Rafa Benitez Close To First Signing Of The Month

Having missed out quite a few targets already this month Rafa Benitez is now working on a deal to bring Crystal Palace left-back Pape Souare to the club.

It would be a loan deal through the end of the season with an option to buy in the summer.

Those are likely to be the only deals Rafa can get done this month with Mike Ashley restricting the money the manager can spend.

There are various reports today that the deal is close to being completed and it’s worrying because the left-back has been unable to get into the Crystal Palace side.

But Rafa could see something in the player and when we have watched him he’s a technically good player.

Pape Souare – Crystal Palace left-back

Souare has 22 caps for Senegal and made his International debut in February 2012, in a goalless draw against South Africa.

Souare is keen to get regular playing time so he has a chance to make the Senegal squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.

Rafa has long wanted a left-back to challenge Paul Dummett for the left-back position and one of Rafa’s priorities is to have competition at every single position in the Newcastle side.

And it would give Newcastle some momentum if we can get one of the four players in that Rafa wants in January.

The manager also wants a goalkeeper and maybe two strikers brought in this month.

It doesn’t look like we will get Kenedy from Chelsea with manager Antonio Conte needing to bring in a replacement before he will let Kenedy leave – and that’s looking very doubtful.

And the not Souare signing would affect the potential Kenedy signing – if he did become available – with Rafa able to play Kenedy in an attacking role on the left of midfield.

What do you think?

Souare when 100% fit is actually pretty decent but it is a worry if this is all we can afford !

Maybe our best bet is hoping Palace and West Ham are safe so they loan us a few players who are cast aside…..

Ashley greatly worries me after seeing the mess of Carillion and how their chief executive jumped ship last year and then the shit hits the fan wouldn’t surprise me if Ashley is planning a similar thing with us take all the money from the TV deals and then leave us with nothing!!

I shouldn’t react to tabloids but it’s hard to believe that you could want to wait till a new tv deal is announced but not put anything in to help guarantee it.

I would love if there is a further annoucement regarding the takeover rather than the speculation.

Having said that I am grateful and do enjoy all the info provided by Sparky, Shire, Hibbit, Fog, Online Guy, DubaiMickey etc. As with any info, you can either believe or not, it doesn’t really change anything unitl some thing is officially announced

I honestly thought Gayle would do well in the premiership this season as he would get more space in behind and he has actually had more chances created and better ones than last season but his finishing has gone!

Last year he was finishing half chances but this season he has missed tap ins and one on ones with the keeper

Would have been interesting to see how Chicarito, Jovetic or Abrahams would have done with similar chances this season for us seeing as they were prime Rafa targets

Dream on if you think there is going to be a takeover. The admiral loves winding the fans up. The only was to get rid of the admiral is for the captain to scuttle the ship and abandon her and leave the admiral and crew to their fate. The crew should then mutiny. STAY AWAY.

How bad must the Palace full back be if a relegation rival is willing to lend a player to us. Joke.

I think he’s probably at the stage where he doesn’t really fear relegation that much anymore to be honest. Getting relegated twice and coming straight back as champions has no doubt lured him into a false sense of security. We would need to go down and have a season like the mackems for him to really start taking a hit financially. It would take a few seasons of championship mediocrity before he really felt the pinch unfortunately. Then he would be under pressure to sell.

    Did somebody just fart?
Lee, I thought he might surprise us too, but I suppose he had his chances at Palace and failed…
Abrahams has lived up to the ‘tap in’ title so far and done very little for Swansea and ‘Little Pea’ hasn’t done a great deal for West Ham either.
That said, he hasn’t had a good run for the Hammers either, so maybe he might be worth a punt.

Belfast, the problem with that is he wouldn’t get a decent price then. If he won’t sell now I worry for our future.
I’m hoping this is just typical BS from the Express and Sun. That maybe they’ve got half a story and making the rest up.

I think the thing with Gayle is his injuries have ruined him he just doesn’t run properly or put his foot through the ball when striking probably through fear of tweaking a hamstring or muscle !

    Bobbybee,
I think we are at our maximum selling price now with Rafa in charge of a PL club. We are no different to Villa back in the Championship who sold for 76M and got a 76M type investor. The worry is that Ashley knows exactly this and has a contingency plan that won’t cost him the 230M we think it will. It might end up costing him 50/100M but after what he’s had out of the club and what it’s achieved for SD I think he’d be prepared to take that hit to shaft us.

It’s likely that Mike played his usual hardball and pcp went away and we are now waiting for the pr assault at windows end. Mike could hold on to this club and take 50/50 odds on survival as a decent punt. If we do get relegated the money he has made in the meantime from tv, continued advertising, merchandising, corporate and matchday and the money saved on contracts come summer player AND manager exodus will offset any devaluation on the club.

I reckon by the start of next season in the championship he would be prepared to take less than £250m and the likes of pcp would start the bidding all over again, possibly with a couple of other suitors.

Hibbit, still not holding my breath mate. Don’t believe much I hear from the msm, their record stinks. 🙂
He’ll go when he’s ready and under his terms no doubt. If he does need the money, as has been suggested, then he won’t get a better offer imo. If he waits too long, they’ll go elsewhere – depending on who gets promoted possibly?
Nothing he does surprises me anymore, so i’ll sit tight and not get too excited by headlines.

Sourare in as a left back when we have Dummett and Manquillo suggests Mbemba may be at risk if Rafa sees Dummett as a utility left back or CB cover. Rafa may want a more attack minded left back to mirror Yedlin on the right side to increase our attacking options on the left overlapping with the left midfield.

Is this Desmond lad a friend of PCP or Ashley? Is the little snippet just tactically released to appease the restless and disillusioned natives to keep them quiet for the next fortnight so Ashley pockets the cash reserved for January purchases without a backlash that would tarnish his own primary product (sports direct).

There seems to be something going on if we have been reduced to the ‘other clubs’ section on SD website and the SD branding in the Club shop being removed.

I also believe that if the express and the mail are running stories today that this information will be stage released to sell papers as I would believe they have the exclusive, they’ll need to drag it out to benefit from any exclusivity they have to sell papers with breaking news daily on run up to completion… Let’s be fair the Mail and Star aren’t exactly renowned for breaking big news and as every dog has their day this could be Richard Desmond’s and he won’t make much by laying everything out in his first big story on the sale. He needs to drag it out to make it worthwhile but I’m hoping that this is the prelude to an announcement that the sale has been completed with a story being put out every day until the 20th to capitalise on the interest this story will generate for British football fans.

Jail, he’ll suit himself, he always does matey. All he cares about is the money. No interest in the future of the club or the fans, just how much he can make.
That’s why I’ve always, been ambivalent about the man. No different from any of the other owners we’ve had, SJH apart, who was actually a fan.
It’s also why I’m not getting too excited about the next owner, until we know who it is and what their intentions are. It’s not Amanda Staveley, she’s just the front. Investment companies want a return on their input after all.
Only time will tell. As long as whoever it is is willing to speculate a bit, they definitely can’t be worse!

After a cold wet and windy week in Manchester, Saturday night for City will be another hard slog against a defensive side not willing to cross the half way line for 60 minutes. The recent loss, soggy and freezing conditions, plus a build up of games will not make for a very entertaining game but the result could be more favourable to us.

Lascelles, not a bad theory re staged publication by the Northern Shell group.

The fact that this latest story is from the Express is extremely pertinent.

Desmond is a mutual friend of Staveley and Ashley. He apparently set up the curry house meeting as a first face-to-face meeting between his two friends, with Desmond there as the matchmaker.

But if this story is true, and his newspaper is publishing info on the private business activity of his supposed friends, wouldn’t that be damaging to his relationship with one, or both of them?

If it’s not true, the same issue applies. Surely he wouldn’t sh!t on his friends by publishing a story that could put undue pressure on either side?

    Doesn’t add up to me.

Unless, of course, the story was known, approved, and possibly instigated by both parties.

Your idea about Desmond ‘stringing out’ the exclusive takeover saga makes sense in this context.
