Some Good Performances From Our Players Yesterday – Who Was The Best?

We didn’t expect to get anything out of the game yesterday at the Etihad Stadium, although some of us were still hoping for a miracle, and we should get too down that we lost.

That was our 13th loss of the season, and we have 23 points from 24 games, but from now on there should be time for Rafa to prepare the team for most of the remaining games of the season.

Out goal difference is -12 and currently better than all but one (Southampton -11) of the teams in the bottom eight, so that could yet save us.

Newcastle are only 3 points out of 10th place – Watford – so it is very “compact” in the bottom half – as Rafa would say.

That gives us hope too.

Jacob Murphy scores with beautiful chip over the goalkeeper

The home games will be crucial, and our players must not be daunted by playing at St. James Park – they have to get rid of any anxiety they may have and play at or near their best.

The crowd only want them to do well, and yesterday the away crowd of 3,000 at the Etihad Stadium did Newcastle really proud – they were magnificent – the best fans in football.

Here’s the position we are in the league table (still 15th) and let us know who you think was our best player yesterday.

We should survive with the players we have but to ensure our PL status we need a much better striker.

That huge waste of money Murphy for me, if Rafa wasn’t so crap he could have persuaded Lucas Perez to come and play for 40K a week for the same price,

    Catchy,
250M with no clauses or 350M with clauses is derogatory. Given the fact we have a championship team, are in a very real relegation battle and that Villa sold last year for 80M pounds, how much do you think PCP should have stumped up.

As I said in an earlier post 100 million is what we are worth.
Fatboy does not value the club so why should someone else.

    *******************************

My thought for the day. How much is NUFC really worth.
If Villa were bought for 75 million our value is 100 million.

We have a Championship squad in the Premier League. Our Prem status is very much under threat.
We know what difference a year can make. Summer 2016 to summer 2017 demonstrates that. There could be a hell of a difference in 4 months. Three from Wolves, Derby, Cardiff, Villa, Bristol City, Sheff U or Fulham will be in the Premier League.

Remember the owner is the person with responsibility to sort out a club.
Needs to sell up or invest. Won’t stick and won’t twist.

    Jib from a previous posting.

I would also add Joselu as to why he starts ahead of Perez.

Perez is a far greater threat to an opposition defence as he is quicker and more direct with a poachers eye for goal. He can also control the ball better than Joselu.

Why didn’t Perez square the ball when my MOM Diame went charging through,oh hang on it was joselu standing unmarked 🙂

100% with you there. Hail wor Ashley once was so busy typing how crap we were he missed an equaliser and continued to slate the player who scored it.

A couple of decent signings to give us a confidence boost as much as a quality boost and I think we would scrape survival.

We have a completely committed team with some good players, just very little balance at times. If Rafa can find a way to take the shackles off against teams around us at home, we’d already be safe. We seem to be able to do it when under pressure away from home just never at home.

We know we can’t control games and score. We can only play on the counter. We should find a way to lure teams into playing high against us at home and then spring on them. If fans can stop themselves from getting frustrated if we don’t have 80 percent possession and create clear chances, and understand it’s a game plan that suits, that added pressure wouldn’t sabotage us so badly.

And nobody seems to be prepared to pay what our greedy barsteward of an owner thinks it’s worth.

Yesterday could quite easily have been 2-2. Sterling was not a pen. If Gayle had timed his leap he’d have scored. However good attempt from the lads. Aguero is outstanding he’ll do the same to other teams

Perez can be invisible up front sometimes however if you are going to play him it’s best with rather than instead of Perez.

I think Diame is adding a bit if bite to his game so I’d keep him now.

TOON did OK yesterday – penalty soft – bet ref would not of given it if it was at the other end.

Diame I thought was immense yesterday and Dummett had a very good game – well-taken goal by Murphy. Darlow also had a good game kept us in it second half

Atsu and Joselu were poor Shelvey average needs to up his game.

Would anyone take a punt on Murphy’s twin Josh – looked good midweek against Chelsea – plenty of pace and trickery.
Like to see a Murphy on each wing

If we get Sandro on loan from Everton we need another as he is totally unproven. The lad could be a huge player so hope Loan has option to buy. I would take him and anyone from Slimani, Ulloa, Deeney, Ings,Sturridge, ilhenacho, gabbiadini.

Tony Xia paid for Aston Villa’s first year
    operating costs after takeover.
So in real terms he paid £136 million for AV

Randy Lerner had paid £63m for the club in 2006
He valued it at £200m in 2014 when it first was offered for sale
He sold it for the reduced figure when they were relegated
That might happen to us yet.

Bianconeri. I comment during game coz I can. It’s not so intense that I can’t post a sentence. People saying it could have been 2-2 kidding themselves. It could have been 10- 1 just as easily. Think we saved our goal difference taking a hiding. Dummett Lascelles Darlow in fact most made a great contribution.

    was at the game yesterday,
I don’t get to many away days now but have to say i actually enjoyed the experience.
although we might be on the verge of championship football our away fans are definitely champions league winners 110% from start to finish MoM for me then Murphy i’m sure city will have taken notice of that performance
even the city fans around me were commenting on the sustained support they showed for the team and Rafa even at 3-1 down all you could hear were the GEORDIES so proud to have been one of them

on the pitch city are light years ahead of us even their bence was full of quality ……….just remember that should have been us but for Ashleys greed

I was there too Hibbet, got back from the game at 1:20 this morning as there were no direct trains to Newcastle from mancland, change of trains at Sheffield then again at York after waiting 50 mins at Sheffield…..it was a nightmare, would I change the day….absolutely not…the atmosphere in the concourse, during the game and at the train stations and in the trains was fantastic, the lads on the pitch (while outclassed) worked their butts off, penalty was very soft but when you have multi 50m+ players on the pitch the ref is inclined to lean towards them when making decisions.
All in all a very good day, could have been better with a point or3 but it didn’t take away from the day.
