There has been some upbeat news today about Newcastle being able to bring 21-year-old Brazilian left-sided player Kenedy to Newcastle on loan this month.
Chelsea are very close to signing left-back Emerson Palmieri from Roma – a player who we have been linked with him the last month or so, but Palmieri is too expensive for us.
What’s new?
The news is that once the Palmieri deal is signed, then Kenedy will be allowed to join Newcastle on loan and that would be one of Rafa’s players he wants in this month and would provide some momentum to Newcastle in this transfer window.
This is what Keith Downie has only just tweeted:
Left-back Emerson Palmieri close to joining Chelsea from Roma. That will push through Kenedy’s loan to Newcastle.

Kenedy – a talented 21-year-old left-sided player
Rafa has wanted Kennedy since last summer, and from what we’ve seen of him the Brazilian youngster has some real class which we can use for the rest of the season.
He has also played for Chelsea in the Premier League in early 2016 some six months after he joined the club: he’s played 27 times with 3 goals for the Chelsea first team
We can see Kenedy playing on the left wing for Newcastle although he can also play at left-back and he seems to be an excellent young player.
It wouldn’t surprise us too much, if the lad does come on loan to us and plays well, that Rafa will try to get him to Newcastle permanently in the summer.
But it’s doubtful that Newcastle can get an option to buy in his loan deal.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Understand their priority is a striker, and preferably a permanent signing – not a loan.

Don’t think it’s because of takeover, thinks it’s mainly due to season ticket renewal deadline coming up. Always get rumours this time of year only to be left disappointed.

Comment #5I don’t know if this record signing striker rumour has legs or not, but twitter has gone mad with rumours, too many to mention. Strangely Bas Dost seems to be the leading candidate from the rumours. Can’t see it myself.

He is decent but in my view he is not a left back, never has been. Where do you see kenedy playing should he arrive?

Comment #12@RA @10. Fair enough. Was wondering why we would look at him. Last I heard Villa let him go, he failed a medical at Nantes, then one for the unwashed down the road, and as far as I am aware he disappeared into obscurity after finding out he had some heart condition. Another wasted talent who believed he was better than he was, and stifled his own development.

Comment #16Bet anyone we don’t break our transfer record ? It’s laughable to suggest why Ashley would when club is up for sale
What player would come here instead of any other premier league club
A club going nowhere and in limbo with 0 ambition
Literally no chance of us spending more than 6/7 Million

The cat and mouse situation regarding the sale of our club obviously now incorporates the cost of any new signings should Ashley shell out some of his hard earned to strengthen the squad?
Would fatty allow the club to spend money without adding it on to the cost for any buyer?
Would Amanda be prepared to accept paying for new recruits should she come back in with a new offer?
Would Amanda be satisfied that Rafa’s choice of new players would be the same if she had already bought the club?
Is Amanda waiting until after the transfer window before pushing the deal through knowing full well that Ashley has no option other than allow Rafa to spend to stay up?
Is Rafa complicit with Amanda’s strategy?
Is the reason Ashley got the hump because he was hoping to have sold up before having to shell out?

Comment #18Its a joke kenedy is no world beater yet this deal is being played out like the big breaking news after months of talks “wow kenedy” I suppose what can we expect when we are knocking around other clubs with our beggers cup. Cheers Mike Ashley

Yeah another player in a long list of others with unfulfilled talent. Don’t think they’re too bothered being multi millionaires now. Think that’s where the problem lies.

Comment #20Ashley has been reducing costs / putting as little investment into the club over the last few windows – so he could sell the club

Comment #21Kenedy is a cracking player , huge talent
However it’s a loan (won’t be option to buy)
And is he a relegation fight sort of player ?
The only way we stay up is if we fight for every point and with the team we have that’s all we can hope for (as I think our team do have the fight in them)

Comment #23Kenedy will provide competition for Atsu. Atsu has been very inconsistent this season. When Atsu is on form, I not sure for now if kenedy is really better than Atsu. Not sure if kenedy will immediately strengthen any position from our current team.
Good signing for competition, but provided we sign a striker which is the top top priority..

Comment #25So we’re getting a player that none of us can seem to figure out what his best position is. Sounds like a Pardew era signing… just bring them in without knowing where to fit them in.
Kenedy hasn’t impressed me for Chelsea, surrounded by world beating players and he isn’t a goal machine himself so this isn’t the priority. Hopefully a striker is right around the corner.

Comment #26I suspect Kennedy would be signed for a wing back / overlapping full back position to inject another bit of pace from the back. Just my feeling. If he offers competition to Atsu, then it can’t be a bad thing I suppose.

However …
I think the buyers are in place (pcp)
But Ashley Keeps moving goalposts so he can squeeze every last penny from the deal
Hence we are now waiting until tv deal
I think he would settle for 300 Million now
320 Million in March
No clauses
If tv deal is decent , he won’t stay in the summer as he will need to buy 6 or 7 players to stay up on inflated prices as everyone will have extra money (that they use in advance)
Ashley does work like that / wouldn’t spend anyway
Plus Rafa will be away under Ashley

Comment #28I personally saw kenedy as a #10, like he was back in Brazil. It’s his natural position and was able to play on the wings. Since we keep being linked with left backs, I’m now thinking he will be brought in as a wingback/winger since Rafa has shown a tendency to play wing backs a few times this season.

Comment #30This is the only transfer window i have thought ….. you know what I am not going to be fooled again
Every other window I keep checking all media outlets / blogs /twitter and even stay up on deadline day clinging onto the hope we sign someone decent
Every year it’s the same under whelmed feeling of nothingness
This year I feel the opposite, expecting nothing but a few loans
