in shame.

From previous thread. Being a Newcastle supporter is not something that you become when things look good and then drop as soon as the wheels start to come off. It’s in the blood, it’s something that you live with 24 hours a day 7 days a week, no matter what the state of affairs are.

No matter what division the club is in, supporters will stick with the club, owners and managers come and go, but fans……True fans they stay forever.

You can leave the fans base if that’s what you want to do, but I wouldn’t expect many will follow you out the door, Newcastle United is in our blood.

    Repost

    Shire, Hibbit, Babams, Dubai
Judging by Bambam’s comments yesterday that things have gone quiet on the take over front, it strikes me that info sources are in lock-down.

The Chronicle in the form of Mark Douglas has come out and told Ashley to either sell up or support the club with transfer funds.
As we know, Ashley doesn’t normally respond to media pressure but his behaviour in not backing Rafa for the third consecutive must surely result in even more negative coverage and there surely must be a reaction from him.

Given his reported willingness to sell the club to a buyer that can support it, where does he go from here if it transpires that terms have not green agreed with PCP and the teams not significantly strengthened? Is he going to blame PCP for failing to meet his £350m asking price thus leading to accusations of him being greedy or will he accuse PCP being unrealistic in their valuation?
The latter could prove to be unhelpful to Ashley’s reputation in financial circles. Either way, he’s on a hiding to nothing.
If however terms have been agreed and the deal’s with the EPL for its fit and proper persons ownership assessment, Ashley and PCP must come to some arrangement with regard to short-term transfer funding. That would allow Ashley to claim that the deal was agreed before Christmas but he and PCP were unable to comment – thus showing him to have honoured his summer enthusiasm to sell up to a buyer with sufficient resources to take the club forward.

But, history has proved that Ashley’s actions seem strange…….

Might be hard to match first half of seasons points tally ,as we don’t play Stoke or the hammers again! That’s where 12 of them points came from.

I have had my disagreements with you over Ashley – but I’m with you on the present situation.

ASHIT wants out at all costs so is not going to put another penny into the club but I bet he is willing to take money out.

Ashley is NOT going to give RAFA a penny NOT even for loans using his finance man as a shield between himself and RAFA.

And I can see the situation coming up if other clubs put in bids for
    Lascalles say £15 million
    Shelvey £12 million
    Mitrovich £10 million
    Mbemba £8 million
    Darlow £5 million

Rafa will be forced to sell
    that is £50 million
RAFA will walk waiving his 5 million get out clause

Relegation or not he is not bothered he is a gambler

Sell in the summer for £150 – 200 million take the TV money £100 million plus the £50 million from selling our players that’s a nice £300 million plus.

He could not give a Sh*t what happens to the TOON as long as he gets his money

It would be easier to deal with the devil in his own back yard. Big roulette wheel with the following on it; Buy a 25 mill striker, players work for free for the week, fan shout I love you Mike at a game, bungee jump out of my helicopter with a pair of Londsdale kegs on. This appears to be the way this bloke works. Lets face it, what else do you do when you have everything?

During these frustrating times many of us have questioned why on earth rafa is still here considering his pedigree and the respect he holds around the world whilst having to deal with this mongrel of an owner we have.
No doubt he would have received offers from around the world if he had been free….But…I live in the hope that he knows something we don’t, something very positive…something worth hanging on for
    Just my opinion

There is a lot of nonsense being peddled by the media, probably because they don’t know the facts.

    1. The idea that an organisation must wait until the head of that organisation must return from holiday before a decision can be made is an absolute nonsense. Anybody who has ever worked with people who sit at the top table will know that they can always be contacted anywhere and at anytime. And major decisions are not dependent upon being physically present in the organisation’s premises.

    2. The idea that Rafa or/and Charnley cannot conduct a transfer, whether in or out, because there is no money in the kitty is nonsense. Newcastle does not operate on a shoestring. This is one, possibly the only one good thing Ashley has done.

The conclusion must be that there are contractual and/or regulatory approvals necessary before normal business can proceed.
