Breakthrough – It’s Great To Welcome Kenedy To Newcastle

Newcastle United have announced the first signing of the January transfer window (it’s now January 23rd – but better late than never), and it’s the arrival of Chelsea player Kenedy on loan for the rest of the season.

Kenedy joined Chelsea back in 2015 from Fluminense, and the left-sided player has played 27 times for Chelsea with 3 goals and Rafa has been after him since last summer.

Kenedy – at the Benton Training grounds today

This is what the 21-year-old has said about signing on at Newcastle:

“I’m so happy with this opportunity at Newcastle. They’ve opened the door to me to come here, show my potential and come and play for Newcastle.”

“It’s a traditional club and Rafa Benítez is a fantastic, amazing coach.”

“Christian Atsu, as well – we trained together at Chelsea and know each other, and he said good things about the club.”

“So it was easy to take this decision.”

Rafa Benitez had this to say about the loan acquisition of the Brazilian:

“Kenedy is a player that we have been following since the summer.”

“The reason we are interested is that he can play in several positions – as a winger, a wing-back and also as an offensive left full-back, so he gives the team many options.”

“He has a great left foot and good energy. He is still a young player but he has some experience already in the Premier League and that will help with his adaptation.”

“We welcome him to Newcastle United.”

It’s great to be able to welcome Kenedy to Newcastle – and he now has over a week to prepare for the game at home to Burnley when he is likely to make his debut.

He is cup-tied and cannot play against Chelsea on Sunday.

Comments welcome.

Funki – usually I go along with the old imitation is the sincerest etc but for all that’s great and noble in this world get some decent material. 🙂 You sound too much like Belfast combined with jib.

Well done Christian Atsu for the recommendation and encouragement for this lad to join us. Rafa uses the word energy and it feels like the team just moved up a gear. Add a pacy midfielder, attacking striker and quick distribution from a new keeper and it will feel like we’re up to speed.

I think the reason people say “Championship squad” is they were bought to win/play in the championship.

Few were signed to play in the premier.

anyone concerned that according to sky he couldnt get into the watford team that used 33 players last year?

can someone explain the potential shelvy move? Im hoping the answer is its fake news

    1. why to west ham who are in a dogfight to stay up
    2. how is only worth 12M, even with the disciplinary issues, hes got to be worth 15-20
    3. How can we sell w/out a replacement?

Like I say it’s debatable, our missed chances is probably our downfall, something a top striker would eradicate (hopefully)!!!! We all know there’s two leagues within the premier league and breaking into the top one will cost .
Great news Kenedy is in Toon!!

I seen a cracker from ilovetoon earlier. Something along the lines of – because kenedy had scored and assisted loads playing in a certain position on his fm17, yes, A GAME. Rafa has better play him their too lol.

    Unbelievable.

Good to see that Kenedy has joined us.
He should provide plenty of quality crosses for Torres to finish off.(Oops, is that the cat out of the bag?)

oh enlightened one, thank you for your kind words.

of course that’s your opinion and like any manager at any club, fans will never understand the complexities of what it takes or why some things are done, things go on behind doors that should stay behind closed doors.

But that also does not mean you know more than me or i know more than you, all i can do is give MY prospective from how i see things.

you mention the great SBR, well IMO SBR would run circles around in every area of football management, from training to man manegment to tactics.

people keep bringing up our championship squad, it’s not, it’s just an excuse to absolve Rafa from criticism, when he gets a game like the west ham game he is put on on a pedestal as a world class coach, but get beat 4-0 at home by watford then it’s the players are not good enough, the beginning of the season was a genius for how he set us up, for all the clean sheets, but when it goes wrong, players are hung out to dry.

our players are by no means world beaters, but it appears to me we have different rules for when we by a player, Kennedy is just the latest example of these rules, by every rule by all the Rafa clappers no one should be happy with him coming to us, he is not a GK or CF he has very little premiership experience and he is coming on loan.

now that’s not me criticising him, i want to see him play for us and where he fits in, but this signing has no logic at this moment.

i don’t understand people saying rafa got no money to spend in the summer, what they tell you is rafa was forced to by the likes of joselu who came from a premiership team to us.

Rafa against swansea put all of his summer signings on the bench, Atsu was from the season before, and Legune injured, so how can anyone complain about lack of first team signings when he does this .

it defies all common sense and logic

The mystery player, is Diafro sakho I think.

And I hope rafa plays kenedy as an inside forward on the right side if midfield. That’s his best position. He scored 14 goals and 10 assists in my Fm17 save.

I hope rafa realises the threat kenedy may pose coming in from the right side

From the small amount I’ve seen of him he seems a decent player. Hopefully he can offer a spark which might be the difference between a draw and a win in a few games which could be crucial come the end of the season.

    Good luck to the lad.

Thank you for your response and your opinion is as valid as any one elses.

What is the lowest position in the league that you would be happy with?

West Ham are 11th, three draws ahead of us and managed by Moyes?

Everton are 9th, a win and two draws ahead, managed by Allardyce?

With a little more luck, taking our goal scoring chances, we could be a little higher.

Burnley (8th) used to get slated for being too defensive but Dyche has stuck at it, developed his Championship winning (x2) team and added to the squad when he could. They are still a workman like team that try to keep a solid shape and counter attack. In some games we have actually been more expansive playing a 4231 system.

Leicester (7th) won the league and qualified for the CL and like all the clubs above have much bigger budgets to buy players than us, with which rather than getting an occassional win like ourselves only suffer an occassional loss. Plus their managers are still greatly criticised.

I think you are perhaps too focused on there being only one answer to your dissatisfaction and like in life, you have to look at things holistically and sometimes just say “It’ll do for the time being”. Enjoy. Make peace with yourself and others. But hey, we all like a good grumble!

    That’s Rafa told then.

Before he’s even kicked a ball for us we’ve got FM enthusiasts telling our UEFA elite manager where he should be played because he was boss on a manager game.

Fcuk me, that’s one of the worst things I’ve seen on here and that’s saying something.

So in the Swansea game were in the first half we made enough chances to win three games we drew because all our summer signings were on the bench….

Nothing to do with having 5hite towards who couldn’t hit a barn door with a double barrel shotgun!

Look outside the top 6 and the quality is pretty poor.

Everton have spent the best part of 150 million to be 5 points better off than us. The teams from 9th to 20th are separated by 8 points.

All teams are in a position where one key signing, a couple of smarter decisions by the manager, a big injury, etc. can determine if you make top 10 or are relegated.

    OP

That’s the story of our season, lacking a quality finisher.

I really can’t understand why we didn’t buy one. The 5mil for Joselu and the 15mil for Murphy should have gone on a 20mil forward.

It should surely have been obvious to Ashley as well. The only reasonable seasons we had under him was when we had players like Ba, Cisse and Remy in goal scoring form.
