He’s a player Rafa has wanted at Newcastle on loan since last summer but it seems that 21 year-old Kenedy is highly regarded at the London club and there will be no “option to buy” him in the loan contract.
But if he plays well and creates a bond with the Newcastle fans maybe he will want to join Newcastle later in his career – maybe even in the summer?
We expect him to be surprised at the welcome he will get from Newcastle fans – he’s young but looks a very good technical player who we are hoping Rafa will get the best out of him in the remaining games of the season.
Kenedy – arriving at the Benton Training grounds today
With kenedy set tonsign on loan, I’m thinking a attacking 3 of kenedy, Atsu and Murphy behind whoever this mystery striker is #NUFC

Say if by the end of the transfer window we had two new additions in the form of Kenedy and a mysterious striker. Would you be happy? I don’t think I would. Fair enough, This squad works hard for each other but need more class injected into it. Massive few days for #NUFC
— Liam Smith (@liamsmith85) January 23, 2018
Mental how many people fall for the shit that comes out of #NUFC every January due to it being season ticket renewal month. I will be absolutely amazed if we spend anywhere near 20 million on a player. Loans like Kennedy is the only business happening.
— Jonathan Snaith (@Jonny_Snaith) January 23, 2018
With Kenedy all but signed, #nufc will now try to capture Le Havre’s Oswald
— Thomas Jones (@tomj191) January 23, 2018
I agree with James – think Dummett will stay as left back and Kenedy on the left wing – he looked great there for Chelsea last time out.
Everyone seems to think Kenedy’s coming in as left back cover, but I’ve got a feeling he’ll play him further forward. He didn’t trust Lazaar at full back last year ????? #NUFC

Kennedy medical today at #NUFC – does that mean Shelvey deal a step closer? @ExWHUemployee
— Bradley Fisher (@b_fisher88) January 23, 2018
Nothing against Kennedy personally, who for the sake of my beloved #NUFC hope is a success, but Mike Ashley has battered hope so much at the Toon a loan signing from Chelsea is being spruiked as a cause for celebration by some. #ashleyout
— Neil Walker (@MediaMook) January 23, 2018
Kennedy is up in Tyneside having arrived last night. Deal is likely to be completed today, given the medical goes smoothly.
Talk of #nufc breaking their transfer record on a striker. Rumours Kevin Gamerio from Athletico Madrid could be the man. Interesting stuff today.#nufc
— NUFC Update (@NUFC_Update) January 23, 2018
Kennedy, Gameiro and Schurrle! I’ll take those 3! #NUFC
— Andy Stamp (@AndyStamp2) January 22, 2018
Can see #nufc going 3 at the back, Dummett going inside, Kennedy and yedlin wing backs
— Pete Bravey (@Thebravedog) January 22, 2018
There’s a lot of worth in bringing players on like Kennedy. Firstly they have a desire to not only play but to learn. That desire often sees them push far more which can only be beneficial. As well as this he adds squad depth and aids Rafa moving forward #nufc
— Lee (@lee_wilson1) January 22, 2018
Excited about Kennedy!
Need to spend at least another 35/40 million on a striker and GK or it’s not good enough #NUFC

Totally agree. A goal scorer makes a big difference. A player on 10 goals now could be an extra 6 points and a fair few places up the table.

I believe that even without any additional players we should avoid relegation, purely through the tactics Rafa plays. However, if the manager is not happy the team will not play as well as it possibly can.

Comment #92What i will say IF we had a prolific striker knocking in the goals we would definitely have our players down as a better squad as we’d accumulated a decent amount of points by now . Same problem since Ba left.

I disagree on the championship squad mate, if that is the case then half of the league has championship squads. We bought Gayle from the PL, Ritchie from PL, whilst in championship. Diame spent a chunk of time in both leagues and was going back to PL before he signed for us.
It’s a pointless argument as we currently have 2 PL players who aren’t selected for whatever reason and both are internationals.
The squad won the championship so it’s clearly too good for the championship, I think the squad is a lower PL squad as it’s showing.
On Kenedy I’m excited to see him play, he can be a hot head though and tough to control, I hope he’s used higher up the pitch and not at LB. Btw dummett has looked really good on his return!!

sensible, balanced posts about Rafa there. Careful, this might not be the blog for you!
I think most fans, even those who get accused here as being Rafa-bashers or Rafa-clappers, lie somewhere in the middle. Nobody but a fool would claim Rafa is infallible, just as only a fool would claim him to be useless. I find the accusation on both sides to be incredibly tedious, and obstructive to reasonable debate.
Magscar, who I often disagree with on football matters, made an excellent point recently about the polarisation of opinion online. To the person with the opposing view, you are accused of being 100% pro or 100% anti any given position.
Most folk don’t mind in the slightest if someone has an opposing opinion, but do expect that they have an argument to back up that opinion.
Many posters on this blog fail in this regard, simply shouting their opinion loudly and repeatedly, and this in my view is the cause of so much of the friction here.
For what it’s worth, I am very much in favour of Rafa, and consider him to be, by a long way, the best manager we could wish for under Ashley.
But if we were a team like we were in KK or SBR’s pomp, I would want someone with a more entertaining and attacking philosophy. I never particularly enjoyed Rafa’s approach to football with his previous clubs.
I don’t consider him to be the best, or most exciting manager in football, but I do consider him the best thing to happen to us under Mike Ashley. I understand folks’ issues with him, but it infuriates me when they ignore the context of what he’s dealing with here.

Very debatable I know we have some players above championship level, but on the whole just.
I suppose we have a decent chance with the lower clubs in this league. Hardly satisfactory. I honestly think we’re not strong enough without new faces for this league. One point above the relegation zone proves so.
