Former investment banker Mehrdad Ghodoussi is Iranian-born and a PCP Capital Managing Partner; he has been married to Amanda Staveley since 2011.
There was a piece in the National in Dubai yesterday on the PCP Capital Partners bid and that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley last Tuesday ended the long drawn-out negotiations and also said they had been a waste of time and frustrating.
The National reports the PCP Capital Partners-led consortium remains a buyer of Newcastle until at least the summer unless Benitez leaves the club.
And they report that PCP’s CEO Amanda Staveley thinks Rafa Benitez is doing a phenomenal job with an under-strength Newcastle squad,
Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley –
at St. James’ Park in October
This is what Mehrdad Ghodoussi told The National in Dubai yesterday:
“If Benitez were to leave the club, either before or at the end of the season, then PCP would potentially walk away from the deal.”
“We would love to buy Newcastle. The fans are phenomenal, the club could be huge and a big success if run properly.” (Mike Ahsley please note)
“You need a world-class manager. If Rafa isn’t there at the end of the season we would have to rethink this transaction.”
The best chance we have of getting new owners in is for Newcastle to become safe in the Premier League as soon as possible.
Then there’s a chance that Amanda Staveley will raise her offer for the club and a deal can be agreed between the two parties.
That’s the hope and whether it will happen we really have no idea – Mike Ashley can be very stubborn.
But there’s a chance if it doesn’t happen then Rafa will walk this summer.
We don’t think he will if we are not relegated, but it could happen.
Comments welcome.

Comment #83Catchy It is just PR. Their attempt to try to get fans on their side. If they bought the club and Rafa started the season with five defeats he would be toast If Rafa walks and they have the money they would not think twice about getting another top manager. Rafa only costs £6m per year. It’s nearly costing the club that to have Mitro and Colback, but then not play them.

Comment #84“Rafa loved Liverpool and their fans, it didn’t stop him leaving because of the owners messing him about”
how did the owners mess him about? was it at about transfer funds?

Ashley, Lambias, Wise, Kinnear (who lives in Wise Lane – ironic eh?) and co are all drinking buddies in the Orange Tree Totteridge and the Rising Sun both pubs are near Ashley’s house.
Thick as thieves that lot.

Comment #91davetoon re. “Newcastle’s net profit is £30,370,000 across the past 10 January transfer windows
The club’s expenditure is £64,490,000, while the income is £94,860,000 over the last 10 January transfer windows.”
That income includes Carroll who cost nothing, but was sold in a January window for £35m. Excluding that deal, the net profit is MINUS £5m.
Demba Ba came on a free in a summer, but was sold in a January for £7m. Cabaye came in a summer for a relatively small fee, but sold in a January for about £20m.
So their sales alone amount to a net profit of over £20m. But Cisse And Sissoko came in a January but sold in a summer. So to a certain extent It’s swings and roundabouts, except for the Carroll deal.

Comment #94A few have mentioned they are concerned that Staveley and Co. are interested in Newcastle as an investment, maybe even to make money off it. While we all have that dream in our mind of being the next Man City, in reality we can be run as a profitable business and still be a competitive team.
Ashley has cut off all realistic revenue stream to this club with ads, naming rights, merch, etc. If we even ran those streams poorly we’d still have far more money to use on transfers and wages. Instead we have NOTHING thanks to Ashley’s greed and only being able to see to the end of his own nose. The amount of money he has prevented this team from making is just pitiful.
Also you have to think if you want to run a business where you buy low and sell high, you have to realize that investment is still required. You can’t fill a team full of cheap players and expect them to be sold for astronomic fees. If you occasionally buy a quality player he will make the other players around him not only look better but also appear more expensive. With a few talisman players kicking it around you suddenly highlight those cheap players and make their sell on fee higher as a result.

Comment #95Don’t trust Ashley but certainly don’t trust PCP either. It seems their bid was low. Points about keeping Rafa as manager mean nothing – very few people would not want Rafa as manager and is anyone in the current regime thinking of getting rid of him – I don’t think so.
There’s a lot of PR in what PCP are saying and it seems to me they were looking for a bargain and hoping that the current situation they would get a bargain as clearly Ashley is keen to let go.
Unfortunately we may have to wait longer for the right investor…and I doubt it is PCP.

Comment #96Interesting point about Rafa being specifically included in the bids.
Very surprised about this on the basis he could get knocked down by a bus or other horrible catastrophy next week could occur.
What would happen then?
To have him named obviously suggests some contact/form of discussion between him and PCP – to get his agreement to be named. So he probably knows a lot more than is being revealed so far.
I would obviously want him to stay regardless – but it’s all very intriguing

One of the main complaints about Ashley
is his constantly doing things on the cheap.
I don’t think Amanda’s character is too different

Comment #107Don’t know why people have a problem with being run as a business for profit. Beats being run like a sadist’s leathery sex slave, constantly getting whipped and beaten for the owners pleasure. Not all of the top teams are owned by countries. Look at Tottenham and arsenal for what can be achieved when a club is left to use all points of revenue and build a global brand. The owners profit from an expanding business, not by stuffing their fat hands in the cookie jar and leaving crumbs for everyone else

Comment #109@Jane: the issue isn’t whether he could, or would, the issue is what he’d do when we got there. We’d probably build a strong team, win the league, and then sell the lot to replace them with young unproven players.
So yeah, we’d be happy, but history has been repeating in Newcastle itself for the last decade.

Comment #111I do wish PCP would up the bid and just get this sorted, but for those complaining about them and concerned that not bidding more, remember they have done due diligence and know so much more than us about the state and value of the club. If they think it’s 250 million they know their stuff, just hope see fit to bid more and sort it and hope worth their while to pay the extra

Comment #112It will be interesting to see how Brighton’s new signing – Locadia – manages in the EPL. He has spent his entire career at PSV and therefore never played outside of the Dutch league. I we all know from recent experience that Dutch players are not what they used to be and that the physicality of the EPL can be too much for them.
Does anyone on here know much or have an opinion about him? It was a bit off the radar for me.
Either way…would just love to have £14m available to spend on a striker !

I would hardly call purchasing a Championship squad needing 200 Mil in new signings to hold their own in the prem, that have a high risk of relegation that could reduce their valuation to less than a 100 mil a bargain.
