Amanda Staveley Devastated After Takeover Talks Are Called Off

Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners have hit back at Mike Ashley’s claims the recent negotiations to buy the club that he called off yesterday have been a complete waste of time.

They say they did bid around £250M in November for the club and they were keen going into the new year to buy Newcastle United.

Ashley has suggested there was never any real deal on the table after four months of negotiations and it seems that Ashley lost his patience with the phony reporting that seems to have been going on.

We can only assume the new bid reported yesterday in the Express and Star were put out by Staveley’s people (Richard Desmond)  and was not accurate reporting and Ashley got sick of all the leaks.

Ms. Amanda Staveley – said to be devastated talks called off

This was the statement put out last night by Sky Sports from a source close to Ashley:

“It is only right to let the fans know that there is no deal on the table – or even under discussion – with Amanda Staveley and PCP.”

“Attempts to reach a deal with Amanda Staveley and PCP have proved exhausting,  frustrating and a complete waste of time.”

The Chronicle is reporting today that Amanda Staveley is “devastated” about Ashley breaking off negotiations with her group.

And it was done through the media as Amanda learned the news like the rest of us – via the media – and the statement put out by Sky Sports on behalf of Ashley.

George Caulkin of the Times has reported the following today:

“Two sources close to Amanda Staveley assert categorically that PCP submitted a written bid for NUFC in mid November.”

“Submitted to Ashley’s solicitors through Chris Mort of Freshfields (the former Newcastle United  Chairman 2007-2008), they insist.”

“For their part, Newcastle sources insist that the statement released to Sky – that talks with Staveley have been “a complete waste of time” – are reflective of Mike Ashley’s views.”

We’ll have to wait to hear what Rafa Benitez’ reaction is to all of this – but it cannot be good.

Newcastle fans are angry at Ashley for what has happened and it must be very difficult to negotiate with this man.

There will possibly be more fall out today and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

The club is still up for sale – but the collapse of the talks with Amanda Staveley is not good news.

Comments welcome.

    read your response, thanks.

‘We’ll have to wait to hear what Rafa Benitez’ reaction is to all of this – but it cannot be good.’

I think it’s ‘it depends’. If he’s given a sizeable kitty, he’ll probably be happy enough. If not, he walks.

    Ed my man,
You talk of Ashley being absent. At other times that he meddles too much. Which is it? 😉

i’m not defending Ashley, but it felt like a hostile takeover, not aSale of a prime asset.

and if Rafa was instrumental in this, i don’t see him lasting long

Stavely works in exactly the same as Ashley, except she hasn’t built a business empire. Both offer way less than an item is worth and hope to bag a bargain, that’s how SD operates (and why Ashley has missed top players over and over, preferring the bargain bin to keep us barely afloat).

Dear Amanda, don’t try to kid a kidder, Ashley will not budge, so PP should either stump up or ship out and let the club move on.

It’s January 22nd. We’ve drawn at home to Swansea, the takeover is off, we’re lining up a deal for Crystal palace reject Suore, we loose to city and no transfers are confirmed.

Anyone any objections to this being reality come Monday?

Cyprus – I think Ed is right on both counts. He’s absent for the most part and then when he does contribute it tends to be to meddle. There is no consistency.

”Talks were exhausting” The guy’s been on hols for the last 3 weeks probably staying in 7* luxury !!!

Ashley has proved over and over to be an odious pathological liar, so I know who I believe is to blame.

Catchy hasn’t fixed that problem yet, still talking out of his —-. How is it a hostile takeover when the club was put up for sale.

Oh well we can look forward to a McLaren / OGS level manager now and back to the good old champo.

We could have had the Mansours and now Stavely, but no, one man’s greed = R.I.P NUFC. This club is just cursed to b—ery !!

    Just remember in future when an ITK says ”it’s a done deal”’ . . . . . . . . .. .

When you think about it, this is typical Ashley, new TV deal in the offering, increase expected, Ashley pulls the plug on the takeover deal.

there is only 1 way to get at mike Ashley and that’s to buy shares in tacky direct, this would stop him from buying the company he started and by that if we all buy tacky direct shares that alone would drive him insane just like hes done to us the past 11 years, like the old saying mr Ashley what goes around comes around 🙂

And you know that how? It goes completely against the evidence, not just the formal sworn statements given by Ashley in court, but what has been said by several managers. Including Rafa. He has said several times that he didn’t have any contact with Ashley for months at a time. It’s quite possible he hasn’t met Ashley since early last summer, when Rafa’s contract was formally renewed.

Jim white on talksport deal is not off

It’s a stand off between pcp / Ashley

He said offer on table 250 mill

    Ashley wanted 350 Million

Thinks a deal will be done somewhere in between

    Pcp still want the club

Jib, so he buys the club for what a fair price, unless you believe that nonsense about overpaying due to a lack of due diligence, and in doing so he pays off its debts, and therefore is “entitled” to free advertising in lieu of interest for evermore. Is that the way you view it?

That initial investment has grown in value, substantially by his own assessment, and he’s already had ten years free advertising as it stands. I’ll need convincing as to the integrity of SD continuing to get it’s advertising at the clubs expense, beyond what it already has.

the only way to really to get Ashley is by buying shares in tacky dire rect, think of it this way, how would you feel if you have 61% of a company and you want to buy back the remainder of the shares to gain the company back lock stock and barrel but cant because Newcastle united fans have bought up shares in it that would drive Ashley crazy that a bit of a revenge job on him, theres another way do what rangers fans did to tacky direct shops

fair comments jib but I do have money and I will start buying shares in tacky direct, it was a suggestion If people had any spare money is to buy shares in his company which makes it very difficult in him buying over all majority in the company he wants back, the bloke has led the fans down the garden path for 11 years now and the only way I can find in which to get revenge on him is by buying shares in his company

Having spoken again to the guy this morning after last night’s news I still stand by what I said then. Whether PCP buy Toon or another club, they will. By the childishness of the language I think PCP will now walk as Ashley (or his son-in law more likely) has insulted the potential buyers. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they walk, and don’t forget they’ve put in a shed load of money with accountants and lawyers etc, so walking away means they’ll lose all of it, but will not do a deal with someone they obviously don’t trust.

they could do something else though micky, they could get someone else to do there bidding for them but there name isn’t mentioned like a broker and broker if you get what I mean or they could even do a takeover of tacky direct now that would really annoy the shit out of Ashley, think I am suffering from lets buy shares to piss him off

    Totally agree.
Mandy cant be that devastated or else she would have come back with a higher offer after her first one of £250m was rejected. She is not stupid and must of realised that a bid much lower than Ashley wanted would be rejected regardless of how much she valued the club at. So the obvious thing to do then would be to offer a increased bid to try and tempt Ashley, but it seems that only one bid has been made. Why?
Has PCP been genuinely interested in buying the club or has it all been a big PR exercise on their behalf? Who knows.
I really hope she puts her cards on the table if she is genuinely interested and makes a bid that is somewhere near what Ashley wants, only then will we know if PCP are really interested.
