Alan Shearer So Disappointed – Newcastle Had Enough Chances To Win 3 Games

Like most Newcastle fans, Alan Shearer was really disappointed with the 1-1 home draw against bottom of the league Swansea yesterday.

It’s what Alan had called a huge game for both teams – but we couldn’t get the win and dropped two points to West Ham, West Brom and Crystal Palace – who all won their games yesterday.

The result just wasn’t good enough although Newcastle played well in the first half, but once again we couldn’t convert the good chances we created.

Alan Shearer – Newcastle should have won

Should have let Gayle go for 15M and brought in a 25M striker. But unfortunately Mikey knows best.

Disappointing result yesterday but the team played well. Rafa set them up well and they seemed to do everything you’d want except take the chances they made.

Jail – I doubt we would have spent the 15 million. That is half the problem, also from the sound of it clubs only want to loan our players.

    Jib,
It is as simple as that. Any number of clubs would have paid 15M for Gayle and if Ashley would have put an extra 10M in we would have had a 25M striker. That’s not difficult to understand.

Transfer- yep no striker that can.finish is exactly our problem.
Rafa has in control most of the time, either defending well or getting up the pitch.
I said this time last year I hoped atsu was a backup signing to develop under established wingers.
If the takeover doesmt happen before the window ends I fear for us. Shirt term and long term.

It has the potential to pay for itself as well.

There’s the big prize financially of staying in the Prem but also given the tv money going up, the amount for your final league position will increase.

I don’t think we are particularly good defensively, it’s more we have bodies back as don’t really commit many forward. The back 4 have a lot of cover (except when the midfielders occasionally switch off).

It’s worked in the past under different managers as we had a trio of Ba, Cisse and Ben Arfa. They could make things happen from nothing/limited chances but this team doesn’t have that quality.

Perez is a concern for me. I know he grabbed two recently but over the season he hasn’t scored many.

He’s so frustrating. He often does the hard work and beats a man but then seems to lack that power and decision making. Once he’s got his half yard he needs to play his pass/shot quicker and with more purpose.

He seems like he’s happy to just hit the target instead of the corner of the goal or really drive it home.

I like him but if he’s to kick on he needs to add that to his game.

Some guy coming out of the ground blamed Rafa’s signings for us fielding a championship side. I said he should have been given more money, he said so he could have wasted more. I hope he’s still feeling proud for wanting SBR sacked!

I know we’ve disagreed over things on Rafa as I don’t think he’s great in the transfer market but even I won’t blame him for this team.

By all accounts he was let down by Ashley in the summer (and the January before). He isn’t the first manager to be let down by Ashley but I hope that he’s the last. Need this takeover done ASAP.

Transfer – sorry i should have been more explicit. Defending as a team.
I agree we lack the quality in attacking options.
Half way through the transfer window. Just hoping we can change that.

Perez of the two has a strikers mentality.
Gayle at times comes across as a bit precious
When he got crunched by the defender second
half and started hobbling the plaintive pleading
looks at the bench are the last thing you want to
    see from a PL striker.
Ayoze on the other hand seems to have gone past
his annoying falling over phase and gets stuck in now.

Completely agree. We do need reinforcements if we are to give ourselves a chance.

Teams like Palace, West Ham and Southampton are starting to move above us. You’d think with a new manager and the quality they have stoke would move up there too.

We can’t just rely on 3 teams being worse.

lets face it rafa blew it yesterday
All he had to do was play the same team as he played v Stoke 4-1-4-1 perez upfront
instead he reverted to 4-4-2 and swansea completely dominated possession
also Murphy deserves better than to play second fiddle to ritchie

I agree on Perez’s attitude, it’s really positive and be shows determination.

I’m not sure what his problem is though. It may be decision making, can’t decide what he wants to do quick enough and then loses that half yard he made. It might be nerves, wanting to do well so badly he doesn’t fully commit to the shot. It could be pressure, if you know you only might get the once chance you can snatch at it.

We all see something in him, just needs to show it soon as he won’t be in that age of “potential” for much longer.

Hibbit – agreed, for me that’s what we saw with Ashley coming back to the table at the last game of the season to see if he’s won his gamble. For me he didn’t do enough to ensure that. Rafa performed a miracle to achieve that. Creating a unity I’ve rarely seen.
That’s not enough at this level. You have to be able to score too

Hibbit agreed. Why do our players insist on taking another touch instead of just striking the ball with power. Even if it doesn’t go in it could take a deflection and go in or fall to one if our players to shoot. I know the answer it’s because they don’t have that in their locker. Want to pass it into the net…. Well if arsenal struggle to do that at times how in earth do they think they’ll do it.
