Former Newcastle Director of Football Dennis Wise has become involved in the battle going on – what again – between Newcastle fans and Mike Ashley.
The fans want Ashley out of the club – we’ve had enough of his incompetence – and want him to sell as soon as possible.
And he must sell before he drives out one of the best-qualified managers we’ve had in the history out of the club – Rafa Benitez.
Dennis is saying Mike Ashley is prepared to spend money this January – and if that’s the case then how is it the 18th January and no money has been given to Rafa to spend?
Dennis Wise – former Director of Football at Newcastle
Wise remains close to Ashley and he has tried to defend the incompetent Newcastle owner.
This is what Wise has said in defense of Ashley on the Sky Sports’ – The Debate show.
“You’ve got a TV deal coming soon.”
“He could have done the deal now if the right deal came along and (the people who bought it) could have benefited from it further down the line.”
“Looking at that football club, where it is now, is a decent price to buy at roundabout £250million to £300M.”
“Looking at Mike’s point of view here, someone is telling you they have a buyer and they’re going to put in this or that.”
“I know how he works: ‘Put that in an escrow account, put it there, show me where you are and we can do a deal,’”
“He would do a deal, knowing him, where he would spread the costs if he felt it was a good deal for that football club.”
“He’s a businessman who makes decisions that always come off – well, not always, some have been mistakes and he does make some.”
“But his businesses thrive, they go forward.” “He’s not going to allow this to fall flat.” (it already has)
“He’s not going to sell it to someone who will not allow the football club to go forward.”
“He’s obviously taken it to where he thinks he can take it.”
It’s completely false to say that Ashley is doing the deal only if it would be good for the Newcastle United Football club.
That’s complete nonsense.
Ashley’s done nothing but take this club down ever since he bought Newcastle almost eleven years ago.
He’s selling Newcastle for his own selfish interests and wants the maximum profit he can get – that’s his motivation.
His ownership has been a complete disaster for our club for more than ten years now.
That’s the truth.

The council can’t touch the land at SJP it’s the Freeman of the city who own/govern the land.
The council has been trying to take the rights away from the Freeman since the 1700s and have gotten no where, kicked out of court every time.
The land was given to the Freeman by Adam of Jesmond and although it’s classed as common land it isn’t, the Freeman graze their cows and allow public access to it. That’s the town more SJP and other land.
I read a bit on them last night and as far as I can tell the land can’t be sold.
The student accommodation has pretty much run it’s course also, the council have been blocking further accommodation as there’s to much of it empty. I’m currently working on one and it was meant to be student accomdation they couldn’t get planning for that so now it’s “luxury accomdation”, side step.

Comment #11If Mike can’t compete with other clubs then that’s an admission.
1/ He is in the wrong business as the owner of a sporting institution.
2/ He is in the right business as the owner of a sports branded advertising vehicle.
This has a very remote chance of ending well for supporters of the club.

Comment #12That article in the Telegraph that somebody posted earlier – I particularly like this paragraph:
“This is a man who can appoint four hugely popular managers at St James’ Park, Kevin Keegan, Alan Shearer, Chris Hughton and Rafa Benitez and then make a series of decisions that provoke and alienate them; a man who gives Joe Kinnear a job, twice, who gives Benitez full control of player recruitment and then appoints people above him who question his transfer policy; a man who can promise every extra penny generated by promotion, but who is then outspent by Huddersfield Town; a man who says the club will not be sold until he wins a trophy or qualifies for the Champions League who, two years later, publicly puts it up for sale because he says it is impossible for a club like Newcastle to compete.”

Comment #16People blaming PCP for not meeting his asking price.
From NUFC.com
“The Newcastle United owner is in Dubai with chairman Derek Llambias, executive director Dennis Wise and head of recruitment Tony Jimenez, in an effort to secure a buyer.
But attempts to double his money with an asking price of £481m have been rejected. Yesterday there were allegations that Ashley snubbed a meeting with a Dubai consortium and caused offence by drinking in public during Ramadan”
So was that the Mansours fault for not meeting his asking price then???

People – this is the very essence of the blog, to discuss things NUFC, to suppose, theorise, predict, prophesy yeah whatever – it’s given us all sorts of stuff to mull over do what if the information was duff, we have yet to see how it all pans out. But give the itks a break if it wasn’t for them we’d still be batting with catchys crew about the failing manager and his world class team.

Comment #21@op Correct me if I’m wrong but the land could probably be sold with the agreement of both the Freemen and the City Council, the same way Freddie Shepherd says he obtained extra land for the Leazes End (“Sir Len Fenwick and the Freemen of the City really helped us get the extra land to be able to put the extension on the Leazes End.”) He then got extra planning permission from the council to develop St James’. It’s designated as an “Asset of Community Value” (by the NUST) meaning if it is put up for sale the NUST have to be told and have the option to buy it if the Freemen decide to sell it.
As I understand it the student accommodation (if you are referring to the properties across the road from the East Stand) are Grade 2 listed buildings and this prevents any further development.

Comment #22This morning I feel somewhat better about the fact that Staveley sounds as dodgy as Ash and it turns out her would be backers are nothing like a super rich sovereign Middle Eastern state and all these pathetic ITKs endlessly going on about Saudi princes and ”done deals” etc etc do indeed look very, very stupid now.
It doesn’t lessen my contempt for Ashley but Staveley has flunked her lines very badly here.
So the poison dwarf that is Wise, hasn’t heard SD and Debenhams have been on the slide for months and Ash lost 300M in Natwest futures or similar.

Comment #33Rotonda we are stuck with Ashley who again is not backing his manager in another transfer window, but your relieved the deal has fell through with Staveley? for me there is no way on earth she could be any worse an owner than Ashley even without the backing from mega millions in the middle east, the man has sucked the life out of the club the past 10 years

Then it’s denied within 2 hours by both The Reubens and PCP?

The interviewer had the perfect opportunity to bring up so many facts but only browsed over them. Even so, Wise was umming and aahhing and provided no deginitive proof to support his argument. It was an Ashley love in but I doubt anyone was really fooled
