There’s a report in the Mail today that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez wants to sign 27-year-old central midfielder Papa Babou Ndiaye from Galatasaray.
The 8 times capped Senegal International is said to have a buy-out clause in his contract of £18M, but we assume that’s too much for Newcastle to pay – at least this month.
The best deal would be to get the player on loan and then have an option to buy in the summer at which time we can give Galatasaray £18M for his permanent transfer.
There’s news today From PA Sport that Mike Ashley has sanctioned three new players to come in this month, but no word on how much that is in funds.
If it was Manchester United or Manchester City three players would be funded for around £200M – for Ashley, it could mean £20M at most.
🙂
Papa Ndiaye – 27-year-old Galatasaray central midfielder
But at some point Newcastle must pay the going rates to get better players than we already have in the team – that’s the purpose of transfers after all.
That may only happen if Ms. Amanda Staveley buys the club, but that’s still an “if” at this point.
However, the Mail are reporting that Watford, Crystal Palace, and Stoke City also have an interest in the player, and if they can pay£18M for him this month the deal would be done assuming they could agree on terms for the player.
We seem to be like the paupers of the Premier League this season.
Hopefully, all that will change in the summer, but only if we have new owners in by then.
Papa Ndiaye only moved to Galatasaray last August from Osmanlispor for around £7.5M which is around £6.6M – so that’s a massive profit for the Turkish club in a short six months.
What do you think?
A note on the comments.
I have been inundated over the last week or so with various complaints about some readers’ comments and where appropriate I am moderating the comments of some readers.
If those comments don’t change to be more civil and less inciteful, those readers will not get back on the blog.
Please do not criticize other readers personally – it’s not their fault they do not agree with you.
I’d like all types of views on Newcastle on the blog – including from people who believe Rafa could be doing a better job at the moment.
But you have to be civil and respectful when making your comments.
Thanks.

I am trying to cover all bases
Feel like I am going insane
It’s the only thing I’ve wanted (for Ashley to sell up) since Ashley appointed Joe Kinnear
that was the point I realised he was taken the pi55, stopped my season ticket
Now I go much less frequently when I really want to see a game and can’t resist .
I want this takeover to happen more than any human in the world including Venezuela and Greenland

Comment #83Right ..I was directed towards the reprobates (as someone at the FA called them this afternoon ) over at The Premier league (already been there)..but had another pop at them
I did speak with someone but only directed to email the questions in..so I did ..here’s one I asked earlier
Can the Premier league take retrospective action on an owner who is deliberately miss managing a Football club under Premier league rules and administration?
Also asked how long fit and proper persons test takes and are they in the process or have they completed the process as regards a famous North East football club…
Just having a bit of fun digging around …

Quite a few people on here think Ashley will be happy to take the hit and drop into the championship and gladly accept the parachute slush money, but where did it all go when we were in the Championship last year. when we got promoted we didn’t have 2 pennies to rub together for transfers. You rightly point out the hit Villa took because of relegation, no doubt Norwich as well. If you also look at Hull Boro and Scums, it looks like none of those clubs had sufficient funds available to launch them.. back into the Prem, Scums bottom,Hull bottom half and Boro who are well run by Gibson are at best looking at the playoffs. I would love to see Ashley shaft himself big style but not at the hands of NUFC.

Trying to find info on it is like Newcastle trying to buy a player, or like anything to do with Ashley really.

The worst that can happen is they don’t confirm anything and say there’s nothing that can be done. Of course, they’re probably grinning from ear to ear seeing us struggle as it seems like a past time for them. So in that sense, they’ll never go against FatAsh as his shenanigans fit their agenda for us perfectly.

PCP have employed one of the top law firms in the county to help run a mock auction for Ashley i dont think so..
its took years for PCP to build their reputation to the level its at now to risk it for a one off little deal for Ashley would be suicide

Comment #94That’s what I said to the lad that mentioned it
I think because there is literally no movement or budging on the 250 Million figure I have started to think his theory could be true
To be honest I’ve sent myself crazy with over thinking every possible scenario over the last 3 months
I can’t understand how 2 sets of lawyers can’t of come up with a compromise / clauses to benefit both parties and agree to sign the deal off.
As you say it’s two big law companies thrashing out a deal , relegation , tv revenues , January window , manager , advertising would have all been coveted by now surely
If it comes to feb 1st and no deal done then pcp will literally have no inclination to push the deal through until end of season
Ashley will move goal posts if we stay up
Relegation – I don’t even want to think about

Aye I popped back on the blog after leaving the madhouse for best part of a year…let’s just say it’s been interesting ..
I had a natter with a lass at the Durham land registry 7 weeks back ..the registration numbers and grid ref I had for the land at the back of Gallowgate , Strawberry corner etc may not have been the exact ref ..im hoping it is not correct exact ref as she told me it was sold.
Also spoke to a council Official Newcastle civic center who said it would ..if sold..not effect extending the Gallogate stand. Still feasible.

Comment #112Seems to me the only definite “facts” that we know are:-
There are take over talks going on because Rafa referred to it.
We know Staveley and Mr Tubbs are the parties involved as we’ve seen them at the curry night.
So far nobody at all has got any of their predictions right. Some folk are adding to their original predictions almost on a daily basis.
I suppose best to wait and see – (whilst it has been somewhat entertaining reading all the theories and predictions and getting carried away to boot).

Comment #113Online…Interesting is a very diplomatic way of putting it. It’s always been a bit mad on here, I guess it goes hand in hand with supporting the toon, but this past year has, for me anyway, been something else.
Thanks for the info. Interesting what you say about it not scuppering future development of SJP, that was obviously one major concern. I suppose all that’s left to work out is what Ashley has made off of NUFC and it’s assets.

They haven’t laid a finger on the guys that own blackpool and they make Ashley look like a choir boy.
They’re a toothless organisation and won’t bat an eyelid once he’s gone.
Did anyone listen to Hawksby and Jacobs this afternoon…they basically had a 5 minute chat with a north east based reporter and said exactly what I said on the blog in the morning….that Ashley’s just playing a game of brinkmanship and he’s using the February announcement of the new tv deal to lift the valuation and get rid of the conditions associated with the offer.
No-one thinks the talks have broken down, no-one thinks it won’t go through…everyone’s just frustrated at the length of time it’s taken and how it’s affecting Rafa’s chances of keeping us up therefore leaving Ashley with an asset worth 100 million if it all goes pete tong.

Comment #115Surely not selling now is fatal. He must KNOW that we will go down if we do not improve the squad, and 3 cast offs on loan won’t help keep us up. He must also KNOW that any chance of getting a decent price for the club goes out the window WHEN we go down. He’s cutting his nose off to spite his big red round face.

Comment #117I’ll agree with you Frank that the inbounds are more likely to be loans than perma transfers, outside of a bargain basement purchase. Anyone that could make any kind of difference, highly unlikely at this stage. It’s frustrating to be sure, but nowt to do but support the team and hope the slug sells sooner than later.

Be nice if sky sports just asked outright what’s happening
Chronicle – could heap pressure on
Rest of media could follow
I can’t think of any club that has had a take over in the pubic eye (in such a mis-managed way)
Every day is the same – like the last day of the transfer window , day after day after day
It’s unbelievable
