Things Getting A Little Uncomfortable For Newcastle

In the last two days, two teams below us in the league table have gained points on Newcastle.

Southampton picked up a point by drawing 1-1 at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and last night Swansea recorded a rare home (1-0) victory over Liverpool.

But you couldn’t say the Reds were at their best last night, but nevertheless, it was a great win for the Swans.

So in the last round of games, after we lost 3-1 at Manchester City, Newcastle dropped one point to Southampton, West Ham, Bournemouth and West Brom.

Rafa Benitez – his skill and experience can help save us this season

And we have dropped 3 points to Swansea and Stoke, with the Potters having an excellent 2-0 win at home to Huddersfield on Saturday.

There are just 6 points separating bottom club Swansea from 10th placed Watford.

Newcastle are a point above the relegation zone, and 3 points from 10th place – so it’s all very compact in the bottom half of the league table at the moment.

Any three of 11 clubs could be relegated this season.

Let’s hope one of them is not Newcastle United.

What’s people’s opinion on us loaning Kenedy when you look at the bigger picture?

…is he what we need and does he have the right level and mentality?

    I am naturally sceptical here!

It’s no secret we need to change the way we play football…regardless of how this window unfolds!

Jesper, no need to look at the bigger picture really? Unlikely he will sign for us permanently.
He gets a couple of games, if he shows up then great. If he doesn’t then he sits on the bench and it’s not our problem.

Jesper from a few threads back

Kennedy seems a very strange deal

Not so much in terms of the type of player he is, young pacy in the fringes of Chelsea but strange in the sense that it had taken nearly 3 full transfer windows to sign him on a six month loan deal, you’d really hope there’s an option to buy but doesn’t seem to be

In regards to where he plays anyone’s guess, someone suggested he’d sit in the 10 role, not sure what that’s based on
Seemingly was a winger but has been turned into a LWB so I’d imagine Chelsea want him getting minutes there

In regards to how we play aye it needs to change but money needs spending in order for that to happen, unfortunately under Fat Mike…

Rotonda have eagle eye in spotting guff speakers and unpleasant individuals ha ha
I like it.Don’t know why he persist with Catchy though. There are worse individuals than him in the place.

On strikers, while I accept any forward at this moment,I will take Carasco than Gameiro if there is a plan to pay 20m or so.Think Gameiro past his best & is in his 30s.

I do think the incoming of Kennedy at left sided position (leftback/wingback/left mid) will make Rafa thinker the playing formation further… Maybe start playing a proper 3-5-2 formation? or even 5-4-1? With Dummett, Lascalles, Lejueuneas the 3 central defences.. Yedlin and Kennedy can roam freely at the both flanks as wingbacks.. With current form, Diame should be in that 3 middle of the park, playing with either Shelvey, Merino (not 100% fit), Hayden or even Atsu or Ritchie (if 4 in midfield) … A new forward as the lone striker (5-4-1) or a pairing of 2 forward players (3-5-2 )

Kennedy signing is ok but wont pull up any trees. He will be used as a winger in my opinion and back up to dummett at LB. No chance Rafa will drop Dummett for Kennedy and people who are talking about wing back with 3 at the back need to get back to Fifa.

Ourtoon you say we are the 15th best squad in the league so we are performing on par with what we have. Tell me please who the teams you consider worse are? Brighton and Huddersfield are the only two teams you could possibly think are worse. Brighton pushed us to 1 point of the champ table and invested better in my opinion (Rafa clearly felt we had more coming in then had to scramble last minute with the likes of manquillo and joselu). Huddersfield have significantly strengthened and looking through their side I would say they have better quality but yes it is debatable. All other sides have a stronger more experienced premiership squad.

All #nufc fans want to know the identity of this striker target, but it’s a sensitive situation. Told the fee is 20m, but club determined to keep it quiet till it’s done, to avoid added competition. M/W awaiting Kenedy announcement. Straight loan.

Love it if Kevin Gameiro comes in, but he has a huge buy-out clause.. 60 mil Euros if I was not mistaken .. Surely Atletico Madrid will not sell him cheaply as they bought him form more than 30mil Euro in 2016 ..

Could only see it being a loan and tbh he’s been poor for WHU but could work under Rafa, certainly seemed to want him in the summer

Jesper……. I think Kennedy will add a bit of much needed flair and skill to an otherwise workmanlike team . With regards to changing our style of play I think Rafa is by nature a cautious manager who would obviously prefer more pacey direct players in the squad but will never be Gung Ho in his approach.

As for a Striker then we need someone with physical attributes which why I don’t think we are in for Gamerio. iheanacho would be interesting along with Slimani.

20m striker on the way. 20m will probably get you diafro sakho on this market and I think its him. Sakho will be a great signing. Better than joselu for sure and that’s enough.

My bet for the new striker will be either Vincent Aboubakar (Porto) or Islam Slimani (Leicester City has to take the 9mil pound lost if he is sold for 20mil pound though)

I hope it’s a good striker. We are really up against it. If it was troy deeney I’d still want a pacey striker on loan as if we are going to play on the break we’d still need one.

Personally can’t see anyone from say 8th down selling to us, certainly not their better players anyway, especially with the table so tight
And especially not for a price of £20 mil which is a fairly average fee nowadays

with the great respect, you cannot say you try to beat me with facts then say if Rafa plays kennedy at 10. that’s just pure fantasy. what happens if Kennedy plays in his normal position Lb/LWB, how is it a good signing, it still will not address the striker problem.
If he wanted a n10 he could play Merino or jonjo there

Catchy, I never said I tried to beat anybody with facts. Merely my opinion vs yours.

Kenedy signed for Chelsea as a ST who can also play LW. I’ve watched him play and can see how he would fit into the Nr10 role.

And actually if you read my comment I said I AGREE that if Rafa plays him LW or LB then it is a questionable signing as we have cover there.

Merino and Jonjo both better playing deeper.

    Munster,
You claim to offer fair balanced criticism of the manager. What is your agenda. This morning you are criticising him for scenarios that haven’t even happened. a: We haven’t bought his wish list yet and b: he hasn’t failed to keep us up this season.
In general people don’t like to be proved wrong especially those that consider themselves smarter than others. You are willing him to fail and have been since he got here so you can come on here to gloat how smart you really are. Pathetic.
