Surprise Team Selection – Manquillo Comes In for Yedlin – Ritchie And Perez Dropped

Rafa Benitez has named the side to start against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon in the late kick-off game.

Here’s the side that Rafa announced:

Matt Ritchie – dropped for today’s game

Rafa has left out Matt Ritchie, Ayoze Perez and Mikel Merino as well as Yedlin for today’s game.

Newcastle are expected to try to defend well and frustrate City and if we can play as well as we did in the 1-0 defeat at home in late December we may be able to take a point.

This is what Rafa has said about the game today:

“In away games, we have been quite compact and solid so hopefully we can maintain this level against Man City.

“We have to do everything right and they have to make mistakes.”

Most fans are expecting Newcastle to lose this afternoon.

I thought Benitez would go 5 at back. I guess it is possible (although unlikely) that Hayden is playing as part of 3 CBs with Diame in CM.

Ancient – “Oh yes, the prospect of Amazon and Google getting involved could make PL clubs worth trillions & gazillions, *derp.*

How about Premier League streaming season tickets. hur hur hur.

Come on, Amanda, throw another 50 million at it… and whilst you are at it, throw in another 25 million bonus if the club stays up.

Where did people come up with this tripe?”

For someone who recently baulked at me using a patronising tone that’s a corker. Ironically it’s even more of one as this is also directed at me.

As someone reminded me earlier my thoughts on the future of TV rights and the steady march of online content diversity is hardly original, if you Google it you’ll find those things you ridicule in guffawing imbecile fashion being mooted all over the place.

Btw I don’t advocate Staveley or anyone else should just throw money at Ashley. But it’s realistic to point out that if they don’t offer the always-rising going rate they won’t get anything never mind NUFC.

I dont like this keep it tight type of football that Rafa and pardew play, i see no point in trying to defend a clean sheet and try and snatch something in the last 15 mins.

I would rather go for it early on, show dominance, try and score as many as you can.

and i know it is not a great idea against Man C, but our tactics are the same no matter who we play.

surrendering possession only encourages the other team, and in the prem most teams have good players

What the hell has happened to Merino? Rafa had him in the bench last game and only came on for 10 min and he has started a game for a while now.

    silly question

If this bid is not going to happen until the summer, would Ashley be in the right to ask for more money for the club, esp if we stay in the prem? after all, PCP are trying to buy a newly promoted team right now,

I watched the first half of the Man Utd game. Alexis Sanchez could only be interested in money if he is moving to Man Utd. They play some poor football imo, but get by with individuals digging them out of trouble. Simeone is moving on in the summer, it could be to Man Utd judging by their standard of football.

Belfast, I didn’t hear about Mourinho being close to being offered a new contract. I suppose Man Utd want to create some stability after the ins/outs after Ferguson. Mourinho seems like he has money to spend, so that should keep him relatively happy. The old three year itch may kick in though.
