If we had been beaten yesterday by Swansea, it would have been a disaster.
As it turns out we drew 1-1 but in the first half we were dominant and created some chances, but we couldn’t score.
In these games, it’s deja vu – all over again.
Because that’s been the problem ever since Rafa came to the club – we miss an awful lot of the chances we create.
Think how we would have done if we had an Alan Shearer in the side – we’d be flying really high in the league this season.
Alan would cost way over £100M in today’s prices.
We were hoping yesterday that Perez would keep up his excellent goalscoring form of late, but he didn’t score, although he had a good game.
And it was Joselu who came off the bench and scored a good goal – his 4th of the season.
DeAndre Yedlin – in action against Swansea
We were indebted to DeAndre Yedlin for clearing off the line from Wilfried Bony in stoppage time otherwise the game could have turned out to be a complete disaster.
One way we can get to 40 points is when playing the bottom 14 teams in the league we have to make sure if we can get the draw if we cannot win.
So at least we didn’t allow Swansea to gain 3 points on us yesterday.
It could have been a lot worse
But because West Ham, West Brom, and Crystal Palace all won yesterday they all gained 2 points on us.
Here’s what DeAndre Yedlin told nufcTV after the game yesterday:
“That’s what’s so disappointing,” “The first half, we felt we were on top and could have scored two or three goals to put the game away.”
“We did show character to come back from 1-0 down, and from then on until the end of the game we had a lot of pressure on them.”
“At the end of the day, I think we’re disappointed with that result. I think we felt we deserved more from it.”
“Against a team that’s around us in the table, those are the points we need to be taking. I don’t think anybody is satisfied with that result.”
“I didn’t really know exactly where the goal was, but obviously Darlow was out and I was covering for him.”
“And it was lucky that it kind of came my way and I did what I needed to do.” (well done lad!)
“To win against Burnley is huge. And the fans deserve it because they’ve supported us through the whole season.”
“And even though our run where we weren’t playing as well and had some losses, they were still right behind us.”
“So if anybody deserves it, the fans do. We’re looking to do it – especially for them, to get them excited again.”
“And hopefully, we can just get a good run started.”
If we had won the game, we would have been in 11th place.
We are currently in 14th place in the league, and there are just 5 points between Watford who are 10th and Bournemouth who are 17th.
We need to go on a winning run ….. soon.
